New year and I can almost smell the fumes.
Adjusted aero package for the short tracks and road courses.

I'm ready to go racing!
its been a tradition, one I haven't missed in sometime. but I might this year. :( I think ill have a 7on7 tournament that weekend and not be able to make it.
Dale Junior anagrams to Joe Lunardi
Don't forget about the 24 next weekend!
We leave tomorrow morning. Who else is going?
I'm all checked in and ready to go!
Can't do Daytona but I am excited for the season and KB1 in particular but I will be going to Charlotte and Richmond. May try to get to Darlington as well. I am in the 757 so those are easy runs.
Daughter's boyfriend shit in his mess kit...going to the truck race Friday nite.
Leaving in the AM and setting the road on fire. Me and my dad are gonna see every race we possibly can, starting with the Duels tomorrow. Puuuuummmpppeeddddd!!!
Us too. All of them!
Got another 5hrs. This ride sucks. Spent all of yesterday in airports and cramped planes...this is a little better, I suppose.
Amateur Pattty
Rain
OK I read this thread title and said alright some discussion of the Ponies. Hard to believe I grew up in the South isn't it?
Hello there!
We back at it!

That was awesome!
Both races were great from our viewpoint! Not sure where our seats will be the next three days....will update as I can. Hopefully we can run into yall in the stands.
If you ain't first you're last!
ill be there sunday morning! whooooo!!!! (wasn't sure if I would make it this year) you guys tailgating? lets get together and shot gun a few brews before the green flag drop and the sky falls out on me like it does EVERY SINGLE YEAR I GO TO THIS RACE ugh
We will be buy it's hard to say where. It will be in the lots that are a busride away I'm sure. Should be able to coordinate that Sunday morning I think. Or email me wasknick at gmail
Just walked into the North Turn bar and holyyyy shit is this place cool. Leonard Wood was walking out as we were walking in.
So rumblings have been that the Donald himself is going to be in attendance Sunday. Just heard he's the grand damn marshall lol this place is gonna go bananas lol gonna wanna get there early...security is going to be off the walls.
I was at the 2017 Indy 500 when Pence showed up. They completely shut down one of the entrances/exits to make sure he could get in and out of there. Leaving that day was a bigger shit show than normal. Of course our tailgate spot is in the infield, so it always takes forever to get out, but that day was a couple extra hours for sure.
I think we will be sitting right behind flag stand again tonight if anyone wants to come find us. Right through the 145-146 portal.
363! I'll look for yall!
We are down here now. We sat here yesterday since it was GA and liked it
That truck race last night was one of the most entertaining sports events I have ever seen in my life. I couldn't sit down.
Amen to that! Congratulations to Grant and to crew chief Jeff Hensley.
Air Force One: bigass plane.
Y'all trying to meet up while we find out how long we are waiting?
Fox is showing last year's race. Not looking good for a quick re-start
Postponed til 4pm tomorrow y'all
:'(
So, ultimately as shitty as the day was...chances are that'll probably be only time I will ever be in the presence of a sitting president. That whole experience was cool as hell.
I had that opportunity once at Tech
Wish I didn't
Big bummer about the race but we will be there tomorrow. Planned that day ahead of time, backup was Universal. Yes, seeing Air Force One land and takeoff behind the back stretch, along with the Thunderbirds, was definitely a sight to see. Wish The Beast was hitting the high banks, but it was also cool to see it go around the track. Let's hope tomorrow we get the cars around there for 500 miles.
What a big ass wreck
Man, intense.
It's weird watching Gordon in the booth.
Why is it always lagano? Damn man... there was 16 to go and he decides to play bumper cars. There's bump drafting and there's crashing people to get them out of your way.
Karma bit him in the ass.
This has been wild.
Are you still here?
No :( left this morning 8-9ish and got back home around the halfway point.
The replay left me speechless. This is terrifying.
I hope this guy is right, that looked horrible..
We are waiting with bated breath. Until there is announcement Twitter is useless for info.
Y'all pray for Ryan. This happened right infront of us...
That wreck was scary. It didn't look as bad live, it the replay showed the other car hit him on the driver side window. 🙏
Looked very bad live. Looks horrible on replay.
