Report: Marshall Wood plans to ask for his release

Oh boy...

Wood said he might still want to play for Tech, depending on who the new coach is, but he wants to get his release and talk to other schools.

"I talked to my parents about it and I just felt like I need to get my release so I can review all my options," he told me today. "If somebody gets the job at Tech that recruited me or something and I have a really good relationship with, I possibly could still go back. But right now I just want to get the release so I can have more options to look at.

"I don't know who's going to be the new coach. If it takes a long time, then I'll be way behind, so I just wanted to get [the release] early.

"I really like the school. I love the school. I really liked the coaching staff. Now basically everybody's gone. That was something that was very important to me so I feel like I need to look at my options now.

"I want to make sure I have my options open so I don't go into a bad situation or whatever it might be. I just think it's the smart thing to do."

Wood

Smart move by him to get a chance to talk to other coaches again as soon as possible. I'm sure a coach with an available scholarship would love to add a guy like Wood late in the period. His primary recruiter was James Johnson I believe, so I would be surprised if he wasn't considering asking for a release even before Greenberg was fired.
