Did Dematrius Davis take VT off of his Twitter or was his VT commitment never mentioned on his twitter profile?
As of 10pm eastern, it appears so. VT staff members Nash O'Fallon and Beau Davis have retweeted a pair of Dee's old VT tweets in the past hour. Anyone with #sauces close to the program have anything?

I was stationed in Germany and had it in my contract as my first duty station. My recruiter passed some sage wisdom to me. Well, I'm sure he had a lot less of a headache with the way things worked out.
Speaking of contractors, there was this Scottish contractor that worked for GD who was there for a time. She could've had a literal fruitcake for a brain and I would've run off with her just for the experience. She was a right bonnie lass.

(1) Getting out of academic bench science to move into business consulting
(2) Calling off the wedding and not marrying the first woman I was engaged to - looking back, I wonder if the fact that she grew up in the same province Wuhan is in was foreshadowing
(3) Looking in the rear view mirror - which allowed me to take evasive action and not get rear-ended at a high rate of speed on a highway in Ohio
Years later, I actually had the conversation with her and asked why she did all the crap she did. She apologized - twice - said it was "all" her fault (I could have done better as well, but it was overwhelmingly her fault) and ... let's just say I can understand why she was so messed up.

not sure they expected him to decomitt this quickly. Especially since his other big thing was not being allowed to visit other schools. VT thought he would stay until things opened up (can't do OV's) and hopefully by then have some other guys in the group to keep him.

I think JUGS was referring to coronavirus preventing him from visiting other schools, not one of Fuente's non-policy policies that the media ran with and blew way out of proportion (still hard to believe that's happened more than once).

I'm not worried I have been following Mr. Dematrius (Dee) Davis, and he knows what will happen when he enrolls at Virginia Tech. First watching his film he is obviously the number 1 best Quarterback coming out of the 2021 class. He knows it, we know it and everybody else knows it. Also the way he has been conducting himself on social media and in public, and his decision to commit to the Hokies, also tells me he is one of, if not the most, intelligent incoming college football players in the world. With that being said if he comes to VT there is no doubt he knows he will win the Campbell Trophy, the Paul Hornung award (because based on film how do you not have him also return punts and kicks where he will set records for yardage and touchdowns), the Davey O'Brien Award, the Maxwell Award, and the Heisman. He knows if he goes to Virginia Tech he will win many of these awards multiple times. Unfortunately unlike Joe Burrows he will not win the Johnny Unitas award for outstanding Senior QB because, just like Vick, he knows when he goes to Virginia Tech he will come out after his second or third year as the number one pick in the NFL draft. He also knows if he goes to Virginia Tech he will fill the stands like the Vick years, Randall years and Taylor years, and we will not see any empty seats ever. He also knows if he goes to Virginia Tech he will receive an extra boost from Hokie Nation who like the Hokies will return to national fan prominence. Lastly he knows if he goes to Virginia Tech they will make runs, and likely win one or two national titles, and most importantly number 3 will be flying next to number 7 in Lane stadium for eternity.

So out of curiosity, checked his twitter feed again. He had deleted a retweet of his regarding him from a VT fan site (I think it was red cup or something). He had also deleted the notice he'd posted about the offer he got from Arizona state and another (re?)tweet of his about Arizona State's coach. So basically looks like he's deleting stuff about colleges in general, not just Tech.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
he seems to have removed a lot of college stuff, he had things from ASU and other schools on there. So didn't think removing that from his profile was a big deal.
Saw Evan had a post that is getting some traction, so not sure if they have any theories as to what is going on all of a sudden.

