To a dynamic running quarterback without our All ACC, potential first round draft pick cornerback on the field, it certainly wasn't out of the realm of possibility.
50 points is greater than 39.
If you want to argue the Kenfucky game, yes, Bud should have totally stopped that offense.

Trying to determine if that was intentional (makes perfect sense) or a well-placed ironic typo.
I did call ahead of time that we would give up at least 1 long touchdown pass in that game and, if we lost, GT-like blown coverage issues would play a key role.

I had the bad feeling about the UVa game. Watched less than half of it as, thankfully, we had some kind of family event that day. Might have been something with my daughter's swimming.
Thought we would win against Kentucky. In part because I bet on Kentucky to win. I always try and make a small bet against VT in bowl games because:
(1) our bowl record is not very good
(2) if we win, I am happy and don't care about the $5-$20
(3) if we lose, I'm bummed, but at least I get someone else to pay for lunch
(4) it is kind of making my financial sacrifice/attempt to the appease the evil football gods who make my team lose. Bet always must be straight up win or lose and never any point spread involved as if the other team is favored by 3 that would pretty much guarantee a 1 or 2 point loss.
But I did say to the coworker I bet with that if we lose, it will be because of long touchdown passes. Honestly expected more than if we were upset, but was close enough.

The beauty of this (and the Kentucky game) is that you're both right.
One dimensional offense that our defense could not stop alongside an offensive gameplan that was every bit as inept as coming out passing against Kansas in the second half of the 2008 Orange Bowl.

They were both unacceptable. UVA had a 3rd and long on the first set of downs of the game. Bryce Perkins was not throwing it on 3rd and long that early in the game. Everyone knew it was going to be in some form of a draw, probably a QB draw with Perkins. It almost looked like Perkins parted the sea with all the linebackers and safeties vacating the middle of the field. I knew at that moment that the offense was going to have to play very well for four quarters. Unfortunately, they only played well for 2.
VT's offense under Hooker is largely dependent on misdirection to the tight ends and the running game. That's all good and dandy except everyone—including the coaching staff— knew UVA had three weeks to prepare for it. Does everyone remember all the execution vs. good playcalling discussions we had during the 2018 season? Well, the issue was playcalling. The players did what they were coached to do, but it just didn't work because UVA sat on everything. The coaches should have come in with a different gameplan. Everyone knew UVA was depleted in the secondary. This really showed up in the second half when Tech scored 24 points. If that is the gameplan in the first half, Tech goes in up by two possessions most likely and probably runs away with it.

Breaking that "rock" is unbelievably lame but I don't hate them trying to make a big deal out of the game. It had been a while since the Hoos had any spirit to crush.

Hey, let them. They won last year. We did not. Don't have any business criticizing them, even if it is more than a bit silly. Just beat them and laugh at their foolish act then.

Growing up out in the country, we burned 9-12 cords of firewood every winter (3500 square foot house with two wood stoves). As a scrawny boy I learned how to swing an ax and then as a teenager I swung a 12 pound maul through almost every single piece of that wood... Every year...
And now I get to watch D-1 football players at LOLUVA swing an 8 or 10 pound sledge hammer in order to break a concrete paver?

Are these the same pavers they used on the sidewalk that the truck broke? Cause maybe they should start investing in more structurally sound materials?

We are their Super Bowl every year. It just so happens that we are usually the last game of the regular season, so every game leading up to it carries some meaning as they try to prepare for us. Losing to us in their first game of the season and ruining it before they have to play nine more games is going to be so satisfying. We need to blow these guys out of the water and not look back.

I'm more embarrassed that we lost to a team that does push-ups as weak as whatever they call those at the end of whatever it is I just watched because it was shot in 3D, with 360 degrees, from a GoPro mounted to an ant?

Can we please cast a concrete UVAnus logo (or whatever they are using these days), set it on the grass in front of burrus, then drop a piece of hokiestone from the top of the bell tower onto it? Though I guess printing it out of PLA would be more accurate to how I want the game to go this year

Boo. Bad topic. Link required.
Boo this man!
Yea but will Cornelson throw against said broken rock or try to run it into the teeth of their defense repeatedly?
I sort of agree dude but the L last year was definitely on the defense
Agree to disagree. We should have put up 50 on them running go routes with Turner, Hazelton and Robinson on their 3rd, 4th and 5th string corners.
Totally valid point. But should our defense have given up 39pts?

It was indeed intentional. I too had a bad feeling about the bowl game.
And I don't think I'll ever forgive Cornelson for the UVA debacle.

To be fair, the defense did only give up 33.

Oh yeah look at all the hype. The 360 view really captures the intensity of the moment where like 10 guys clapped and one guy even jumped.
Breaking that "rock" is unbelievably lame but I don't hate them trying to make a big deal out of the game. It had been a while since the Hoos had any spirit to crush.
Thanks for posting some of us are blocked for asking Mike London why he had a fake Commonwealth Cup made.
+1. I got blocked just for reacting with a laughing face at their Facebook post when they beat Bill&Mary.
Good lord that is pathetic
Nice fucking camera angle. I swear to god if we lose to these sissies again
That was another paver, wasn't it. If they had any balls they would get a block of Hokie Stone and break it.
UVA hammer budget isn't big enough.
Not only is it a paver again rather than a 'rock', but it appears to be pre-sectioned from whatever form it was made with.
It's basically the equivalent of snapping a Kit Kat with a sledgehammer.
I've literally dropped a paver from about 3 ft in the yard only to have it crack in half.
Did you think to paint "UVa" on it first?
If not, what a waste. Could have been the equivalent of a year's worth of UVa PR.

Man you gotta get a splitting ax. Only need that maul when there are too many knots to chop through.
Good exercise though, +1.
I suspect the main point of the maul was to build character. At least that's what my father would likely say.
Didn't we already do this thread?
I called OSHA. They were not wearing safety glasses!
Rumor is OSHA was involved initially, but when they saw that it wasn't a rock, they said no safety precautions needed to be made.

LOLUVA - what a bunch of A-holes.
they break a paver, we break them game one of 2020. Seems fair.
Rent free

No.
Stone by stone
We build this program back up
Fuck em, don't need to try to replicate their dumb baby shit.
Unlike them, we don't need gimmicks.
We just need to take the cup back on the field.
