I want that play to go down in history as the beginning of the end of Alabama's dynasty. That was absolutely incredible. I'm going to have to watch a full game replay sometime soon, because I was watching our game through most of it.

I feel extremely concerned for BAMAs kicker, I don't think fans are going to take his performance tonight too well. Not all of the missed kicks were his fault, but I don't think the typical BAMA will care. He's going to be hearing crap for the rest of his life.

Wonder how Griffith felt after that hit? What a play.... too bad I missed it, but wouldnt trade seeing that live on TV over being at the inauguration of VT into the #decadeofdominance

Did anyone else notice #79 running in to cheap shot the Auburn player at the end of the return? WHAT A DICK. Auburn player probably didn't care, though.

I was so happy that CBS decided to play the Auburn homer network people on some of the replays. I was in the car listening to XM when they were reviewing the time on the clock but then I got home just in time to see it live. The homer networks always have the best calls.

I can't help but be a little jealous of auburn right now. I would really wish the Hokies could be involved in a situation like that. But right now I'm just going to enjoy the fact that the Hokies stomped the hoos and bama finally went down.

Bingo. Saban lobbied really hard for the chance to kick that field goal and it bit him in the butt. If you're the head coach at Alabama, you never want to lose an Iron Bowl, no matter how many NCs you have under your belt.
I wonder what he's thinking tonight about that Texas opportunity?

I see returns on field goals every weekend and very rarely are they returned for touchdowns. That was the first one I've seen in a couple years. Those guys should have been able to make a play on the returner, especially considering Auburn went all out for the block with the 10 guys at the line. He barely even got touched on the play.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If they went all-out block, those guys are definitely fast enough to get downfield and block for a potential return. I don't think, as was stated, that Alabama's huge OL-heavy FG unit is used to making open-field tackles on returners.

Only if tOSU loses. Even SOS I don't think could leapfrog an undefeated from an AQ conference, no matter how weak the B1Gs been lately. Plus the human vote I think will help keep tOSU up as long as they win.
So chances are it'll be FSU v OSU.

Oh, there's definitely a chance - after all, Auburn plays in the SEC, and you know ESECPN would love to get their campaign going to have an SEC team in the MNC. But, I honestly don't think it happens if OSU finishes undefeated. IF (and it's a big IF) OSU beats MSU next week, we'll see FSU vs. OSU for the MNC. And for the first year in what, 8 years?, we won't have an SEC team present.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Exactly, this just destroyed my ideal scenario of ACC knocking SEC off their pedestal combined with OSU going undefeated 2 years in a row with nothing to show. If it's FSU-OSU, people will still be saying Auburn/Bama are the better teams and there's just too much depth in the SEC. An SEC team needs to be beat in the championship game to quiet the SEC hype. Let's go Michigan State.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If I understand the BCS selection process correctly, the Orange Bowl will likely have the 1st and 3rd picks. Assuming FSU and OSU go to the MNC, they'll receive the first pick to replace FSU, the Rose Bowl would receive the next pick to replace OSU, and then they would get the next pick because it's their turn in the rotation. The Sugar Bowl will get the SEC champion and I wouldn't be surprised if the Orange Bowl takes an SEC team with one of their picks, so that makes it pretty likely IMO that Clemson ends up playing one of the top SEC teams.
Edit: just read further down in the thread, hadn't saw the results of the Clemson game yet.

The computers don't seem to like tOSU very much - I'd be willing to bet that if Auburn wins the SECCG they'll be in the NC Game. Additionally, tOSU has to beat Michigan State in their CG, and I don't think they can do it.

When I saw that ending, I said to my friend: "FSU just got a clearer shot for the Championship."
I just don't think OSU has the speed to match FSU, (but what do I know.)
It's like a role reversal when OSU played Meyer at UF and just didn't have the horses.
Go ACC.

Unfortunately he may be done at Alabama. I don't see how he can possibly show his face on campus without getting threatened or heckled at. Feel bad for the guy. Hopefully they will forget about it and leave him alone, but I doubt it.

So flying back to Alabama, the stewardess announced this on the plane as we were taxiing- needless to say there was a mixed reaction.
Then, driving home from the airport, I got to hear a replay of the game-ending call, and I happened to notice I was driving past a van covered in Alabama stickers, flags, etc. right as the radio guys are screaming "OH MY GOD" and "AUBURN'S GOING TO WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME," and so on.
I chuckled.

Watching sportcenter coverage of this...since it's all they want to talk about. Just reminds me something I've come to realize since moving to Alabama.
There is NOTHING to do in Alabama other than watch football.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to use my brain this afternoon and can be in full-on production mode at work so I can listen to Finebaum. Easily setting up as the most entertaining afternoon of the 2013 season on his show...

For the record, yes, Auburn has a couple offensive players they didn't have last year. For starters, their QB is now a safety and they got another guy who was a JC transfer.

A VT grad would have examined the trajectory and such of the latest missed FG, placed the uprights 10 yards or so forward of their previous position. Then, they would expect an improved result.

Most insane finish I've seen.
Malzahn's players in Malzahn's system is better than Malzahn's players in Chizik's "system." No other explanation needed.

Well a lot of it is being in the right place at the right time. But those coaches are putting those payers in the right place.
That should really screw up the whole bcs pretty good. I just wish Ohio state would lose, I can't stand urban Meyer , dude is a arrogant SOB.
Alabama fans right now...