If we lose DD, it's not the staff's ability to close I lose faith in. DD has been singing our praises and recruiting for us for some time, if he backs out now then that's just a disloyal and immature look on his part. And no, I'm not one of the folks who defends the staff's every move, but if he backs out now then all that proves is that he is one of these kids that doesn't yet understand what the word COMMITMENT means.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I agree to some degree. If he has a good reason he backed out, then that's cool. If its because he got a different offer or something else (like twitter or Vick not calling him) then that is a bad look.
I looked back at his twitter account, and when Fuente was rumored to be going to BU, he said VT would still have his commitment. He has talked a serious game and recruited all types of other folks and seems to have been all in. If he were to back out now, that would be pretty crazy if there isn't a good reason attached to it.
He would also take a hit I think from other players on the character front. I mean, if you are trying to get guys to sign up with you, and then you go back on it, I'm sure those others have to think you are crazy.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Oh, I'm not judging his character at all. I'm sure he's a great guy. But if you commit to joining a team, sing their praises, start a movement and convince other guys to join you, and then back out, that's disloyal and immature if you're 16, 26, or 56. And we don't even know where he stands, I don't even think this conversation is going anywhere cauz I think he's still a Hokie. Not sure why people are downvoting that.
(And again, I'm assuming that our staff didn't do anything horrible to turn him off to VT, that would be a different situation).
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm pretty down on Fuente and not sure he's going to be able to recruit at the level we need to succeed but hard to judge him if he loses a prospect as good as DD to an Auburn or someone at that level. Not sure what pitch Fuente can make that beats "come to Auburn, we'll make you the next Cam Newton".
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
This plus Fuente has zero ties to Mike Vick's success at VT. Gus Malzahn was Newton's QB coach & Offensive Coordinator when they won the title in 2010.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
So "Come to Auburn and we'll make you a 6'4" motaur" sounds more true than "Come to VTech and we'll make you a 6ft jitterbug".....I doubt either is a real possibility but I would lean closer to the next MV7 than the next Cam...IMO
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I mean... if early playing time, our history with mobile QBs, and us putting all of our eggs into this basket isn't enough I will 1000% absolutely judge this staff. That being said, this would just be the last straw. If this potential was an isolated incident, I'd be much more lenient.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't get stressed out about it anymore. I just assume any major recruit we're after isn't coming to VT, and the ones who verbally commit won't actually be there come signing day. It's much easier on my mental health, and prevents me from being disappointed. I've accepted that we'll be a 6 to 8 win team going forward.

Didn't have to go far in the comments for "wish you stayed another year"
Simba went 9-3, and had a hell of a team. If the following year was Jackson's first, woof. New faces on offense and defense. Team just didn't gel. Locker room cancers. Looking back, it's like 2018 was meant to be.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Hey if he wants to back out let him back out. You want guys that are strong and fully committed. You can say that 17 year olds are impressionable etc but as the transfer portal shows a lot of these guys get buyers remorse. They get sold on glitz and glamour and then reality hits. Joe Burrow had to transfer to play. Tua was a backup. Guys have to see that there's adversity in life - pick a path and stay true to it no matter what.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah. the CFB landscape has seen blue chip recruits sign on ESD, enroll early for spring semester, and then hit the transfer portal before camp even starts ahead of their freshman season.
also "tua was a backup" made me laugh. It's true, but it made me laugh. He was a true freshman sitting behind a true sophomore in Jalen Hurts who won SEC OPOY as a true freshman. No true freshman in america was going to start the season at QB over Hurts
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
But it's the coaching staff's job to keep them fully committed. "Committed", for both parties, means something along the lines of 'you have a spot until either party agrees you don't'. It's not a handshake and done deal with signing day as a foregone conclusion like it was back in the day. It's a grind up until the ink is dry.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Mere hours ago this thread seemed like madness, now it seems like prophecy. wtf.
This sucks as a fan. But imagine being a coach, like working your ass off 10 to 12 hours a day, doing what you thought was the right thing, getting a glimpse of success, and then having something so important to your career and yet so utterly mystifying and mercurial as a 17 year old kids thought process ruin everything. You would have to be either crazy, or a zealot to succeed in this business.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Honestly when this thread popped up I had a feeling this was coming. Yes it seems completely crazy but social media is huge to these kids (hence all the "get me to X followers" nonsense) and that type of change is very much calculated and intentional.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
You nailed it. There are a lot of folks quickly turning into doomsdayers to this coaching staff again. And for what? A month ago, we were getting very specific attention for expecting a surge in recruiting and the staff doing it all right. One change of mind and they are chumps again? Recruiting is gross. We would all be better off not knowing a damn thing.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Obviously there are some coaches that are really good at this. I don't really understand what that quality is that makes them so, but in my mind I associate it with undesirable character traits. Maybe thats not true, maybe we could find a coaching staff that fits the culture Beamer and Foster created and also be elite recruiters. I know that this staff is working their hardest and by all accounts trying to do things the right way. I tip my hat to them for that, and also feel bad for them a little bit because I'm just sorta disappointed, but this is a matter of their livelihood, has ramifications for their future and that of their families. It seems like a brutal business where hard work doesn't always pay off and your fate is in the hands of something silly like recruiting. Its the name of the game obviously, but its just, madness.