O'Donnell just addressed the media. Doctors said he is in serious condition but his injuries are not considered life threatening.
I thought I watched someone die on live TV tonight
Wow, the fact he has non life threatening injuries after THAT accident shows just how far safety measures have come over the last 20 years.
I was afraid it was going to be another Earnhardt. It was all the worse because I saw that he has 2 little girls and I was hoping these kids didn't just watch their dad die on national TV.
Thank goodness he's alive, that's truly amazing with the impact he took.
HANS devices and SAFER barriers saved a life tonight
That and the seat and roll cage. I have a feeling it was the hit from the other car that crumpled the roof was the most damaging.
Can't begin to describe how relieved I am to hear he is alive. That was one of the scariest things I have ever witnessed. He came to rest right in front of us and we just waited. When the screens went up around the wreck my stomach dropped... the walk out was just quiet.
Rubbing is racing, but that right there is not what I am hoping to see when I watch. Whewwww...
I can't imagine seeing that live. I don't watch racing anymore, but you couldn't get away from this on the twittersphere. Watching that hit on the driver's side when he landed, I thought for sure that was it. Very thankful for him and his family that he survived. While Dale Sr was a tragedy to be sure, it looks like the safety measures taken after his death saved Newman. I would never presume to know how Earnheart's family feels, but I know it would bring some solemn significance to his death for me.
This is spectacular
Reddit Post on the Newman Bar
This is amazing to see and the wild part is, he may have saved his own life starting a decade ago. He pushed NASCAR to add another bar in the roll cage for added structural integrity in case of roll overs. It likely saved his life and possibly Lajoie's on Monday.
Truck race last was great...if only Kyle Busch hadn't won by a damn 8 second margin.
Xfinity race will resume tomorrow roughly an hour after the Cup race. Approximately 7:30ET.
Well, the WEC race today in Austin was a blast. Although seeing the new 2020 'Vette (yellow) go round for 6 hours had me asking the wife about upgrading my truck...
There were two of them at my hotel last week in AZ. One yellow and one blue. They were running laps at the GM Desert test track. Still trying to get used to the side intakes.
Center lock wheel thoughts: personally, I think they look pretty sexy. I don't like the thought of not having the 5 lugs to go thru, but not the end of the world. But if you were to go on Nascar's Instagram, you'd think they dug up Dale Sr. and smacked him. I swear I think you could give most Nascar fans gold and they'd complain that it was too heavy.
I think they're going to look awesome on the cars and IMO, a needed update. The single lug wheel doesn't bother me at all. A lot of folks will complain, but I think it's a good move.
Single Lug is fine IMO. They use them in F1, and teams still fail to tighten them sometimes.
If Phoenix was any indication, the short track package is going to be amazing. That was a great race.
I'm excited. I watched this while working at home so I wasn't as into it as normal but I liked what I saw.
As much as I hate to say it, Nascar has got to follow suit here right?
Well they have already decided no attendance for Atlanta and Homestead. I think the races will still happen for now but we will see how long that lasts.
I agree. I was going to go to the Indycar race in Austin next weekend, but now they are saying that Indycar will have to get a waiver on Austin's ban of events more than 2500 people that is place through May 1. I have not bought my ticket for this one yet but....
... I already have my ticket for the Indy 500 on memorial day weekend (you have to buy basically a year in advance to keep your seats) and I'm not so sure I even want to go. The Austin race is one thing (its not that well attended) but the 500 is a shitshow of 300k people.
I got a down vote for this? WTF?
THE STATE OF INDIANA IS A JOKE BRO!! /s
Idk who did it. 🤷♂️ Where do you typically sit at Indy? I've never been
Turn 3, about halfway up. We also park/tailgate in the infield at turn 3 with is right next to the snakepit.
Austin cancelled... bummer, was looking forward to my first Indycar race.
The Atlanta and Homestead races are postponed.
ESPN
If this shit don't sort out before Martinsville I'm going to be so, soooo angry/sad. Waited my whole life for a night race there and this stupid virus is going to steal it from me. I hate the coronavirus and I don't care who knows it.
Disclaimer: I know I'm complaining about a race when people are losing their lives.
