DISCLAIMER: I'm absolutely, positively not saying that those selected didn't deserve their recognition. They are all very talented football players. What I AM saying is that the distribution of players selected, when compared with team defensive rankings, is a real head scratcher on its surface.

Naturally, this did not go unnoticed by @VT_Football
Thanks for the respect, ACC Media.
tobacco road media strikes again.
I love it, one more offseason of pissed off hungry defenders. Keep overlooking the Hokies, please!
And Gayle was all like...
How in the hell did Kendall Fuller didn't make the 1st team is beyond me, one hell of a season kid.
Well, there's no doubt as to where these guys rank in OUR hearts & minds.
Duke having three first-team ACC defenders is so laughable, I get they just had their dream season and all but defense was hardly their specialty and they certainly shouldn't have the most first team defensive players out of the entire conference.
This is a case of perception being reality. We lost 4, therefore our D isn't as good as it usually is. Duke won the division, so they have to be better. Not completely true, but that's how it seems, so that's how they voted...Sux.
Indeed. I hate to cherry-pick stats, but the first thought that came to my mind was: Duke gave up 58 points to Pitt. We gave up 9, and 6 of those were in garbage time basically.
VT has the best defense in the ACC, but apparently no one is worthy of first-team honors. Unbelievable.
And truly a shame. Hopefully it will provide some motivation for the young kids to go out and really prove their worth next year. (Not saying they didn't this year!) Some more motivation for Bud to fire them up.
Well, just think...if Duke didn't have that all ACC defense, Pitt probably breaks out with 60 pts.
They are reporters gentlemen. Look at the newspaper industry. Its an industry without a business model. The standard of writing, sports analysis, and general sports aptitude barely exists because of the cutbacks. Feel bad for those guys. Having a day job that means you need a night job. You get the dregs because you're paying for a product that used to be paid for with useless advertising dollars that are now going equally uselessly to google.
Watched Stephen A Smith the other day and he got me so confused I think I had a stroke. This is a guy who gets tons of airtime. Literally it was like all the colors and lights flashing and my mind just all got connected together at once, but Stephen A Smith was using mumbo jumbo words. I personally think he is some kind of DARPA experiment in mass brainwashing. You listen to him enough your brain becomes so plastic it will accept any kind of rewiring, no matter how nonsensical.
Even the Tomahawknation site noticed that "anamoly" and thought both FL State and VT were screwed. But Duke Football.... I'm jus sayin!
Yeah, I heard from them, too
It's all a scam to hope that next year Duke continues to ride on their magical trip.. Sadly FSU will put up 60+ on that ALL-ACC D and these people will look like fools.
This is nothing new.. has anyone followed the ACC POTW, they have been the biggest joke ever. It's like the ACC conference like to F up the bass way to much. We look like idiots.. How many SEC 1st team players do you think Florida will get... or even Kentucky... NONE and its for a reason.
ACC trolls and always will troll...
Florida should probably get some first team defensive players. They've got a solid defense.
I assume you meant FSU, not UF.
No I meant UF. They've had a good defense all year, and an abysmal offense. Look at the top of the page. Their defense is top ten. Its not the best defense in the country, but its pretty solid.
Ok, thanks for the clarification.
Anybody know what the result of the SEC awards are?
I have a message for the ACC, $ec$pn, all game ref officials and the mainstream media:
I approve.
Don't forget an extra special mention for anyone in any way affiliated with Pac-12 officiating or replay reviews.
They ALL screw us over. Every damn game every damn season.
Seven of Eleven from squads 57th or worse Nationally....way to pick the shiny pebble from the mud puddles media. Just shows what happens when you put the vote in the hands of media members that primarily cover one team and are vaguely aware of the other teams by what they see on highlights. Its like when the NBA opened the All Star votes to the public and then wondered why Yao Ming was voted the starting center in seasons he hadn't even played a game because the entire country of China voted for him.
Or the time Palmeiro won the gold glove at first base when only playing 28 games there.
Hey, Rafe's the man...
Ironic, considering the savage outcome of that game. (OT: And isn't it cool how I just copy and pasted the quote by itself, and it automatically put the link in...I was going to do it anyway, but wow, roanoke.com got their bases covered)
Edit: Not knocking the selection; just when I hear 'Pitt', 'defense', 'tackle' and 'impact', I think of poor Tom and chuckle a little. And I prefer to not use the comma before the 'and', but understand it is acceptable.
To be fair, Aaron Donald was absolutely ridonkulous this year and if anyone on that joke list deserves their first-team honors it was him. As nasty as our defense played as a complete unit, if I were to give my unbiased vote for ACC DPOY it would probably be Donald.
The thing to remember about these lists is it's not really about who is the best player at that position, it's who puts up the biggest stat lines. FSU's and our defense as a whole was really good. This lead to spreading the glory around, instead of like some of the players on the list who piled up the stats on lesser defenses. A bulb looks a lot brighter when it's in a closet than it does outside at high noon. Hell, Kyle Fuller is projected as one of the first CBs drafted and he's nowhere on the list, albeit because he was injured for the past few games.
