Caleb Farley #11 on Bruce Feldman's 2020 Freaks List

Can't Link or quote since it's behind The Athletic's paywall, but I promise it's true!

For those who don't know, Bruce has been compiling a 'Freaks List,' listing the top 50 freakish athletes in college football, since the early 2000s, The goal is to "spotlight the guys who generate buzz inside their programs by displaying the type of rare physical abilities that wow even those folks who are used to observing gifted athletes every day."

Farley made the list due to his speed. Bruce mentioned that his GPS tracker hit 24.16 mph in the game against Notre Dame. That's pretty fucking fast.

I know this link isn't exhaustive, but this list of top speeds for NFL fastest ball Carriers says that's pretty damn fast even for the League.

Yeah I can't believe that Farley is faster than guys like Saquon or Cordarelle Patterson

There's a difference between is faster and can be faster. I'm sure that at one point, Farley clocked that speed, but I doubt it was sustained for any notable period of time.

I imagine that may have been 24mph peak split, not average during a play.

Yeeeeaah, he's damn fast, but probably not faster than Usain Bolt haha.

Has anyone clocked Bolt in full pads? 🤔

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

He has come a long way since his RS Freshman year. Pro prospect- great athlete.

The coaches saw it coming before he even set foot on campus.

Feel like providing the pertinent information as it applies to Virginia Tech isn't really fair to the publication. That's just my opinion, especially in articles like this one that Bruce Feldman does.

I don't have a subscription to the Athletic, so I might be wrong...but I feel like the OP gave a nice teaser but probably didn't ruin the article or take anything away from the value of it, by just saying Farley is on the list because he is fast. If anything, it seems like a nice plug for a publication he enjoys.

You know he's not just fast, he's tall too. But you gotta keep that our little secret.

Fair point

I went to read the article because of the post so I appreciated the heads up.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Yea, I think this is the type of press that The Athletic would want.

Farley is so fast he set my nose hairs on fire.

CB CALEB FARLEY, VIRGINIA TECH

Farley's speed is remarkable. He ran in the 4.3s in high school and is incredibly difficult to shake for an open target. Farley used his wheels and size to his advantage in 2019, proving to be the definition of a lockdown corner. He earned a 90.5 coverage grade on the year, allowing just 18 catches on 50 targets while combining for more interceptions (four) and forced incompletions (12) than first downs allowed (nine). You're just not going to find stingier production from a Power Five cornerback. As a result, Farley is in the driver's seat for our CB1 in the 2021 NFL Draft.

He has come a long way since being a jump ball WR specialist in the spring game.

I remember him consistently torching Facyson in that game. Facyson had to intentionally PI him at least twice. Buds overriding CJF's better judgment on the move to cb was beyond brilliant. I've always wondered how he would've turned out as a WR though.

Hmmm I don't know that that's quite how it went down
