How are there not more comments on this? That highlight tape was ridiculous. I had to re-watch at least 5 different plays. Check out the two runs 4:21 - 4:48. Also 2:08 is pretty sick.
I love the YAC, he follows blockers well, then he destroys the secondary with power running, shifty moves and stiff arms. The only thing he might lack is elite speed but then he would have 30+ offers. Having watched his sophomore and junior tape you can actually see how he improved every single year. I expect he will improve his speed at Tech and it's not like he's slow now.
In a few years he will be running behind Grimes' fab 5 o-line with either Hodges or Ford under center, not to mention the wide receivers we are pulling right now. I actually see a bright future for our offense. Plus he loves Virginia Tech and has the nickname Juice. What more could we ask for?

I feel bad for opposing defenses in the future having to deal with the strength of Edmunds, Sam Rogers, and Marshawn. Sunday mornings are going to be extremely painful for opposing teams linebackers.

Lack of top-end speed does put a ceiling on his potential, but he should be very productive as a back. Will almost certainly compete for a starting spot right away. If Edmunds comes back healthy and ready to roll next season, I wonder how much we'll see of JC moving forward.

You have to be able to pull away when given a seam. Otherwise defenses can sit with two deep safeties against the run and just wait for someone up front to beat their block to put the offense behind the chains. Or worse, wait for a holding call.
Without the threat of a home run, the defense has less incentive to react strongly to their run keys... hurting the play action game.

Alfred Morris of the skins is a good example to use. He doesn't have break away speed, but no one can bring the kid down. Takes 2 or 3 guys to get him down. I think MW will be just that at Vt :)

Hmm interesting. Thanks for putting this here. I'm still confused as to why NFL teams don't go for it on 4th down every time past the 50 and do only on sides kicks? Thought those strategies were statistically advantageous, too.

An onsides kick is only statistically advantageous if the receiving team isn't expecting it. Going one every time would remove the most critical aspect, which is surprise.

I love JC, but the more I see of him the less explosive he seems. Hopefully he gets healthy this offseason and comes back in the spring/summer a step quicker. If not, I can't help but think that the Hokie offense could be more productive having someone else featured as the change-up back.

Mark Ingram didn't have elite top end speed, either, but he was ridiculously good at one thing that every football team wants to do very well. I like this kid.

Wow!!!! Powerful!!! Unbelievable!!! haven't seen any running back prospect like him since I started following our recruiting about 5 years ago. Looks like a Bama running back recruit. I have guys at work show me highlights of Bama's recruits here and there. They all look like this. It looks unfair for opponents. I am really really impressed with this recruit. He doesn't quit. Makes the first guy miss. plows through the second and it is up to the third, fourth and fifth guy to work together to bring him down, if they don't then touch down!!! I am excited to see him play.

This kid has a lot going for him. Drive and a love for HN is one, that'll get you a long way motivationally.
His hip moves that make a tackler slide off are fantastic.
I am very impressed with the balance and footwork that let's him make those big lateral movements while going downfield.
I also note his HB is good at making key blocks.

I particularly like his vision of the field. When he was running down the sideline, and JUST as the defender got to him, turned in to the field to make the defender completely miss him, even though the defender had a great angle on him. He used that angle against the defender and made the defender overrun him. Now THAT's a smart RB.
He looks like the kind of RB that could take it to the house any time he touches the ball. That's the kind of threat we need.
