As a Stanford fan: crap.

Dude took an awful (and I mean really, really awful) Washington team that was maybe 4 years or so removed from a winless season and made them relevant in the loaded Pac-12 North. Great hire for USC, IMO.

As for who's next, your guess is as good as mine.

I wish him the best, but USC Football the worst.

I honestly thought it was gonna be Jack del Rio considering how well he did with the Broncos while John Fox was out. Best of luck to them.

Who do y'all think will take the Washington job?

that would be a bit of a plot twist...and kind of amusing too

Onward and upward

ESPN is reporting Orgeron has resigned.

dont blame him. he got screwed over

VT CEE Class of 2016/2017

5 years, 2 degrees, 33 football games as a student, and 2 Cassell court stormings later, I bleed Maroon and Orange

I don't blame him. He should have gotten a shot. He took a five alarm dumpster fire and got it down to a stovetop grease accident.

Leonard. Duh.

I'm willing to bet that Sarkisian wanted his own guys. Clean sweep and a fresh start. Orgeron said he wanted to stay on a la Stiney (my words, not his).

Well there ya go. I guess I shouldn't be shocked that a USC football coach straight-up lied on national TV. I mean, the guy did work for Kiffin... *sigh* so much for my belief that people are generally good.

its playiog the game- if he said anything differently, the media wouldve been ALL OVER him.

so much for my belief that people are generally good.

If it only took a misguided Ed Orgeron statement to destroy your faith in humanity, I don't even know where to start to help you.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

If I were a USC fan, I wouldn't be super excited about this. To me, this seems like an administration trying to recapture the Carroll "glory years" by hiring one of his past assistants instead of looking at the best candidates available (*Jame Franklin* cough cough). Reports are that the USC admin had their eyes on Sark the whole time. Not saying he hasn't done well at Wash, or that he has no chance of succeeding - just that I doubt they did their due dilligence, and suspect they may be looking backwards instead of forwards here.

It was a catch

Agreed. I read an article about how USC constantly looks back to the glory days to try and get things back to the way they were. This reeks of that. Orgeron definitely had what it took to bring that team back to relevance. So they lost to UCLA, so what. UCLA is good. Orgeron is good. USC set themselves back to square one with this hire.

Have you seen Cal this year? Absolutely awful. I loved every minute of the Big Game (63-13, Stanford, it was glorious). Point is, Sark has proven he's capable of winning big-time football. He's been in the hunt just about every year despite being very much outmatched by teams like Stanford and Oregon. Give him the talent at USC, and him beating the Northern big boys might be a more regular occurrence.

I won't say that Franklin isn't/won't be a very good/successful coach. But right now, I'm seeing nothing that says Sark isn't the right guy for the job right now.

I'd just be worried that the USC admin didn't make a thorough search. It sounds to me like they already knew who they wanted before the search began, and the reason they wanted that guy was because of his association to Carroll. He could be successful, but I just feel like situations like this usually disappoint.

It was a catch

whats the record for interim coaches in one season?

Orgeron will have no problem finding a HC position in FBS.

Completely agree. He simply wants to be a head coach and by cutting ties with USC (his resignation to make it official) he is simply putting himself out there to say "hey, I wanna be yo coach"

There was a buzz around Mora taking that job, but he's remaining at UCLA.
