Moving to Myrtle Beach area.

We are looking at moving to the Pawleys Island/Myrtle Beach area middle of next year. Can anyone point to local Hokie groups or game day spots? Also I can not seem to find a SC VT license plate, anyone thought about getting one designed and done?

The license plate thing is done through the state and I think it has to be ...recommended maybe?

Not sure, but when I lived in WV I think it was in the process of getting done.

Also, any bar you walk into with tech gear is therefore forever a Hokie bar.

Also I hate Clemson.

The State of West Virginia is allowing a VT Plate?! Also, I agree Clemson is absolutely enemy numero uno right now!

Plenty of us Hokies across the border. WV through and through so I grew up, and still am, a Marshall fan and chose to go to tech undergrad. I'm trying to get the WV VT plate with herd4vt

I have lived in SC for 10 years... They tried to petition for a VT plate a while back and I am fairly sure they did not get the interest needed to get the ball rolling.

Seems like every college from FL to NC has a plate there. Really needs to be a VT plate. Moving from Columbus Ohio to somewhere in the South to get away from these OSU fans can not happen soon enough.

Ummmm....hate to tell you, but Myrtle Beach is like Columbus, Ohio-south.
At one point the #1 commercial flight demand was a one-way from Columbus to Myrtle Beach.

However, the good news is that if you go south to Surfside/Garden City to Mount Pleasant, there are plenty of good locals that populate the area. Or, if you can move inland a bit, but what's the point?

(Little known secret: South Carolina developed MB as a magnet to attract tourists and keep them out of the other areas.)

Moving to Murrells Inlet/Pawleys but most people just think it's part of Myrtle Beach and have never heard of it.

Awesome for you.
Check out the Hot Fish Club on the inlet-great food early, and usually some great bands and crowd later.
Or for a little more upscale, go to Frank's in Pawley's.
That area going south on 17 is a great place to be.

When we were down had Franks it was great.

I have family in the Pawley's Island, Litchfield, Surfside SC area (one of which is a fire fighter). It is a wonderful place to live.

Can't help with the Hokie spot thing. The Brick in Charleston, SC was a very popular Hokie spot before the fire last year. The whole place was filled with Hokie memorabilia and is owned by a Hokie. I think they are trying to rebuild, but I haven't heard any updates in a while.

Just find out where Bruce Taylor or Brandon Frye hang out when they are in town. I'd say that would make it a Hokie spot.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I'm from South Carolina. They do not make VT license plates as my family tried to get one when we first moved down there. Also, get ready to be thrown into the middle of one of the most obnoxious fan bases in the country in Clemson.

They messed up when they came down 81.

Whenever I encounter an obnoxious Clemson fan around Richmond, I leave them with the remark, "Gamecocks just scored again."

You better believe they'd give up some (if not all) of their recent wins against us, to not have such a big losing streak against South Carolina.

Gamecock fans would always tell Clemson fans to "fear the thumb". It riled them up so much. Next time you see a Clemson fan feel free to say West Virginia scored again, or my personal favorite "Jameis Winston is still being investigated for what he did to ya'll".

They messed up when they came down 81.

So I called the SC DMV and they informed me there is a process to get one, have to have a group of some kind request it and pay around 6,000 to get them started. They also need SC legislative approval. So my first task upon moving to SC is find a group of Hokies to get this done. No reason that FSU, NCST,Ohio State, Bama, UNC, APP State and GT have one but not VT.

Check into your local branches of the VT alum assoc. You should be good to go. I should call around in PA to see if there is one here.

Two problems with that I've found, 1) not an alumni (went to VCU) 2) despite being listed on the VT website for alumni groups they are not active. Which is really a shame having lived in two cities with supposed alumni groups but finding nothing made living with all these Buckeye fans much worse.

Moving to MB? Who gives a fuck!? Nah, j/m and sarcastica. Love that place (minus all the dipshit Klempsun "fans"). Be a pain in their ass if you can.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

I saw a lot of VT fans when I was in Charleston (which isn't far from Myrtle technically) on a Saturday in fall a few years back. I go to Myrtle Beach nearly twice a year and the South Carolina fans there definitely over-power the Clemson ones, in my opinion.

I love the state of South Carolina and it's my dream to move to the Charleston/Mount Pleasant area someday. They better get the ball rolling on the VT license plate!

Also, if you like Mexican food, Burro Loco in Myrtle Beach is my favorite! (Across from Broadway at the Beach) Ugh, I'm so upset because I'm craving it.