Understand that I will go there and drive the Tacoma around the track if I have to.
We know people...we'll get in, buddy.
They are talking about organizing some iRacing leagues and Dale Jr said he wants to do it too. Never been so excited to watch video games.
FS1 Is showing this iRacing Pro Invitational at 1:30. Lots of big names and the closest thing to an actual sporting event today (besides marble racing later)
This is going to be very interesting.
That was wild.
This is fun in light of everything else going on
Beats the hell out Marbula1...which, by the way, is quite exhilarating.
Indy 500 moved to August and a doubleheader weekend July 4 with NASCAR.
I'm not going to say it...but I'm beginning to worry about a certain race in May.
I still want to believe, but I think the writing is on the wall.
Thoughts on Bubba Wallace losing a real life sponsor due to rage quitting a video game race? This shit is crazy. Quarantine got folks acting some kinda way...
Just a video game, yes. But Blue Emu paid real dollars to be on the side of that car. I wouldn't have been happy about it either. Also, marketing brilliance on their part. So many people on social media "I'm gonna go buy a jar of Blue Emu now...whatever the hell that is."
I don't know what's funnier, Bubba raging and losing Blue Emu or the Daniel Suarez/Kyle Larson saga. Also, Clint in the booth while driving makes things 10x funnier.
The video of the incident is out there on twitter. Won't post it here, but.... yeah...
Yeah not a good look
He used the hard "r" pronunciation. NASCAR has to come down hard if for no other reason than public perception.
And he was suuuuuuuuuper casual with his use, hard 'r' or not.
This is the stupid sort of narrow minded slip-up you just cant make when you are a public figure. And there is no way he can blame this on anything else. Suspended or not, he is going to have trouble finding any sponsor willing to even be slightly associated with him anymore.
Watched my first iRacing Indycar race on Saturday, and 3rd place went to..... Dale Earnhardt Jr!?!?!
Pit strategy is a helluva equalizer. Also that race was a shitshow, and I had no idea the IndyCar driver's were such divas.
Kyle Larson has been fired
I'm not surprised a NASCAR driver was caught saying the n-word. I am surprised it was Larson. I'm also kind of surprised by the swift decisions made, but considering all his sponsors were jumping ship I knew he'd driven his last race in the 42.
Now the only question is, who drives the 6 unless Newman is back first?
Would he have been fired if there wasn't a coronavirus and we were in the middle of racing season?
Easy to fire him now when there are no races and you're still carrying his salary.
Yeah I think he hit the point of no return threshold with with that one.
Yeah he would have been fired. They suspended him without pay immediately and then when the sponsors dumped I'm it's not financially viable to keep him anymore.
NASCAR is really trying to diversify and get rid of that stereotype. This sort of thing just sets them back too much, because now everyone is out there thinking "just a bunch of bigoted rednecks".
You mean they're not? ;^)
If he had still been recorded saying the n-word, yes, almost certainly. However, the recording almost certainly wouldn't have happened, because the racing world wouldn't be so centered around iRacing right now, so overall I'd say he probably wouldn't have been fired if they were still racing.
Deleted.
And in a surprise move today, Kyle Larson is replaced with Matt Kenseth.
Apparently the job was offered to Carl Edwards first, but he turned it down.
Man when Carl left, he freakin left, man. Never expected him to stay gone.
Interesting that an F1 driver with zero IndyCar experience won this weekend's IndyCar iRacing event. Can't tell if that's a bad look, or a win (since Lando has a massive online following).
Not a bad look necessarily, but I think they have said in these simulated races driving and Indy Car and an F1 car are much more similar than say driving a simulated stock car.
Yeah, I imagine that's true. Lando also had his former F1 engineer (now in IndyCar) who could help translate.
Regardless, still makes me wonder if people will see the outcome and now think IndyCar is a much lower tier than F1 when all their drivers get wiped by a 20-year-old with 1 year of F1 experience.
Interesting anyways; was a fun race to watch. COTA is such a fantastic track, I need to get out there more.
