The entire report from The Roanoke Times is here: http://www.roanoke.com/news/nrv/2428396-12/new-virginia-tech-president-t.... Relevant information is quoted below.
Virginia Tech's next president is scheduled to be announced after a board of visitors meeting set for 1 p.m. Friday in Blacksburg.
The board will meet at the Holtzman Alumni Center at the Inn at Virginia Tech to take up the appointment of a successor to President Charles Steger. A public vote is required to approve an employment contract for the new president.
A news conference will be held at the conclusion of that meeting in the Inn's Latham Ballroom, the university's press office announced this afternoon.
All details of the national search which began in June have been kept tightly controlled as a 22-member university committee, members of the board and a professional search firm recruited and vetted an undisclosed number of candidates. The search for Tech's 16th president began in June, shortly after Steger announced that he would step down when a replacement was named.

HAIL SKROOB!
I'm hoping it's going to be Dr. Boyer.
What the heck is that?
Why would you beat a sycamore with a wine bottle? and a shoe?
...it could be a London Planetree.....
Interesting theory but hardly realistic considering its migration tendacies and alternate climate ranges - my personal estimation is that its some type of mutation of a siberian white birch.
You are barking up the wrong tree if you think that's any kind of a birch.

its how to open a wine bottle!
I hope it's me!
Whomever it is, bring in a young AD. Being back stick it in and painted end zones. Those are the top three things on the new prez's agenda....
Right?
Grumblings I've heard is that it is might end up being an internal hire for AD and the leading candidate is John Ballein.
Same as I heard. It's looking to be in house.
They told me "a distinct lack of experience as an academic administrator," was the biggest reason I wasn't interviewed further.
My interview hardly focused on the position at all. They were all "Who are you?" and "How'd you get into my office?". They were very rude.
They told me "A current student cannot also be School President" I dont see why not. I have great perspective on everything. haha
No matter who is chosen, we all know that Stannis Baratheon is the one true and lawful
KingPresident of Virginia Tech.I feel VT is really lacking in the human sacrifice to the Lord of Light dept.
Shenanigans - Daenerys Targaryen is clearly the rightful heir.
I heard the new president was coming from Port Chester University
WE'RE NOT GONNA PROTEST
Meat tosser!!
Never wear the shirt of the band you are going to see. Don't be That Guy!
Way more than a hundred pounds...
Our new president is Leah Jamieson.
Dean of Enginering at Purdue.

Sounds like a great hire, especially with an emphasis of getting more women into the fields of science and engineering.
Source?
No written sources published yet I believe. I can't say where I got him from but I trust the source. I guess take it as 90% certain.
Interesting.
Strong engineering background-was Pres. of IEEE, Dean of Engineering at Purdue.
(Purdue has a great national/world rep in engineering/research)
There has been a little attrition at Purdue-wondering what's up there?
Could be a great thing.
IMHO, we need someone to help with branding, fund-raising, externals, etc.
She could be a good choice for this.
I wonder to what extent she will be involved with new AD pick?
This hire excites me on a lot of levels. I'm interested to hear more about her [outside of her wikipedia page] and what her vision is for the University.
I was rooting for Kirk Schulz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Schulz) because of his ties to the school/area but I like that we are going out of the VT family. Shows we really went after the best candidate, not just the best candidate, who happens to be a Hokie.
GO ENGINEERING
He was my hope, too. Especially because he would probably bring his AD (JohnCurrie) with him. Big time fundraiser.

Sources: Timothy Sands to be named Virginia Tech's new president
Welp, now seeing it might be Tim Sands. If so sorry for the wrong info. I guess I'll give credit to my source for at least getting the Purdue part right. Haha
Dave Teel reporting its Tim Sands from Purdue, not Jameison. http://www.purdue.edu/provost/about/provost.html
