Yeah, if this is a true fracture returning this season is highly unlikely.
A stress fracture, maybe could make it back at 6-8 weeks, but even then, as a WR having to plant, twist, and land on it would leave a high possibility to reaggravate it.
And that's assuming that this is just the fibula which is what most people refer to as an ankle fracture. If the tibia or any foot bones are involved, its a whole different story.
In any case, stinks for the team, even more so for the kid...hopeful for a less severe injury and a speedy recovery.

Bowick has been hurt as well. Idk how serious it is.
If Payoute broke his ankle that definitely hurts big time. I didn't expect him to be an instant impact guy, but I was hoping as the season wore on he would establish himself as the 3rd or 4th guy and the deep ball receiver.
However, in an attempt to be positive, bringing in Evan Fairs and Changa Hodge could prove to be an extremely wise move. With Bowick and Payoute struggling to stay healthy these two guys should provide us with a buffer for them to get healthy and step in more prominently next season or later this season.
Changa, from what I've read, seems to be a potential deep threat which gives us something similar to what we wanted from Payoute. If Fairs is a solid possession guy then that gives us another option. At this point we will just have to wait and see. Definitely an opportunity for Darryle Simmons and Kaleb Smith to establish themselves into the rotation as well. Mitchell and Blackshear flexed out wide and in the slot could ease the situation as well.

I feel bad for the kid as he was starting to get real experience to help him develop. I have heard he will be okay from injury as it was a clean break (not confirmed, so don't take this as 100%), but that the missing practice and now games is equally concerning for him to get a chance to reach his potential.
The only silver lining is the extra year of eligibility so if I am making the decisions the Hokies need to not push him on the field until he is 100% as his upside is still very high. Play the long game for the kids sake first and foremost and that is best for the program in this situation as well.

I've dealt with that twice in my years of mountain surveying and it's no fun, though not as serious of an injury as a broken ankle, obviously. Tough to heal from because you have to walk around, and I was able to work with a heel cup and a lot of care, but for an athlete, it can be stubborn to heal and painful enough to cause a drop in ability to function. I found it to be a "nagging" injury.

That is one of two injuries that would not heal on their own for me until I took physical therapy seriously. Hard part was spending 10 minutes stretching before you got out of bed - when you were getting out of bed at 3 in the morning to pee.

Plantar fasciitis is so annoying. From my experience, you mostly just have to deal with it until it disappears one day. The golf ball trick has never worked for me.

Lacrosse ball might work better for you as its bigger than a golf ball. Its what my wife uses. Also I know people that use the advanced racquetballs, not the blue ones, to soft, the purples ones.

Yep. It randomly got better for me. For my mom, it only got better after it finally tore after a few years with it. Her doctor said that a tear is usually the most likely thing to allow it to fully heal.

I've had it for 6 years. Collegiate XC &Track wrecked my body. Only way I can run now is with custom orthotics and and a plantar compression sleeve. Feels more like a disease than an injury since the healing process is so variable.

#Hokies WR Jaden Payoute has this on his Instagram page today. Rumblings of an ankle injury have been going around since Saturday's scrimmage. Fuente talks to reporters tomorrow. Hopefully will offer some clarity on the severity. pic.twitter.com/M36X73bgbOβ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) September 8, 2020

Nooooo. Looks that that means he's out 6 games at least? Should be back for Louisville or Liberty
Will Steward said out for the year, also said Simmons is out 4-6 weeks with an injury.

Man. I was really looking forward to seeing him this year. Heal up and get back at it next year young man!
Please say sike
Ouch
Wish him a safe and speedy recovery.
Even in a pandemic the injury bug still plagues us.
Hoping he can make a quick recovery and get back on the field soon.
FUCKKKKK
Dammit! Seriously?! WTF.
Reminds me of Farley tearing his ACL. Here is to hoping he makes a full recovery!
Shit. That fucking sucks, especially so early in his career.
I hope he's doing well and has a speedy recovery.
Maybe having three tiers of WR depth transfer this off season was a bad idea, in hindsight.
yeah, totally sucks we couldn't pick up any WR's in the portal ourselves.
Fairs, Bowick and Nova guy hopefully can pick up the slack
Is Bowick healthy?

in other news, this news sucks
Said it at the time...
This is like the Farley injury news his freshman year. Deflating.
Somehow I feel like the NCAA is responsible.
Hopefully we'll make an appeal and they'll have his ankle approved to play by week 1.
Why do I feel that they won't waive his injury?
Injury occurred just a few miles outside the approved radius. Someone call SVP
2020...It was the worst of times, it was the worst of times...

No extra year of eligibility. This year already didn't count against players.
Not counting against the players = extra year of eligibility. That's my point
Caleb Farley could really boost his draft status by getting some college reps at WR
Also read that tre has planter fascitis...

The doc gave me some pills and it was gone in a few days. I have forgotten what it was.

Yeah, I dealt with a pretty bad stretch back when I was heavy into distance running. Those first few steps in the morning are pure hell.
Distance running is what got me as well. I switched to the Hoka Cliftons and haven't had any trouble since then.
Yep. It randomly got better for me. For my mom, it only got better after it finally tore after a few years with it. Her doctor said that a tear is usually the most likely thing to allow it to fully heal.

Dammit you guys, I go on vacation for a week, and this is what I come back to??