Yeah these unfortunately are the kinds of games that stick with a kid, unfairly.
Hopefully more will be made of Saban trying that last FG in the first place.
Yeah, that was a bit ambitious of him.
All kinds of awesome! Congrats Auburn
Anatomy of an earth-shattering win:
Wonder how Griffith felt after that hit? What a play.... too bad I missed it, but wouldnt trade seeing that live on TV over being at the inauguration of VT into the #decadeofdominance

Decade of Dominance.
Alabama loses in the most amazing way possible.
Tree is up and my 2 year old is losing it.
Bourbon in hand.
Life is good my friends.

Wife and in-laws are huge Bama fans. It just got really quiet.
Man, you gotta wonder how Saban feels now about pushing the refs for that 1 second on the clock. Backfire.
Bingo. Saban lobbied really hard for the chance to kick that field goal and it bit him in the butt. If you're the head coach at Alabama, you never want to lose an Iron Bowl, no matter how many NCs you have under your belt.

None of his decisions at the end were wrong. His guys should have been more prepared for that return than they were.
Maybe, but usually the FG team's not used to returns.
If he puts the punt team on the FG unit, that kick gets blocked most likely.
I see returns on field goals every weekend and very rarely are they returned for touchdowns. That was the first one I've seen in a couple years. Those guys should have been able to make a play on the returner, especially considering Auburn went all out for the block with the 10 guys at the line. He barely even got touched on the play.
Two things:
1) Outkicked the coverage
2) Said coverage had 7 OL's or DL's, a kicker, and a holder. (9 out of 11 had very little chance of catching him)
If they went all-out block, those guys are definitely fast enough to get downfield and block for a potential return. I don't think, as was stated, that Alabama's huge OL-heavy FG unit is used to making open-field tackles on returners.
OSU going to the ship!
State has to beat State first.
Ohio St is going to have their hands full with the Spartans
Any chance of Auburn leaping tOSU? Strength of schedule and all that? I'd much rather see FSU vs. Auburn.
Only if tOSU loses. Even SOS I don't think could leapfrog an undefeated from an AQ conference, no matter how weak the B1Gs been lately. Plus the human vote I think will help keep tOSU up as long as they win.

daOSU > FSU
Bananas!
Is this a troll post?
Jsketch has a history of rooting against the team they want to win. When a game isn't upcoming, their profile pic is AJ Hughes.
Bottom line: It's only weird if it doesn't work.
well, in this case I actually attend a large public university in central Ohio
Excellent clarification then.
Good luck to you. Thanks. Leg.

I DEFINITELY do not want another SEC NC win, but oh... I would LOVE to see an ACC team thrash an SEC in one.
I would take an ACC team trashing Ohio St as well. Big 10 has been weak
True life. I loathe FSU, but I loathe the SEC more
Exactly, this just destroyed my ideal scenario of ACC knocking SEC off their pedestal combined with OSU going undefeated 2 years in a row with nothing to show. I'm predicting that the Orange Bowl takes Alabama as their at-large pick, because why wouldn't you take them if you could?
Or the Orange Bowl just picks the highest ranked team not already obligated to a bowl, which could very likely be Alabama.
The computers don't seem to like tOSU very much - I'd be willing to bet that if Auburn wins the SECCG they'll be in the NC Game. Additionally, tOSU has to beat Michigan State in their CG, and I don't think they can do it.
There's no way that OSU should go ahead of a 1 loss team that beat #1 Alabama and #5 Missouri.
When I saw that ending, I said to my friend: "FSU just got a clearer shot for the Championship."
I just don't think OSU has the speed to match FSU, (but what do I know.)
It's like a role reversal when OSU played Meyer at UF and just didn't have the horses.
Go ACC.
wow much return
such iron bowl so weep
bama lost wow
As soon as I saw the title I saw doge, thank you. much appreciation, such lulz.
This should never happen in sports.

Unfortunately he may be done at Alabama. I don't see how he can possibly show his face on campus without getting threatened or heckled at. Feel bad for the guy. Hopefully they will forget about it and leave him alone, but I doubt it.
Pathetic trash fans, no surprise.
Maybe he can take classes somewhere else and get a degree that's actually worth something. Bama fans will be in full meltdown for weeks.
Lest we forget, some of our own treated Cody Journell the same way this season.
Bama fans are notorious for this. They will murder their own players if they mess up.
I feel bad for the guy. Looks like his team has his back, though, if nothing else.
http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2013/11/alabama_players_defe...
Klempson seems to be finished.
Clemson clemsoning hard again. 4 turnovers. There goes 2 ACC BCS teams unless Duke shocks the world
5 turnovers for Clemson. Bad day for the ACC against the SEC today
What if I told you that an all tigers sec title game didn't include LSU? ESPN 30 for 30: Tigers and Tigers and Tigers oh my
Wife's an Auburn girl... Fuck her.
Isn't that your job?
So flying back to Alabama, the stewardess announced this on the plane as we were taxiing- needless to say there was a mixed reaction.

Pretty ironic that Bama wins its first game this year based upon special teams, and loses its last based upon same. There IS justice!
My favorite thing about these big games are the fan reaction videos:
I think this lady gets possessed by the ghost of Auburn past:
Watching sportcenter coverage of this...since it's all they want to talk about. Just reminds me something I've come to realize since moving to Alabama.

For the record, yes, Auburn has a couple offensive players they didn't have last year. For starters, their QB is now a safety and they got another guy who was a JC transfer.
Wouldn't help them this year, but since the Iron Bowl will by in Bryant-Denny next year, Alabama made some modifications:
Very nice and a typical "fix" by an SEC school.
A VT grad would have examined the trajectory and such of the latest missed FG, placed the uprights 10 yards or so forward of their previous position. Then, they would expect an improved result.
I would have installed a trap door in the end zone. Completely negates the 109-yard return in one swift flick of a switch!
I'm sending this to every Bama fan I know!
What is it with these good SEC teams and kicking issues?
