Virginia Tech guard Andrew Miller was involved in an incident that occurred early Wednesday morning outside of a Blacksburg Bar.

According to Blacksburg Police Lt. Nathan O'Dell, police responded after an unidentified male subject was lying unconscious outside of Top of the Stairs in downtown Blacksburg. O'Dell equated the incident as being "kind of like the 'Knockout Game.'" The male subject was then taken to the hospital.

O'Dell confirmed that Miller was involved, but said that while the department is gathering information, no arrest was made and no charges have been filed at this point. The status of the second male subject is unknown

Kinda like the Knockout game but with the center of the VT football team? Either the other guy is really optomistic, or riding those rails

"But... but nobody told me that you could retaliate in the Knockout Game..."

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Blacksburg Police Lt. Nathan O'Dell probably has a bunch of interesting stories to tell his wife when he goes home for dinner. He seems to always be the responding officer to Hokie crime.

Wasn't he on the scene of the Airsoft pistol shootout, and the Michael Holmes brawl?

Leonard. Duh.

As a Police LT, he is probably the one tasked with speaking to the media, I don't think he is the one that is always the responding officer.

Yeah, ok. But still, he knows the scoop on ALL of it.

Leonard. Duh.

Yeah I don't doubt that. He was the lead recruiter when I was going through the interview process a month or so ago. Seems like a guy with a lot of stories to share.

I'm kind of picturing it went down something like this ...

So someone made fun of Andrew's mustache and then sh** got real...

So THAT'S what happens when someone talks crap about LT3 in front of Miller...

He got knocked the fuck out! LOL

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing he won that particular game?

Not to be the wet blanket here, but this is potentially a very serious issue. A person (student?) may be seriously injured and Miller may be in jeopardy of missing his last career game.

I'm reserving judgment until more facts are released - but making light of the situation makes me uncomfortable. All we know is:

ODell confirmed that Miller was involved, but said that while the department is gathering information, no arrest was made and no charges have been filed at this point.

I agree with you. A million different things could have happened.

Instinctively when I read someone got involved with the police at TOTS I assume both parties were drunk and there was an altercation. That's an incorrect assumption. For all we know Miller could have been sober and been horsing around with a friend who took a spill. Cops are perched outside of TOTS late night and they check on everything and anything happening outside.

Yes. This in no way is a good thing. Hopefully Alston Smith or Augie Conte is ready to step up if he is indicted. And, hopefully the injured party is isn't seriously hurt.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

That's not a lot of information. For all we know, he was the one that called the police and told them about the "knockout" game they were playing. That's enough to say "involved".

The "knockout game" bullshit has been a trend around where I live and it's fucked up. Anyone complicit in that kind of garbage needs to be severely hazed.

Edit: I would be really surprised to find out that Miller was doing something so cowardly.

Should probably clarify that my experience with the knockout game is that it is not consentual...

Its only a trend b/c news media assume anyone who got punched in the face must've been a victim of the game. He said it himself, kinda like the knockout game, but we are still gathering information. Sometimes people just get knocked out. Sometimes its a game and sometimes its "for Cause". You know how many people I have seen get knocked out in my five years in the Burg?

You know how many people I have seen get knocked out in my five years in the Burg?

I assume this is rhetorical, and I don't mean this to be sarcastic but how many?

No sweat. 1995 - 2000. Numerous. I worked at Wilco (progress and Main) and saw a girl knockout another girl straight up in front of the store. I had to call BPD and give a statement, even though I only saw the one punch and nothing else. Like what may have happened prior to that. The employees referred to that as Tyson vs Blood Green for a year.

Another time a friend of mine kept getting hard fouled in War Memorial. He told the guy, if you undercut me again, I'm gonna punch you in the face. The guy undercut him, and he punched him in the face, breaking his jaw. He got charged with malicious wounding and served three months of weekends in the Christiansburg Jail.

I saw a lot in my five years. And I stayed in Pritchard my freshman year when it was all male. I got even more stories from there.

Thanks for the share. I worked for Intramural Sports for 3 years and saw people knocked out from sports injuries but never from actual fighting/assault. Yeah I bet Pritchard was a whole other monster all together.

I got elbowed in the nose going for a rebound in War and almost got knocked out. It dropped me to my hands and knees. Ended up with a broken nose (in many places) and a giant pool of blood. This was in 2007-2008 school year.

The '97-'98 one my freshman year was EPIC

That was also my freshman year! I watched it from the top of the War Memorial Chapel and it was amazing. The corps would push forward, then the students and it would go back and forth. Then they started charging the chapel and that was my cue to get out of there.

The 2010 one was pretty good too - I wasn't a student, but was living/working in Blacksburg at the time. Me and a couple of buddies drove to the drillfield just to watch it.

Nice! Yeah i was in the VTCC and we were crazy out manned at the beginning and then when the dorms emptied it was on.

Was present. A lot went down. Was part of the antagonizing group following the corpsman from cassell.

Upvote for ol' school Pritchard.
My first semester being an RA there we had an arsonist lighting fires on my hall, about a half a dozen that spring. Oh the good times...

People were doing that in both Lee and Pritchard either my freshman or sophomore year. I think they were using the hand sanitizer dispensers for fuel.

