Per David Teel. Would play each pod team home and away, plus leave available dates to preserve traditional SEC-ACC rivalries.
Note that one proposed alignment would have the former Big East schools + ND in a pod (VT, Cuse, Pitt, BC, Notre Dame)

I like this. The other two pod scenarios they mentioned are much cooler than the "Big East" one. Option #2 would be awesome...FSU, Miami, Clemson and GT.
But what really sells me is the possibility of throwing in an SEC game or two. How the hell they'd pull this off in a month and a half is beyond me though.
Yes I want this one
Great games but 0 % chance of winning the ACC.
Something something Carrier Dome.
Don't know why they wouldn't put UVA in this instead. They're further north.
This is the wet dream of all ACC elitists, to isolate and remove those schools to keep the ACC blood pure
UNC/UVA is the longest played cfb rivalry I think (or something like that). Powers that be will want to maintain that.
"In the south"
An unplanned trip to the Carrier Dome would be very fitting for 2020.
So we've moved onto the Bargaining stage, that's good.
Take your leg. Well played.
Let's say purely hypothetically we go undefeated in a relatively weak pod and there is no bowl/postseason. Do we get to claim a NC?
LOL.. VT in a pod with Pitt Cuse and BC? Regardless the type of team we have, one of those fucking annoying schools will pick us off for sure. No question.
Hokies are 1-7 at the Jiffy Pop dome since 1988. And that win was an 8-point scare with Michael Vick at the helm. You can safely count that potential game as a loss
Including - sadly I suppose- Fuente's 3rd worst loss as VT coach. That cuse team sucked. And of course they kicked our ass.
In 1918 we were 7-0-0 on the season. I say we should go back, find someone who voted us as a national champion, and go full Alabama and claim it as our school's first.
We absolutely have a case for MNC in 1918. We were 7-0, second best record behind 9-0 Texas, but 5-0 Michigan and 4-1 Pitt are the recognized champions. We should absolutely hang a banner.
How is this first time I have heard this idea? TKP has a fall project now.
Start planning the ceremony. We got shafted.
My favorite part of reading about that season is another game UNC won't acknowledge happened.
I like the fact that our best player was a fullback that didn't have a right hand.
Hey, we should push for as much of a season as possible this year. Evidently we are good in pandemic years...
God I hope they don't make some pathetic old Bog East pod. That would be absolutely depressing. I wouldn't mind ND being in play, but I want absolutely nothing to do with Pitt, Cuse, and BC ever again in any fashion whatsoever.
If the ACC was smart and cared about TV ratings, they would do the FSU Clemson Miami VT GT pod.
Well that rules out any plans Swofford would put together
How does two or three good games and 4 or 5 dogs every week helps the ACC's ratings?
Maybe early it sounds like a good idea. But at some point one or two teams in this pod are going to be like .333 or worse - so TV interest will decline in those games. Or everybody will be .500 give or take (not likely) and national TV interest will wane.
Football brands carry more weight than you think. People are going to watch a game if it is two recognizable football brands.
One, yes they matter but we've never done home and homes with 5 team pods before. It'll get boring for the casual fan of either team the 2nd time around when a 2-5 team is playing a 5-1 team regardless of "brand". Take a pod with OSU, UM, PSU, MSU and Maryland. An MSU-OSU game on opening weekend would get really good ratings, but would you watch the rematch in November if OSU was 5-1 and MSU was 2-4?
Two, you're forgetting that the ACC is committed to show pretty much every league game. What are the ratings going to be for the, say, 2nd BC-Syracuse or Uva =Wake or NC State-Pitt games? Yawn. It's still basically a zero-sum game. Putting the four biggest marquee names in one pod is not smart or good for the ACC.
The SEC figured this out long ago and the B1G figured it out when they added UMd and Rutgers to their eastern division. You want marquee names to have good records, not bad records. That way the big games are really BIG games everybody has on their calendar for weeks.
Please put us in a pod with UVA so we can beat them twice this year.
Even if we aren't, I would imagine they will be the 5th team on our schedule and we will play a home and home with them. I can't imagine schools without the SEC in-state rivals would play two different teams for their 9th and 10th games.
I WANT OUR CUP BACK!
So, if we're in a pod without UVA, I assume we'd still play them and lose one available spot for an SEC team? If they're in our pod, we play them twice.
I promise not to complain about any format chosen if it results in 2020 football. This team is on an apex with drastic need for positive momentum to preserve the future and if there is no football, I don't like what the future may hold.
Like it or not, this is almost certainly just the next step in the process towards having no VT football in the fall. I'm at least hopeful for an abbreviated season in the spring, but at this point the fall is looking like a lot cause.
Even Spring could be devastating. Any chance to snag a few recruits before signing day based on positive season is out the window. Our NFL draftees may not play in the spring. I will keep my fingers crossed but I wouldnt bet on fall ball either.
If the season gets moved to the spring, I'm 99% confident that both signing day and the draft would be moved to a few weeks after the season ends.
A few weeks wouldn't be enough time for combine, work ups for combine, team pro days, interviews etc. plus teams getting draft board ready. The athletic did an article about a spring season and polled coaches and the low end your talking 25-50 guys sitting out, high end over 150.
Yeah...almost certainly. (Rolls eyes...)
TBH at this point I would be ok with us playing little sisters of the poor for 10 weeks if it meant there was football to watch on Saturdays this fall
What if each ACC team played four home and homes against ACC teams and one against an OOC team? Obviously this would exclude the Big Ten and PAC 12 at the moment, but I would be on board with playing WVU and UVA twice each and winning all four.
That is exactly what the article outlines; Four home and homes in-conference and one home and home with SEC pairing.
But does it have to be SEC? Or can it just be someone regional whose conference will allow it?
Far easier to scrap together an agreement between 2 conferences with the time we have
Well it's not going to be the B1G or the Pac-12. So that leaves just the SEC and Big12.
I guess they could make deals with G5 schools, but how much are P5 schools going to be willing to pay a G5 school to have a mostly empty stadium? And will G5 schools be willing to take a pay cut and potentially lose money just to play a P5 team on the road?
Plus 4 ACC schools already have in-state rivalries with SEC schools which both sides would probably like to maintain, if possible.
And VT is dang close to UT... just sayin'.
Edit: Or for that matter, less than 5 hours to Columbia, SC. I mean, if the plan is to play 10 Regional games, I'd take the suck of Pitt and Cuse to play ND and either UT or SC (assuming UVa is the other game).
I mean, Athens, GA is also drivable.... VT has plenty of choices if the SEC and ACC are going to play driving distance crossover games.
What if we just put 12 games against UVA on the schedule, and beat 'em up so bad everyone forgets about last year? I'd prefer that over Syracuse, pitt, and BC haha...
We could have a single class get the streak back to where it was...
At the end do we do a four team playoff for the ACC title? I hope we get some type of cool postseason out of this.
My demands for fuente still stand, 10 wins or BUST!

