This would be fantastic(al). The Replacements was a totally silly movie that I absolutely loved. It was the perfect counterpoint to a movie that came out the same time - Any Given Sunday - a movie which took itself way too seriously.
Shane Falco for the win!

You best be pouring out a lot more 40s, lot of mutants met their demise at the hand of the sentinels.
You mean in the opening scene of XMEN: Days of Future Past alone?
No i mean in all the comics. It got pretty nasty through the multiple series, which is why it got a full reset when Jonathan Hickman did House of X series.
So more so the comics than the movies.
I'm just looking forward to how generically terrible Washington will be in Madden this year now that the developers have scrubbed their current nickname and logos from the game.
Second worst sniper in Apex.
Upon seeing this, my mind immediately went to the indigenous people living on the North Sentinel Island in India.
My personal opinion: I think it comes down to Redtails and Redwolves.
I think someone on Reddit or Twitter pointed out that it may have been registered when XFL was looking into team names
It was registered back when XFL was thinking about it. The thing that sparked this rumor is that the domain name was just purchased now by the same company that owns all of the NFL team domains and nfl.com. Supposedly this company also registered DCArmada.com. I'll see if I can find the backup for this.
Yeah, that's what I had seen as well.
Better movie: The Replacements or Necessary Roughness?
I vote Replacements
I didn't read and thought you were voting for the name "Washington Replacements" lol
Roughness by better actors and cameos.
It means "runt of the litter." The rest of the men in my family are very large.
NR all the way, although Brooke Langton (Keaunu's love interest) is still a top 10 celebrity crush.
Hell Yeah
She was great in her brief role in Swingers.
huh... its been a while since I have seen either but I never realized that was the same actress. Olives FTW
Just name them the Washington Greenbacks and get it over. The logo is Washington from the $1 bill, and all the "important" people in DC care about is money and power.
Washington RedTape may also be appropriate /s
The Washington Allegations
The Washington Bombshells? [ducks]
What about the Swamp Things?
The mascot can be Rich Uncle Pennybags aka Mr. Monopoly
The Babylon Bee (satirical news site) came up with a pretty good option along these lines:
Redskins Change Name To 'Lizard People' To Better Represent Population Of Washington, D.C.
I like it
Washington Warthogs. Keep calling 'em the "Hogs" on the line. Logo can be an A-10.
edit - spelling of warthogs corrected.
Warhogs or Warthogs?
I'm assuming the latter, since its the A-10 Warthog.
I love the A-10, but not sure that would work well as a logo. Though a Warthog or Boar could work.
Warthog's suggestion was semi-serious. The A-10 for the logo, not so much.
For real, though, a side profile logo of a warthog head with a football helmet on it and the tusks shaped up to look like the facemask. Keep the same team colors. Even put a "'HOGS!" worked into the helmet logo to keep connection to the prior team name tradition.
Wasn't there a professional indoor soccer team called the Washington Warthogs? I feel like I used to see them periodically on HTS back in the day.
Yep, used to go to games in Landover, US Airways Arena? I think was the name of the stadium once. They used to do camp games over the summer, so our camp (it was really childcare, just put camp there to make it sound cool) got to go every year.
Yes... a number of my former Hokie soccer teammates from the early 90s used to play for them. (Eric McClellan, Tarik Walker, David Tenney, Mike Sloniewsky) It was fun to get to watch them play after their days at Tech.
What's your name?
It's VT KoolAid, duh!
Eric... assume its you based on HOF class. This is Terry Neumann. We played together in 92. Hope all is well.
If you can't call the Wash Bullets the Bullets then I doubt you can reference an A-10!
Folks, Dan Snyder is the owner. Look up his background. Washington Robocalls is the only appropriate name for them. The team whose performance makes them the team you want to hang up on.
Dan Snyder's record circa 2010
lol
I desperately want Washington Football Team Est. 1932 merch.
Savage!
Burn!
Live look inside of the offices of the Washington Football Team right now:

Dan Snyder as a child.

Hail to the WashingtonFootballTeam !
Hail victory!

Fight for old D.C!
At least it's a temporary name. Charlotte's MLS expansion team is just Charlotte Football Club.
Though I wish Washington went with Pat McAfee's suggestion, the Washington TBD's
that's pretty common for soccer teams, though.
I understand that, but most of those teams that go back a century or more. Plus they are playing in the same stadium as Charlotte's other football club...
I would've liked something a little less generic like Queen City F.C.
I'll also just admit by bias. I've grown up in the Raleigh area and thought that an MLS team would be a better fit and get more attention in the Triangle then Charlotte. Since the only other pro team is in the NHL.
I did notice they leaned into the CLT abbreviation pretty hard though which...
This guy gets it
Doesn't DC United already have that title?
Am I the only one who actually kinda likes that name & logo?
probably
The Washington Tax Thieves.

Per Tony Kornheiser - just put a potato on the helmet and stick with redskins. Solved.
So, Washington Spuds?
Your Washington Mighty Spuds!
Oddly enough this was announced at the same time as the new NHL franchise, the Seattle Kraken. Hopefully sponsored by the spiced rum
Washington FC!
DC FC
FC/DC
The suggestion I made when the trademark was revoked 6 years ago is still an option. Wouldn't you want to cheer for the Professional Football Team Formerly Known As The Redskins?
How about WARRIORS.
Keep the logo and trademark.
Problem solved.
There's already a big brand in professional sports that has the name Warriors. I'm a fan of the "Hogs" as an ode to the glory days. A lot of people support Redwolves, but I feel as if keeping "red" in the name is kind of lazy. Redtails could be cool though given the history there.
How about FC/DC and use the AC/DC style logo
There are a bunch of pro teams that share the same name. It's a non-issue.
But in most of those cases, the teams were in the same city at the time, and/or the name was developed over 100 years ago.
Branding and fear of brand confusion is a much bigger deal right now.
And then there's Auburn. Who is super unique by having a different mascot for ever sports team, but decided that Tigers were unique enough for football! /s
I just read an article where it was surmised that the name Redtails could open up another round of potential butthurt. Good grief. Is paying honor to anybody or any organization by representing them in sports really a slander? I do not understand the logic that wishes to pay tribute to collective group in competitive endeavors being considered a slander.
Well, that's what the Redskins supposedly did 80 years ago, and societal norms changed to the point that the name wasn't acceptable.
And based on how they keep hyping up "the next 100 years" in regards to a new name, the folks in charge of the rebrand would be wise to avoid any name that could place them in this same position.
Redskins has been derided because its a racial slur. It was a slur when it was originally chosen and the only change to societal norms that happened between then and now is that enough people started to point it out that it became a problem for them.
All this talk about 'honoring' Native Americans with the name is a joke. It was a slur. It only became an 'honor' because the name existed for 80 years and Snyder needed some kind of reason he could sell to keep the name as long as he did.
I agree with that. The alliterative "Washington Warriors" just sounds good.
"FORESKINS"
Not because it's funny or catchy but the fact that they have not had any of it in the game for years!
Washington Winging Its. Apparently.
The guy that sold the domain to WFT (without knowing it), donated the money to the American Indian College Fund.
I kind of wonder who else he thought could possibly have been buying that domain at this exact moment.

WFT - WTF I want a hat or shirt with this on it.