To be fair, it is definitely a second fiddle to F1 in the real world (talent-wise, I think it's closer, but everything else...not even close). Also, the same thing is kinda happening on the Cup side of things as well. No way in hell these younger guys can hang consistently with the veterans on a real track but they're mopping the floor with them in the rig. I take it all with a grain of salt, honestly.

👀
I would rather them wait and run Martinsville double header in fall than have it run with no fans.
I'm currently working on my grand plan to sneak into the track a couple nights prior to the race, campout in one of the suites, and watch the race from there. Don't tell anybody.
Consider your plan foiled!
He probably shouldn't have posted his grand plan on a public forum. There are spies about.
*private mode*
See, now he expects me to not do it now that he knows. Probably won't even go up that direction during the race. That's called a "double w-whaaat" in the world of sneaking around places.
*exits private mode*
Well no Martinsville scheduled in May, so hopefullyt will get a new day where fans can actually go. The back to back races will be interesting.
Four races in 11 days. Two at arguably the most demanding track on the circuit. The longest race of the season and then back three days later. Gonna be brutal on em but I'm totally here for it.
I anticipate that the first race back is higher rated than the Daytona 500.
Thinking about going over to the track and pouring one out this weekend
I say we go. What better way to self isolated then on a hill in your own sealed camper with a bunch of other people in their own camper with similar interests.
So races with no fans does that mean tracks with condos over them get prevented from using balconies?
Being private residences, I don't know if that falls under their jurisdiction.
Speaking of that though, I often forget the ones at Charlotte still exist...but one night I didn't. I found a couple of them for sale on realty websites. They ranges from your typical apartment (for the low low price of 600k) to like a 2,000sq/ft mega apartment (for about 1.5mil). I love Nascar, but I just find that fascinating. Also! Dale Sr. owned one back in the day and spotted for Jr. the first time he raced there from said condo.
A lot of those condos are halting parties during the races that would fall under rules I would hope.
Of course. The 10 person deal is still in effect right now in NC as part of the "stage 1" opening sequence. So, still, empty stands, but I don't have a clue how they'll handle those residences. I'm sure if they saw a flood of people going in prior to the 600 and following races, they'd have to say something lol
You know what I'm pretty excited to watch North Wilkesboro even if it is in virtual form.
Dale Jr. basically single handily made that happen. Pretty neat.
Literally made an open invitation to everyone "I have the keys, will people show up on this date and help get it cleaned up!"
So cool to see how they kept it like it was. Dirt and grass infield, no pit wall.
It's such a unique short track that at the time did not have the infrastructure to handle the crazy NASCAR boom of the late 90s. However I think they are heavily hinting now at Dale Jr buying the place and maybe, hopefully turning it into the Cup Series version of Eldora. At least that's what I would hope. Having the all star race there could be killer. They just need to pave it, the infield, and new grandstands, pit wall, safer barrier, infield access (tunnel). Basically a brand new speedway.
Millions to buy it, millions to not renovate, but nearly completely rebuild the place...that'd be one massive undertaking.
Wednesday night Martinsville? When did they get lights?
2017. Been running the late model race under them since.
I am not upset at anyone, but it's a damn shame that the first cup race under the lights will have no fans in attendance. My personal opinion is they need to save that. Run it during the day.
Which was what the original "leaked" quarantine schedule was, like May 31st at 3, which I was fine with. And like you, don't wanna complain about having sports/racing back, very grateful for it, just damn. I guess where the trucks or xfinity weren't scheduled for the spring they had a hard time justifying giving them a weekend date.
Damn, a night Cup race at Martinsville would be awesome to go to!
NASCAR!!!
LETS GOOOO. Newman, who hasn't raced since Daytona, is the only guy in the field who has turned a lap in a longggg time. Gonna be wild.
Highlyyyy doubt we get a race tonight. Sunday looks...likely, to be ok.
Yep, NASCAR IS BACK...to normal.
Boy was I wrong! This is great lol
This is a great one for alot of people to watch.
Hot damn what a Saturday night. Wait what day is it?
Lots of people just saw Kyle Busch not looking like a cool guy. What a great race. Didn't even finish but it doesn't feel like it.
Yeah, pretty amazing race. Looks great on Nascar. And...a fox?? What the hell lol why not
As a bonus, Denny Hamlin so I loved the ending! Even if Kyle Busch is a douche, lol
Fun fact, Charlotte Motor Speedway is actually not in Charlotte, but is located in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle.
