Maybe I'm misunderstanding. I thought he was sarcastically saying you hate to see them getting COVID. I was unsarcastifying it and saying I don't hate seeing them get it given Bronco being such an ass about it. Did I miss his meaning?

I don't either. The only reason I don't hate it is because of how the LOLUVA coaches took shots about us and our team not wanting to play and whatever else they said. Also, it's LOLUVA. I hope they get it, but get better.

Their O line coach is a tool. Someone should tweet at him when he gets replaced and ask him if he didn't show enough discipline. He is the cliche' of a coach who has a myopic perspective.

Fine - I only want the most morally reprehensible player to get it and the rest of the team have to sit out due to contact tracing. Also the O-line coach and Bronco should get it. Then they can all get better. Or maybe it can rotate through the O-line coach and the team have to sit out for another 2 weeks, then Bronco gets it and the team is out another 2 weeks, and we play them and beat them 55 - 3.

Not sure if you are responding to me, but I don't want anyone to get it as I don't want to stoop to his level.
I just want people to get the perspective that the Getting the virus is NOT some indictment or lack of commitment, discipline or work ethic. His tweet tried to use that as a differentiating tool which is foolish and ignorant,

Ryan Nelson and Charles Snowden were complete assholes about it on Twitter. I don't want anyone to get it, and it's not a knock on anyone's character if they do. It is a knock on someone's character when they judge someone else for getting it.

TheSabre is ridiculous. They are still saying "This is why we shouldn't judge anyone other than Tech". And something about us being a different "ignorant nant breed down there".

Who gives a shit what those mouth breathers have to say. We are 2-0, they are about to get steamrolled and someone will have to pick pieces of them off the turf in Death Valley tomorrow.

Said UVA was feeling good about themselves and broke a rock for not having COVID, then 7 team members are out. Got feeling too good about themselves...sometimes when your bragging it goes the wrong way for you...

Mark Richt should spend more time trying to complete full sentences on camera and less time taking shots at support personnel who had a really cool moment when her team thought to give her a huge honor. What a horrible take.β Brad Franklin (@Cavs_Corner) October 3, 2020
Richt didn't even say anything about any staffer- he said they broke a "Covid-free" rock, and then turn around and had 7 people catch it a week later; made a point to say don't get overconfident about these things.

The schadenfreude is gonna be delicious if the coach that's out ends up being that OL coach clown who had Twitter fingers the week we postponed the game.

I still don't know how there could only be 7 players out with contract tracing protocols. Sometimes I feel like VT is the only one quarantining for contract tracing.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't think contact tracing is our current problem. That's easy to game, team wise. Don't let guys be around each other more than 14 mins. Stay 6' apart inside. You can have contact tracing problems with roommates and girlfriends but teammates shouldn't be a problem. If it is, you are running your program like idiots.
Our problem this week is more positives. We have well over half the team positive now. Maybe 75%. And those guys who missed today tested positive Wed, so their 10th day is Saturday. So they likely won't be available for unc.
Why do we have so many positives? Well, our mask wearing is much less than most teams you see. Fuente wears a mask on the sideline but takes it off in the locker room. It just seems like a loose culture. Those ever present face shields are generally representative of people trying to comply not control the virus.

I must be misunderstanding your comment. When you say "We have well over half the team positive now. Maybe 75%.", that suggests between 55-85 players (including walk-ons) are currently positive. That's absurd.

"A student-athlete identified through contact tracing and required to quarantine for 14 days must complete the full quarantine before returning to activity."
"a student-athlete who tests positive for COVID-19 shall be isolated for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms/positive test..."
"A student-athlete who has tested positive is not subject to weekly pre-competition testing for a period of 90 days from the date of the positive test unless the student-athlete exhibits symptoms consistent with COVID-19."

I was talking to a neighbor (family is a VT family) who works in the covid unit at UVA hospital. I asked her who had more patients, the covid unit or our football team. I got the impression it was a close call.
She also said that she finds it very odd that very few other teams have so few players out, primarily due to contact tracing. Not that anyone would sweep that under the rug or anything.

A thousand time this. FSU's head coach tested positive, but my understanding is that no one else missed their game that week, though you wouldn't know it from the score. The head coach didn't expose even one other person? That's insane.
Someone on here mentioned that Baylor or WVU (one of the teams in that game, I forget which) had one player test positive and that player was the only person out. That player didn't expose even one other person? That does not make any sense to me. How could you be part of a team and be completely isolated from anyone else on the team before you tested positive?
If teams really are doing the whole "only let the players be around each for 14 minutes instead of 15" thing to intentionally avoid contact tracing protocols, then they are trying to game a system meant to protect public health and are putting the health of their team at risk. It's ridiculous.

To me head coach should be the easiest to avoid, he doesn't need to be hands on with the players and can distance from everyone through out the week, however watching how these coaches work on the sidelines I doubt that is happening at all.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I agree that a coach could theoretically avoid direct contact with people on the team, but that doesn't seem to be the way coaches operate. My understanding is that most coaches are control freaks who need to put their hands on every piece of the program, both figuratively and literally, at times. The idea the Mike Norvell was avoiding contact with literally anyone else on the team before he tested positive out of pure caution seems unlikely to me. I obviously don't know for sure of course, but that's just my feeling.

