Magic 8 Ball : All signs point to the (1947) Sun Bowl

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it appears the HOKIES are heading to El Paso, TX to play in the SUN BOWL,
most likely against UCLA.

The HOKIES' potential bowl situation is interesting due to the fact that The SUN BOWL is the very first bowl game in which the HOKIES ever competed (in 1947). Also, in that game the HOKIES played Cincinnati and lost 18-6. Other projections have the HOKIES going to the Russel Athletic Bowl this year. What's interesting about that is Cincinnati is their projected match up. So either scenario will be kinda a throwback rematch combo of sorts.

Besides being extremely cold day for El Paso, the only other notable thing about the 1947 Sun Bowl was that 'BEAMERBALL' was already alive and kicking. The HOKIES blocked all three extra point attempts that day. THREE! Do you think it is a coincidence that Frank Beamer was born merely one year prior to this game? .. I dont.

GO HOKIES!!! ~8)

Correct. And he saved 2 of every animal in the process.

That wasn't to make sure he could repopulate the earth though. Those were all snacks for later.

God created the universe because Sam Rogers dared him to.

"Exit light..."

Sam Rogers and God sat there at the table. A single tear rolled down God's cheek. He was scared of the figure that now sat across from him. Whatever he said, he was going to do it.

And then the great decree came from Sam Rogers, "Do it you bitch."

And thus the universe came to be.

The Big Bang was Sam Rogers high-fiving God when it was done.

Awkward. Don't think I'm gonna go that far with it.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

The craziest thing about the 1947 Sun Bowl was VT's record; that Hokie squad finished the regular season with a record of 3-3-3. Cincinnati, on the other hand, had a record of 8-2.

How the heck did the Hokies make this bowl game?

I imagine back then it was like one coach call s the other coach and says wanna play int the whatever bowl?
if they agreed they would play. Almost like a pickup game for college football.

Mike London wishes this bowl format was still they way it's done. 2-10 records would be eligible...

Dear California Golden Bears,

I just got off the phone with Comedy Central, and they are willing to sponsor a bowl game for us to play in. I wanted to formerly extend you an offer to join us on a field, somewhere in central New Jersey, that is supposedly surrounded by a broken chain-link fence and some benches. Co-sponsorship may be secured from Roto-Rooter at a later date.

Please be part of the historic start to my new bowl dynasty.

Best Wishes,
TimeCop

"Exit light..."

I just lost it. Well done.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

P.S. 'we have the security covered...I am doing double duty as a rent-a-cop"

(just an FYI- other than Trenton, central Jersey is actually quite nice)

Oh balls.

This is my daily life.

I believe it was because the two schools they wanted turned them down and one of the members on the Sun Bowl Committee was a VT alum. He suggested that the committee send us an invite and we accepted.

Whadya mean I can't take off my sweater? I'm HOT!

Man I don't want to go to the Sun bowl....I would much rather go to a bowl closer to Blacksburg so we can have
as many fans there as possible. El Paso is just way too far...especially for students. But then again I am really
glad we made into a bowl game and the Sun bowl is better than no bowl.

@AMB4VT

Totally agree, cheapest ticket I found was 675 out of RDU

Go Hokies!

Road Trip!

I could see UCLA's offense giving us some trouble.