They could have a race on the fucking moon and it would still downpour
I'm itching to see some in person. So much.
Chase Elliott is Doin Work!
Putting together a solid run. Racing with a purpose it seems like. The Hendrick stable has incredible speed right now, but he seems like the only one who can put it all together.
But what in the hell happened to Harvick last night? Running on rails then drop like a rock lol
I think he knew he was never going to make it on fuel and just started racing so he could make it to the finish. Already has a win in the last week, so I doubt he is too worried.
If we can't get back to fans at races for the fall Bristol race...I may just call it quits. Become like...a sober vegetarian reading...person. Idk.
Bristol is WILD today
I only saw the last 60 laps but it was a good 60 laps.
Those last two laps were as good as they make em! Chase Elliott is a big Kes fan and I'm happy he is
https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/wilson/2020/06/02/2021-nasca...
Wrong Nashville. All rumors and speculation, but what I'm hearing and reading is that Dover is losing one of their races to NSS. I also have it on pretty damn good authority that another track is losing a date next season, though I won't say who....but it's a pretty easy guess.
If you are talking about Martinsville that is a load of horse shit.
Definitely not the track lol Martinsville, in my opinion, is forever safe.
I know Chicagoland is supposed to be going away entirely. Other than Dover losing one not sure what else may be gone.
Ding ding
The question becomes, who gets that date? Does a one-date track get a 2nd date? Or is it a new (or old) track?
They going to both Nashville tracks
https://twitter.com/nascar/status/1270491069780766729?s=21
I don't embed. Just click on it. Mother of god.
I knowwwww. I saw it earlier. The clock is amazing. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE DAMMIT.
That is awesome!!!

I prefer being at the Martinsville race to not being there.
Hey Patrick, are you watching this on that new ultra realistic, looks just like the real thing, tv with no commentary and the same loud noise in the background during the entire race?
Panasonic make those?
Does Panasonic still make anything?
I was hoping you may have been working near the speedway and accidentally got close enough to see it
Man, here's to hoping Austin is okay. You could tell he was out of it as soon as they helped him out of the car.
Me too. And he can't be looking forward to spending another 3+ hours in the car in Miami, in June 😳
Well remember, he damaged a part of his car that delivered air to him. It wasn't particularly any worse temp wise for a race, but without the circulating air he was basically sitting in a sauna for 3 hours with a firesuit on. He should be fine when his car is working correctly.
It was humid affffff in Ridgeway yesterday.
August humid. That way here in Caroline too.
Mother nature HATES quarantine Nascar.
How 'bout that Denny Hamlin!!! 🟠🟣🏁
Looks like they moved the All Star race to Bristol. The article I read (and now I can't find) said they are planning to have fans.
Also
They touched on them potentially playing with the number/sponsor formats on Dale Jr's podcast a few months ago. First renderings I'm seeing of it. If it appeases the sponsors and brings in a touch more money, cool. But I think it looks like IROC cars, personally.
they certainly didn't do the design any favors with the slanted logo that really does resemble IROC cars of the past.
With that said, it could allow for some great throwback designs to the early years of NASCAR where the numbers were closer to the wheels.
I don't get all the IROC hate (not just from you, it's all over Twitter as well), IROC was a ton of fun before they ran out of funds.
Also, this is the result of a poll NASCAR held months ago (that prompted Dale Jr's discussion), and this was by far the least offensive option presented.
I didn't mind IROC, to be honest. In fact, I enjoyed watching them race in vehicles that at least looked like what you could go out to the store to buy.
I wish NASCAR would go back to this route.
They're trying, at least a little. At least they've got unique noses for each manufacturer that suggest a similar look as their retail counterparts, and they're moving to low-profile tires among a handful of other changes next year in an effort to make them look even more like showroom vehicles, but you can't just drag out a stock Camaro body and a stock Mustang body and expect them to be competitive with each other.
You could always implement balance of power to keep them competitive. And even then, I know NASCAR has been exploring options to use more Road and Roval courses, and I think going with stock bodies might really make that great where its ok that not all cars behave the same, because they would all have their own strengths.