Also, I haven't found out who the LOLUVA asst. coach was that was out, but watching their game Saturday night, you can see some of the coaches that were there. Poppinga (OC) was there. Saw Haggins there. I think I saw their DC there (not sure because of the mask). Was likely one of the coaches in the booth, who wouldn't have been visible normally anyway. OL coach is one of those. Not sure how they split the booth/field responsibilities. In true LOLUVA fashion, they declined to list any players or coaches that were out. If they have issues later on with starters, it's gonna be hard to hide. It's kind of amazing how little the announcers mentioned the players/coaches who were out on the broadcast. I guess I shouldn't expect too much from the ACCN, but just a little reporting, please?!

Guess they dont want it
Damn, I thought UVA players and coaches were taking this thing seriously? I thought they wanted to play football?
If I didn't know any better...I'd almost begin to think they didn't shit gold or sweat perfection.
Ya just hate to see it
Not really.
yes you do
Maybe I'm misunderstanding. I thought he was sarcastically saying you hate to see them getting COVID. I was unsarcastifying it and saying I don't hate seeing them get it given Bronco being such an ass about it. Did I miss his meaning?
I mean, I kinda don't want their players to get COVID. I don't want anyone to get COVID for the most part.
I don't either. The only reason I don't hate it is because of how the LOLUVA coaches took shots about us and our team not wanting to play and whatever else they said. Also, it's LOLUVA. I hope they get it, but get better.

Who gives a shit what those mouth breathers have to say. We are 2-0, they are about to get steamrolled and someone will have to pick pieces of them off the turf in Death Valley tomorrow.
How can you even find it with how awful the layout on that website is (was? I doubt they updated it though)
It's bad but not unreadable on mobile.
TheSabre can go fuck themselves.
They would if they could but they can't. That is why it is a huge circle jerk over there.
something something hard things together
That's the only reason I wanted that game early... blow those ass clowns out and let them go back to their hole.
Richt just crushed UVA on the huddle!!!
Said UVA was feeling good about themselves and broke a rock for not having COVID, then 7 team members are out. Got feeling too good about themselves...sometimes when your bragging it goes the wrong way for you...
I laughed out loud at the shade he was throwing, it was fantastic
What'd he say?
Richt didn't even say anything about any staffer- he said they broke a "Covid-free" rock, and then turn around and had 7 people catch it a week later; made a point to say don't get overconfident about these things.
Talk stupid trash win stupid prizes
And Brad Franklin is an idiot.
Couldn't find the Richt comment directly.
Brad certainly came across as adept at figuring out the victim angle and milking the hell out of it.
He's no Ben Franklin for sure
His arts and crafts are shit
Brad didn't grasp the arrogance of claiming victory against COVID in week 2 of the season, while other teams are struggling with infections.
While I agree that health care workers are worthy of recognition, I think the messaging was a bit tone deaf.
And breaking a paver for whatever reason is lame as fuck
They just don't want it badly enough.
Yes, I know it's been said already, but it deserved repeating.
It's simple UVA. Do what you gotta do and something something something
They're doing hard things together.
Hahahahahahaha
I Don't care to be the bigger man.
One wonders who the asst. coach that's out is. If it's their OL coach.....well, lets just say karma.....ya know?
Anybody got a collection of those tweets from the assistant coaches and players? For research?
I just glanced at the Sabre to see what the Wahoos were saying about the whole thing....
"Not any starters, so glad we have discipline..." "So much discipline and class with this group that no starters are affected..."
Blah Blah Blah
COVID will get them later in the season.
COVID never sleeps.
The schadenfreude is gonna be delicious if the coach that's out ends up being that OL coach clown who had Twitter fingers the week we postponed the game.
I am here to wish everyone affected a speedy recovery!
Also here to say other than that, FUCK UVA!!
Too bad the players are out this week instead of last. Not gonna be able to tell the difference this game.
They'll probably have more out next week.
I wanna see the town covid impact list this week......
Uva used all 3 1st half timeouts in the 1st qtr. Lets see them blame THAT on covid. Losers...
Well you can't take them with you.
#DisciplineEqualsFreedom
The O line coach might want to focus on helping their QB - who is NOT good
You better watch yourself, that is Steve Young you are talking about
I still don't know how there could only be 7 players out with contract tracing protocols. Sometimes I feel like VT is the only one quarantining for contract tracing.
They might be, but it seems to be the right thing to do.
NFL teams are starting to struggle now.

You have to be in contact tracing for 14 days whether you get a negative or positive test.
The players are not in a bubble. This means the rest of the student population has to follow protocols too.
Right now, I'm just thankful we are keeping stadium capacity down. Watching the Georgia game last night gave me a lot of anxiety.
What? "We have well over half the team positive now" where are you getting your information. This seems highly speculative and unlikely.
It's not.
I must be misunderstanding your comment. When you say "We have well over half the team positive now. Maybe 75%.", that suggests between 55-85 players (including walk-ons) are currently positive. That's absurd.
The good news is that you don't have to take a test for 90 days once you test positive. So we are getting over the hump.
Who is telling you this?
It's from the updated ACC medical advisor group report:
https://theacc.com/documents/2020/8/28//Report_of_ACC_MAG_8_28_20.pdf?id=1175
Here are three important excerpts:
Thank you!

When we've had 20+ out for multiple games, another team missing 7 players against Clemson is barely a blip.
Their numbers are likely to rise based on their timeline
Doesn't that depend on how they do contact tracing? I'm thinking that someone should take a look at who is making those decisions...
That is a picture of the LSU staff right?