He had a weird idea of fun.
You were the chosen one . gif
lol, football in 2020
BTW, they're missing out on a golden opportunity if the three pods aren't called the "Atlantic," the "Coastal," and the "Conference" Divisions
BIG LEAST back at it again, huh?
I personally want to play and beat up on UNC this year
Us being in the former Big East pod doesn't make sense. You've got Pitt Cuse BC Louisville and ND all similarly geographically located. Put us UVA UNC Duke and State in a pod. Crappy Wake goes down with Miami GT FSU and Clemson.
OR if you have to have Wake as a charter member, put us down south but send two teams from our pod to the 4-team ACC championship or whatever postseason they have in mind.
I wish they would just start planning the spring season. This is going to take entirely too much time to model out and then all get cancelled in 4-6 weeks.
There are a million reasons the spring season won't work for the traditionalists but its better than no football so bite the bullet and figure it out.
Can't seem to get away from playing Boston College! And as others have said, the ACC putting together most of the Big East back together again.
Eff that.
Didn't we join the ACC so we wouldn't have to play them forever? It's like being assigned group projects with your ex over and over.
I take it as forever evidence that the ACC will always see us as second-class members and treat us as such.
The pods seem quite geographical IMO. I like being with Clem, FSU, GT, Miami but with Louisville's team hailing mainly from FL and GA, its understandable how they'd fit well into that pod while we head north to play BC, Pitt, Cuse, ND. Say all that to say, we are 2nd rate ACC members, should have bolted for SEC bucks when we had the chance.
Apparently JMU is looking for an opponent since there conference cancelled games, they would be a good tune up and in VA so legal issues should not abound...
I'd like us to play Virginia. It's unacceptable for them to get to keep the Commonwealth Cup an extra year because of the coronavirus.
and yet, they'd be perfectly happy to do so. They'd even call it a two year streak of holding the cup. LOLUVa fans at work have been touting their two year reigning basketball championship ever since the tourney got canned.
ACC, SEC, BIG12 alliance?

Can you imagine if we get to beat UVA twice in one year? It would be glorious. It may be worth is just for that alone.