Plus, I want to see the crazy things that automakers have to make available to the public if they go this route. Homologation makes motorsport fun.
All I want to say is I really hope Bubba Wallace somehow pulls out the win tonight.
What a finish. The blocking from 12 was insane.
what a race😃
Bound to be the wildest finish I've ever seen. Holy moly.
IF they can get this restarted, 2nd stage has to be the max of what they can get in. No way the whole race is a goal. Feel like that's obvious...just wanted to get that off my chest.
Edit: turns out, I know nothing.
Didn't think they'd get it all in either.
Thought they'd be 10-15 laps short. Best part of that race was Bowyer and Bowman battling for 8th at the line.
Bowman tried to pull a "bump" to Bowyer for the spot. Bowyer let him know that he wasn't putting up with those shenanigans.
For those of us watching F1, interesting start to the season as Ferrari qualifies P7 and P11 (ouch). But, more interestingly, Mercedes' new dual-axis steering system (DAS) is ruled legal. What's DAS, you ask?
Oh, nothing, it just let's a driver change the front-wheel toe angle throughout the race by moving the steering wheel in/out. Faster on the straights with no sacrifice on the turns.
Just hand them the championship trophy already...
Watched qualifying on mute (in-laws talking) and never caught that. As if Mercedes isn't dominant enough right now. I don't really see Kimi pulling out another championship, but Leclerc...yeah he's got it written all over him.
Yeah I am definitely ready for the new regulations and budget caps. It is not a good sign the best racing occurs midfield most of the time.
It is so sad to see Williams this bad given the history of that team.
Lots of fun today at Indy and then hopefully an IMSA race tonight at Daytona if the storms don't get too bad.
Didn't get to watch a lap of it. Gotta be better than the oval, right?
I only watched the last few laps but that was fun racing. I am all for more road courses on these ovals. They are fun
It, in theory, is a weird concept, but if it's anything like the Roval compared to Charlotte outside the 600, I'm for it. It's crazy how the perception of road courses has changed over the last decade. Used to be a curse word but now, especially the Glenn, is one of the most anticipated races of the year.
Holy hell what an F1 race today, madness!
HAAS :( Super pumped for Norris, and Hamilton probably stole that win away from Albon. Again.
Seriously, that was worth the 217 day wait. Next week should be interesting...
Damn! Hamlin was 7 laps from the win. 😥
Brutal way to lose that race.
This is going to be fun. I like Watkins Glen but I really think this will be a hit. I want to go.
Sad there's no Glenn. That is such an awesome track. Going downhill into 1 is so freakin wild.
I was just looking at tickets, and Flights into Daytona Beach that weekend are only $125 round trip from Richmond, Friday-Monday. Hotels are still ass cheap. Nearly booked it.
This was at Dominion Raceway just a few miles up the road from me, LOL
Insane last lap at Kentucky
Almost enough to make me forget how boring the first 90% was.
Will Power right before the start at Road America yesterday...
Long time lurker and finally remembered my login stuff. I'm excited about tomorrow's race. Bristol at night for the All-Star race should bring some fireworks.
I looked long and hard at going to the Daytona road race when I usually go to Watkins. Just couldn't pull the trigger even on how cheap it was but I'm sure it will be an awesome event. Miss the full weekend tailgates of race weekends right now.
I'm still on the fence but I ought to not go seeing as I already went to Daytona once this year, but good God that feels like forever ago.
Yep, I was wanting to because of the price and it being the first one. I had fun at the first Roval and seems it will have that same feel. It has been a long season considering I'd had been to at least 3 by now this year. Bristol fall race was on my radar but oh well. Make it up for next year I guess.
I'm going to withhold my judgement on the streetglow until I see it tonight. Just throwing that out there. Could be incredible looking (especially on the traction compound)....or dumb as hell.
I'm expecting both, personally.
Verdict: they look pretty cool.
I liked it. I may be wrong, but I wish they could've matched it to their paint schemes a little more. I get the manufacturer tie, but blue on a yellow Joey Ford or same with Harvick looked off. Seemed like a cool feature they may test out more of.
