Just saw the end of the Pitt-NC State game. NC State came from a score back and beat Pitt in the waning seconds, NC State used a different QB, but it makes our win look a bit better and Narduzzi took a loss. It is a great way to start the day.

Uninspired offense would be an improvement. I would just abandon the passing game if we are going to go 3 and out any way. Grind it out and give the D some rest, and maybe open some passing lanes while we are at it.
I am disappointed in the offense. The defense is depleted and I feel like it's only a matter of time before they break. We really needed the offense to step up and cover for the defense today.

Burmeister hasn't thrown a lot of balls today that I thought were super bad, maybe the throw into double coverage. Receivers aren't catching the ball and get shake the coverage today. And our gameplan has been wtf until the last drive. We can't always clamor for the other QB when the game gets tough.

I want to give big props to the defense as well. They have controlled this game. Two true freshmen starting in the secondary and a walk on. Pass rush has been really solid so far. Big props to Belmar as well. Hopefully his form continues.

I'm not throwing in the towel on BB yet. He's had a couple bad throws, the overthrow to Blackshear was horrendous, but I think the gameplan to start the game was terrible. Receivers have been pretty poor today, so many drops and just no separation. Playcalling kept wanting to throw deep to the outside, which isn't BB's strength but he didn't put the ball in a bad spot. We just got away from the run and finally started to get back in a rhythm there at the end. I think we just need to forget about the 1st half and come back out and get back to basics.
Defensively, wow what can you say. Very impressive coaching job and effort from our backups today.

That's why I don't get going all the way to the sideline. It doesn't take much to step out, or getting a tiny nudge that carries you out of bounds. Why not 2-3 yards away, not right along. Ugh
geometry. you want to force your pursuer to take the worst possible angle in pursuing you. You do that by making him take the widest angle, you do that by making him cross the largest lateral distance. Hence going as far as you can to the edge.
And stepping out of bounds, regardless of geometry.
Edit: just stop short of the sideline by about a yard then you get the benefit of geometry without the risk of stepping on the sideline.
Then he just would have been tackled there.
I mean cut up the field a yard in from the sideline, same trajectory he took, just not all the way to the sideline, and force the guy to tackle you. He would have made it past the 16 even if he had been tackled if he hadn't stepped out of bounds.

I am pretty sure one of the coaches told him where to be and they did that based on what the punter has done in the past. Did Duke put in a different punter than they have used in previous games this year? Or, has he recovered from an injury? I'm not saying it is or isn't bad coaching, just that it a lot harder to do it right than to complain in hindsight.
I love this new defense. We can give up a first down, but we keep the play in front of us. Very solid play. I don't feel like anyone is just out there freelancing.

the idea, being down by 10, was to kick the field goal, recover an onside kick, and hail mary a touchdown pass. if you do the touchdown first there's not enough time to recover an onside kick then run several plays to get into field goal range for the tie. what they were trying to do was a one-in-a-million chance anyway.
