Guess Miami didn't show them enough last night.
Miami looked pedestrian last night. They struggled for a good portion of the game vs UAB.
The ended up putting almost 500 yards against one of the best G5 defenses last season. Their DC David Reeves has been a very popular candidate for P5 jobs (including ours).
I wasn't blown away, but I think it's way too early to jump to conclusions about any team after game 1 given the odd build up to this season. Preseason practices have never been this disjointed and inconsistent.
Their running numbers looked very good at the end of the game for sure.
337 yards against at team that gave up a smidge over 100 per game last year is pretty solid.
Watching the game Miami looked worse than the numbers. Their passing looked bad, i was really surprised when i saw the numbers this morning.
The running game was a bunch of QB scrambles and almost tackles by UAB. Had UAB been half a step faster the game is different, those broken arm tackles become tackles.
I can't tell how much of their success was more depth/talent and how many of their errors were rust. But i feel like their run game could be pretty good and their passing might be pretty bad.
I also think that if UAB didn't kill themselves with so many pre-snap penalties, things could have been different. At least closer stat/score-wise
Yes it was hard to tell, but so many times the runner got touched in a spot that would be little to no gain only to break a weak arm tackle and get 10+ more yards.
Either way, you need to worry about containing King in the pocket.
That's what I saw too. Miami wore them down with better talent but I think if Miami had played a P5 team last night, the outcome would have been very different.
I only saw the roughly 25 minute game highlight video, but their running back, Cam'Ron Harris, was a beast, breaking tackles and weaving through their defensive line and secondary. Their quarterback seemed to miss a lot of open receivers down field but connected on the swing passes and shorter routes. When he ran with the ball on called plays or when the called play broke down, he also broke numerous tackles. I hope our guys finish their tackles or it could be a long night.

I said it on here before but I am probably going to up and ready to smoke meat, drink, and "homegate" at 9am just like I would be if I was in Lot 18 for this game. This is going to be an all day thing. Might even get Zoom going with the whole crew.
I actually just bought regular Coors before Labor Day Weekend, for the first time in years. Back when I was a school Coors and Michelob were the high end beers as opposed to things like Milwaukee's Best and Natty-Bo. Just had a blast of nostalgia for the good old days.

I'd give it a half step up from The Beast. Both technically beer...but now that I'm all grown up I haven't touched Milwaukee's Best since I was roaming campus and the streets of Blacksburg as a student.

No way to know how many tested positive and how many were held out due to contact tracing, but no matter how you slice it the comments from yesterday aren't good.

... yes? Absolutely? What answer are you looking for here? Otherwise, you have person A who infected persons B and C, and if they continue to participate in practice and whatnot they have 2-3 days between tests to infect persons D, E, F, and G, who would then have 2-3 days between tests to infect more people. That is how you get exponential growth.
Hey Barber, Hoover students just returned to campus. If you want to pat Bronco Billy on the back, give it two weeks and see how many positives/contact traced players they have out for practices.

I was hoping that we would at least get this game in, the way things are trending I'm doubtful we play any games this fall. Covid numbers at tech are rising rapidly, uva just moved back to campus a week ago, so their numbers will start to rise also. With having to quarantine for contact tracing it will be tough to field a team any given week.
Yea it's starting to look like a bubble would have been the best option if we wanted to play but that option was never possible due the current definition of student-athlete

Actually works out. I had agreed to a gig at Primland before the game was scheduled. Hate not getting to watch the game, but the outcome is pretty decent.