Did they throw a soda machine off the top floor? It happened my freshman year and I heard that was "traditional". Pritchard when it was all male was insane. 4th floor wing was kinda isolated but still Pritchard.

If your freshman year was 1986, then yes...a soda machine was dropped off the top floor.

Twice. For good measure.

Please do not ask how I know this.

Leonard. Duh.

So you are the reason for the urban Legend. I ask NO questions!!! LOL!

Dad says it happened while he was living in Lee (it was dropped from Pritchard), I think in the '78-'80 timeframe. Apparently it crushed the bottom by about a foot, but still dispensed soda, so they kept it in the lobby for the rest of the year.

Ah, the Seven Layers of Players. Good and insane times. Rolly chair jousting was fun and a good way to have an excuse to take a test you didn't study for a few days later due to your concussion. That and the you didn't get lucky tonight Super Smash Brothers, Halo, and CoD sessions.

My year in Pritchard, some guys threw a couch out the 3rd story study lounge window. Needless to say, we weren't allowed in that lounge for the remainder of the year.

He's no good to me dead.

Dropped the bowling ball from the top floor of Lee. Did nothing but dent the lawn.

If it is a game that they both consensually agreed to play with each other, hard charges are not likely to be filed. Disturbing the peace - maybe... Assault - No.

I'm sorry im sorry but...what the heck is the knockout game?

Let's Go...

Basically it's where complete asshats going around punching random, unsuspecting people in the head in an attempt to knock them unconscious.

That is really disturbing.

@AMB4VT

Yep. Every time I see a news story about a victim turning the tables on an assailant, my soul smiles a little bit more.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

This is kind of surprising. Not claiming that I know him well, but I talked with him on a few occasions last year and he seemed like a good guy. He was also a bouncer so he obviously had experience with drunk people.

Is the 'report' that Miller was a 'Victim' in the knock out game, or the instigator? Hopefully the former.

TotS would actually be a reasonable place for some drunk moron to dare another drunk moron to play the knockout game against a starting FBS offensive lineman just to fail and get knocked out....

Yeah, if someone decided to punch that dude, it's time to find them a nice padded cell somewhere.

"I'll put a quote here to distract you from my inane comment."-Me

Phone call to CFB:

"I'm sorry coach...some idiot tried to knock me out at TotS, so I returned the favor."

I could see Miller just standing there, some idiot tries to hit him, and the punch recoils off of Miller's mustache and the kid knocked himself out.

"Exit light..."

I hope this doesn't end bad for him. I pray it was just self defense. He seems like the type of guy that wouldn't instigate something. He would literally be the last dude to mess with. Beast mode with a killer wrestling background.

There won't be any charges filed against Miller.

Everyone together now: WHEW!!!!

wow - maybe the Tallahassee PD could take a lesson on how long it takes to decide on whether or not to charge someone....

...too soon?

What do you mean?
They didn't charge him last winter and they continued to not charge him Thursday.

The only thing that changed was a reporter got ahold of the police report so, they needed to make it look like they considered all the options before conti hing to not charge him and declare it so the man could have his life back.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

The key point here is that the Miller case was investigated and closed almost immediately. Good quick efficient police work.

The Winston case wasn't closed until the media put a major spotlight on his year old police report. My question is the following - if there was no evidence of a crime when it took place, why wasn't it closed then? Did somebody in the police department and/or the DA's office just forget about the police report on the FSU star QB? Or did they just put it on the back-burner in hopes nobody would discover this little "issue" until after the season was over? Just looks like more of the same FSU nonsense to me.

Speaking of getting their life back, what about the girl? She quit school at the time this story was made public - how much of her life will she get back?

Yes, congrats to them with the Miller thing.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Because that's not how criminal investigations work. Just because one suspect doesn't match the description, has an alibi, etc doesn't mean you close the case and give up. Winston didn't match the description and the victim wasn't identifying him as the perpetrator so they didn't file charges. However, the real rapist was still out there so the case was left open and a year later a reporter wanted to drag Winston through the mud and brought it all up again. And on occasion newer evidence, or a witness finally talking, can cause someone who was previously cleared to be looked at again; as is the case here.

Miller's thing was very clear cut. It was assault and they knew he was there. They investigated and found out that they couldn't charge him for whatever reason so the case got closed.

This is going to sound callous, but what about her? She brought forth a false claim, likely hoping to get some attention and maybe a payday to keep her quiet, at the expense of dragging someone's name through the mud. Furthermore, every false rape claim makes people question the real ones. How many girls at FSU, and around the country, will be afraid to come forward with legitimate claims, thinking that they won't be believed because some other girl cried wolf? I have ZERO sympathy for Winston's accuser.

Tallahasse PD - So LAME a complete sham! If Seminoles were 2-8 do you think they would have pressed charges?

Stop it with the Negative Waves!

No. Charging someone with rape is nothing to be taken lightly. If there was sufficient evidence, he'd have been charged no matter how the team was doing. If it was a less serious crime, like shoplifting for example, then there might be some merit to allegations of impropriety by the police. But with any Crimes Against Persons, you can expect that it'll be handled professionally. Let's try and remember that the first source to report this was TMZ, and that no evidence of wrongdoing was brought forward. It was a sensationalist story designed to generate headlines, and if I'm Jameis Winston, I sue for defamation all over the place.