First race I've watched in a while. During the preface show they said that UT played UVA at Bristol. Then Alvin Kamari dropped the green flag and they mentioned he scored a touchdown there. Ugh.
That was a boring All-Star race :-(
Boring? Have you watched an all star from the last decade at Charlotte? This was a Royal Rumble compared to those snoozers lol I bet the folks in attendance tonight thought it was awesome, but Fox (bless their hearts) did awful tonight.
Been to the 600 and then some there. I love the tradition of the track, but dang can it be a snoozer. If it had 2 grooved tonight it would've been beating and banging. Still good 3 wide in parts. But Fox did not help it even though I liked to see DW.
I've been to a dozen or more there and, in person, is a ton better than on tv. I always tell people that's the place I recommend to go to to really get a feel for how fast they're going. They wizzzzz by going into 1 lol
It was a boring finish to a Bristol race, somewhat of a rarity but probably caused by the "traction compound" forcing everyone into a single racing groove.
Just wasn't enough laps to really get the compound broke in then wore out. A normal race there, it's given enough time to sort of go away and, by necessity, drivers start playing trying other lines.
Chase de Money for the win.
How did y'all feel about the lane choice line? Seems like it creates a new wrinkle at almost any track. Like anything in sport changes I see pros and cons just like when they changed from the old single file format years ago.
It's a change that I've been anticipating for years now, ever since the first time I saw jockeying on pit road to try to lose a spot to get a better lane selection.
They can't add it to regular competition soon enough, imo.
Curious on other opinions about the protest in F1 re: Racing Point and their identical designs to last year's Mercedes? I dont want to sound like sour grapes but if all the cars become clones I'll be a bit disappointed. Seems like because Lawrence Stroll has a ton of money he just copied last year's mercedes specs.
I realize that every team has different designs an engineering behind them...but, hand up, as a relatively new (like 3yrs) and casual watcher of F1, I cannot tell a single difference in the cars lol
I dont think anything will be done about it, but its very clearly a clone where they got lucky it actually works well. I personally just dont like Perez and RP in general so I hate it, but if it was HAAS, I'd be more okay with it. I think its one of those things that is "Legal", but kind of goes against what the sport is about/unwritten rules.
I think if the stewards are going to say the Pink Mercedes is legal (which it probably is, technically), then all the midfield teams will just follow suit and be 1-2 years behind the frontrunners with nearly identical cars. At that point, just allow customer cars. I mean, what's the difference at that point? And nearly every other series does it anyway.
Added bonuses: more competitive midfield, more financially stable midfield, and the possibility of new teams due to lower startup costs.
Ah yes. Quin Houff doing Quin Houff things.
I may be one of the largest RCR haters out there, but Dillon's comment on silver spoon after he won was awesome to me. Mic drop comment worthy. And dang if Reddick isn't doing crazy for a rookie.
Does Hamilton win by 30 or 40 seconds today?
Or does he have another one of those days where he has pit problems or a random wreck?
Holy cow what a finish!
Wild finish, that was my first time watching an F1 race in years. I need to keep tuning in.
B-b-b-baaaaaddddd Braaaaaadddddd!!
I was only able to watch off and on as I had to help put a dog down this afternoon. From what I saw he dominated and had Denny on the short runs early but made his car good for the final long run. You think he stays on with Penske next year?
If you'd asked me earlier in the year, I would've said no chance he stays put. The year he's having, I feel like Penske might fork out the cash to keep him now. Mayyyybe Hendrick throws a pile of money at him for Jimmie's ride? He seems more like a Stewart-Haas fit than Hendrick, though.
He signed a one year extension with Penske yesterday, according to Jenna Fryer's twitter.
Dang that was quick after that win. I was kinda on the side of hoping he'd go to Stewart Haas. As a fan of Harvick I wanted to see what another guy like him could bring. Good for Brad, but 1 year seems like kicking the can to me.
Sorry to hear about the dog. Thats tough duty. Our dogs are our present kids (our human kids r grown).
Yeah, it was a family friend, and my wife works with animals so she was able to help and do it at home to make it easier on them. Animals sure are a part of the family and sucked having to do that. I made sure to bring beer to try and ease the pain.
