From the "what could have been" files, if you guys check out OU-Iowa State tonight you will see former VT target DE Jaquan Bailey (6-2 261, #3) playing for the Cyclones. He became their all-time sack leader earlier this season. Would have been a nice snag out of Jacksonville, but we lost out on him at the 11th hour as he and his brother opted to play together in Ames.

Generally speaking, I hate the targeting rule. That one was kind of clear though, launch, lowered crown and hit Pickett in the head. It's what they're trying to get out of the game. I think the play is disrupted with a regular shoulder to the numbers hit, but maybe not pick 6 interrupted, so I agree with you to some extent there.

That one was as easy of a targeting call as the refs are going to get. I think if he hits him in the chest, he still disrupts the throw. He threw late, across his body. It wasn't going to be a completion regardless.

As much as I hate to admit it, Bronco is doing a heluva job at UVA. They still don't have upper level ACC talent, but they play a gritty, fundamental brand of football.

I definitely feel bad for defensive players in that position. He didn't launch himself like a missile, and and he led with the shoulder. The ball was in play on an important down and he went to break up the pass. I understand why it's a penalty but I don't think it should always be an ejection.

I will give UVA credit - Anae is great at making adjustments and exploiting weaknesses that they pick up on throughout the game. I will say that our offense at times feels scripted or like we are pulling shit out of a hat.

I don't know if UVA is decent this year or if the Clemson D-line is just not that great. It seems like they're having a hard time getting penetration and the UVA O-line is doing a good job opening up lanes.

I'm not sure this is an off night this season for them. Huge drop off out wide with no Higgins or Ross, but they've gotten better at the interior passing game. They replaced 4/5 OL this season as well.
This is the first team they've played that didn't completely lay down so far. We will have a better idea of what their offense is next week.

It's early, but it certainly looks like the Hokies, short on personnel, coaches and practice, handled a decent NCSU squad last week.
I remain unconvinced, but I am also unconvinced of Pitt. I think Leary is a substantial upgrade over Hockman as well.