Scottish/Irish accent = +2 on the hotness scale.
On a ten point scale:
Irish accent: +3
Scottish accent: +5
You're a little off.
The lass wouldve been a 9 minus the accent. She had the wits and snark to boot. Wits and snark throw in another +2/piece. So, 18/10.
I'm sticking with my valuations, as my 10 point scale only goes to 10. Accents have a maximum value of 2.
Wits and snark also merit adjustment.
You're of course describing a unicorn in a class with Soirse Ronan, Emily Mortimer, or Emma Watson.

And now we've officially hit peak offseason.

Where is demetrius davis?
but I think we all really want to know... why is demetrius davis?
Fuck. No reason for him to take down that he is committed to VT. There is this though.
To be fair to Davis, the VT QB room is loaded. He may be intimidated with all of the young talent in the pipeline. /S

Auburn also had a decommit from Aaron McLaughlin back in February as an FYI. So not surprised that Auburn is looking for a QB

If coaching search rumors are anything to go off of "Looking for a house nearby" is the biggest red flag against something happening.
Man, that makes it hurt worse!
VT staff was told last week he was going to leave, whether they believed it or not seems to be muddy. Would also explain the silence from current staff on Twitter
Of that's true then it hadn't made it my guy yet. Or Beau for that matter
not sure they expected him to decomitt this quickly. Especially since his other big thing was not being allowed to visit other schools. VT thought he would stay until things opened up (can't do OV's) and hopefully by then have some other guys in the group to keep him.
I know our staff ain't the only one that does this, but how come our "policy" is always out in public?
I think JUGS was referring to coronavirus preventing him from visiting other schools, not one of Fuente's non-policy policies that the media ran with and blew way out of proportion (still hard to believe that's happened more than once).
You would have to think they are in panic mode. I am interested to see if there is an elevated sense of urgency we will be able to notice.
obviously expect a few QB offers to go out. Definitely some damage control with Neville because DD was his dude.
I took VT out of my twitter bio in solidarity
I'm still cackling at this.
huh, We have a lot in common because I just decommitted from a Door Dash order
Coach Davidson seems to be weighing in...
Saw this post, and for a second thought I had accidentally clicked on the Coronavirus thread.
I saw a video with two urgent care doctors from California and they totally said he's going to Auburn. And they're doctors, people. So, you know...
SHIT.
Reading this novel made me think of this scene (not in a bad way though)

You forgot the part where if he doesn't end up at VT, we didn't really need him, he was overrated, didn't fit the scheme, etc.
S/!
As tale as old as time. *chef kiss*
this guy gets it

So out of curiosity, checked his twitter feed again. He had deleted a retweet of his regarding him from a VT fan site (I think it was red cup or something). He had also deleted the notice he'd posted about the offer he got from Arizona state and another (re?)tweet of his about Arizona State's coach. So basically looks like he's deleting stuff about colleges in general, not just Tech.
Sounded to me like he was turning his attention to senior year. But who knows
That's what I do when I want to focus more on school. I delete tweets.
Maybe he's experiencing slow load times
If I were him, I'd get any mention of schools off my social media, so I can start with 3rd-party endorsements as soon as the NCAA passes it.
That should be in full force by the time he's in school.
247 is now worried about Dee and they are saying removing VT from the twitter bio was the beginning of it. Damnit.
he seems to have removed a lot of college stuff, he had things from ASU and other schools on there. So didn't think removing that from his profile was a big deal.
Saw Evan had a post that is getting some traction, so not sure if they have any theories as to what is going on all of a sudden.

