At least the VT logo on that helmet was orange. This one is maroon.

Pretty cool look. However, this was hyped up a bit much by some on Twitter/other message boards, almost like it was a special or one-off uniform. It's components of uniforms we have seen before. Cool look for sure, but got a little unnecessarily hyped I think.

We did wear those sick orange jerseys a couple years back when we annihilated them in Lake. If we can harness some of that mojo I'm all for it.

But yeah the first thing I thought of was that Wake game

I hate the orange pants. They're ugly, and our play when we wear them is even worse. These should have been burned in effigy after the Wake game and school bylaws should have banished them, punishable by death.

I am 99% sure that the uniform does not affect quality of play.

I am 1% sure it can be the worst kind of jinx.

I'm just glad that it's October 8th and our biggest gripe so far (to some of y'all) is the color of pants we're wearing!

The maroon VT on the helmet is a much sharper look. No stripe on the pants is better too.

How many players on the roster were around for the Wake debacle in this uniform combo? Probably zero. And how many coaches? Probably zero. So the team has no memory for this, therefore the superstition does not carry over. I'll allow it. If we were wearing the same unis as the day we lost to ODU, I'd have a complaint as the team and coaches were a part of that awful day. But in this case, I declare this to be okay.

Have we worn orange jerseys since the ODU loss?

Tyrell Smith was close. He enrolled in a prep school for the fall of 2014 before beginning at VT in January of 2015.

And we haven't. I'd have to think we'll be wearing some for the orange effect. Clark Ruhland said on Twitter that orange helmets aren't part of the rotation this year, so we're going to have to wear orange on another piece of the uniform to make it an orange effect I feel like.

I do love me the orange pants. Saw us go maroon helmet, white jersey, orange pants at Duke some years back, and the orange really pops in person.