Can we please avoid posting links that are behind a paywall?
I tried to downvote myself but it wouldn't let me.
No big deal! I've made the same mistake before...it's easy to do!
I just downvoted you to balance it out....I kid, I kid
Yeah, that's the one I saw. I don't subscribe, however wasn't looking for the actual information, being respectful to the paywall.
However, just hope they have some theories or thoughts and its not just speculation or assumptions.
The pessimism is based on the 247 guys talking to their contacts. "Confidence is fading"
Ah ok, thanks for the clarification.
We know this is an easy rule to be unfamiliar with, but please refrain from posting articles from other sites behind paywalls. It's okay to share info you get from other sources but do not link or quote directly info from behind paywalls. No further downvoting necessary. We appreciate you contributing to the conversation and feel free to continue to do so as long as it's not information from behind a paywall.

If we lose DD, I lose any remaining hope I have in our current staff's ability to close. It would just be too much at that point.
I feel like judging the character of a 16, maybe 17 year old kid based on one of the biggest decisions of his life is not ideal.
Is "Come to VT, we'll make you the next Mike Vick" really not that obvious?
I mean sorta but no recruit was born yet when Vick was in college. Cam Newton rings a lot truer.
"Come to Auburn, you can be the next Cam Newton"
~ "but I already have a laptop..."
This plus Fuente has zero ties to Mike Vick's success at VT. Gus Malzahn was Newton's QB coach & Offensive Coordinator when they won the title in 2010.
Who does Cam play for right now? /s
So "Come to Auburn and we'll make you a 6'4" motaur" sounds more true than "Come to VTech and we'll make you a 6ft jitterbug".....I doubt either is a real possibility but I would lean closer to the next MV7 than the next Cam...IMO
I mean... if early playing time, our history with mobile QBs, and us putting all of our eggs into this basket isn't enough I will 1000% absolutely judge this staff. That being said, this would just be the last straw. If this potential was an isolated incident, I'd be much more lenient.
Bruh I'm never coming to a recruiting thread again. Lol.
Iono how y'all do this. Too stressful.
Can't blame you.
I mean we use to dogpile Mike London for his 5-7 year rebuild process but at least he could recruit.
London has one winning season at UVa over six seasons. Fuente had three over four seasons.
Yes, VT should aspire to be more like Mike London era UVA football. Then we'd be living the dream.
Pretty good QB looking to come to Blacksburg
Didn't have to go far in the comments for "wish you stayed another year"
Simba went 9-3, and had a hell of a team. If the following year was Jackson's first, woof. New faces on offense and defense. Team just didn't gel. Locker room cancers. Looking back, it's like 2018 was meant to be.
Well he did leave one year of eligibility on the table
Wasn't the story that he stopped going to class and wouldn't be eligible?
Yes it came out that he might not have been eligible the next season.
Yeah. the CFB landscape has seen blue chip recruits sign on ESD, enroll early for spring semester, and then hit the transfer portal before camp even starts ahead of their freshman season.
also "tua was a backup" made me laugh. It's true, but it made me laugh. He was a true freshman sitting behind a true sophomore in Jalen Hurts who won SEC OPOY as a true freshman. No true freshman in america was going to start the season at QB over Hurts
Dee just decommitted. I quit.
Sorry for the auto correct
I still quit
Mere hours ago this thread seemed like madness, now it seems like prophecy. wtf.
This sucks as a fan. But imagine being a coach, like working your ass off 10 to 12 hours a day, doing what you thought was the right thing, getting a glimpse of success, and then having something so important to your career and yet so utterly mystifying and mercurial as a 17 year old kids thought process ruin everything. You would have to be either crazy, or a zealot to succeed in this business.
Honestly when this thread popped up I had a feeling this was coming. Yes it seems completely crazy but social media is huge to these kids (hence all the "get me to X followers" nonsense) and that type of change is very much calculated and intentional.