By God y'all Michigan was alot of fun!
Finally got home after the storms. Michigan was somewhat fun to rewatch, but hard since I had heard the winner of the first race. Looks like the 11 traded the 19 for supremacy. He is lethal this year it seems.
20 goes to Bell. I think that was a Stinespring call. We could see it on a 2 tight end set and motion fullback broadcasting the run which way we were going to hopefully grab a 1st down.
As far as the Toyota camp is concerned, sure. But kinda hard to ignore Harvick right now lol
Yeah as a Harvick fan, I know he is doing good, but didn't want to be showing off too hard for him is all.
Should be fun with the Daytona street course coming up.
He's lights out, dude lol the older he gets the better he gets.
Based off the Xfinity race yesterday, I don't know if what we will see today will be a good race, but it should be pretty damn entertaining.
I know they gotta slow em down one way or the other, but the chicanes, especially the one coming out of 4, are wayyyy too tight.
Well the bus stop on the back is a staple of that road course and I love that one. Great place to sit and watch a race is right there because you always get to see something fun. The one coming out of Turn 4 is just an annoying addition that half the drivers yesterday just ignored.
I was prepping for the storms headed for our SE area yesterday but was glad to see the 4 grab another win. Just hoping he can keep up the pace for when it matters most.
Feels like yesterday we were down there for the 500. This year, all things considered, is absolutely flyingggg by. Super excited for this race.
I wish we were down there for this race, but I'm super pumped for this race. This should be really good!
God I always forget how hideous these spoilers are.
Whoever decided that Daytona should be the cut race for the playoffs deserves to either be fired or promoted
Final laps are, for better or worse, gonna be a shit show.
Why are we not getting the split screen race and commercials? Missing multiple laps here.
Welcome to Nascar, homie lol side-by-side takes over for about 1/2 to 3/4 of the race.
Seemed like when the race is on NBCsports it's almost the entire race. I remember the old days where we didn't get any split screen then Indy started doing it and NASCAR followed suite.
I believe ESPN was the first to start doing it back around 2011. They did usually do it for most of the race.
Really hoping Jimmie can sneak in.
Wood brothers and Dibitdaditto!
Oh there's gonna be some swinging.
The fact that 21, 24, and 48 made it through that is amazing. Going to be a tense finish.
Matty D's got this
7-time's done for all intents a purposes.
In case anyone missed, here's the beautiful Newman interview:
Meh. A lot wrong with that interview.
Not to light you up, but no. As a loooong time veteran, he is right. As a looooong time superspeedway killer, he is right. As an all time blocking son of a bitch....he is right. That was a dumbass block made by a young gun trying to go after a W. He's correct. Reddick, himself, said he was in the wrong.
Yea that wasn't the issue with the interview.
Care to expound upon that?
The new community Guidelines on COVID discussion prevent that.
Had to go back and rewatch the interview To figure out what the issue was. Holy shit man. A boom pole, an interviewer 10+ft away...what the hell more do you want? Ban me, I don't give a fuck. That's a stupid reach right there.
Boooooo! Booooooooooo!!!! (Good, exciting finish, but I have a somewhat personal vendetta against Byron) BOOOOO!!!!
It would be so funny to see that car fail postrace inspection and send Jimmie to the playoffs in his place. Like, I have nothing against Byron personally, but it would just be hilarious if Cheatin' Chad gives Jimmie a spot in the playoffs in his final season.
In Florida. 24 car winning. Time for the pool
boyparty!Thought Bubba was to pull away there for a minute. What a great finish to the race overall.
That was a hell of a finish! The last 20 laps were insane! Gotta love Daytona!
So I was a day behind due to work. Got some crew guys and we just watched the race since we don't report til later tomorrow.
Wild race with guys on the bubble. Sucked for the 48. The 8 made a wild block but admitted as much from what I've seen. 18 getting knocked only compounded to his rough year. 4 wide at times was wild to watch when going for position. It was a cool race to watch as we bubbled and didn't read who won.
Sorry bout your bot highlander. It's always a crapshoot at those super speedways. Idk if I like it being a make or break track but it put fireworks into an already crazy year.
F1 Italian Grand Prix today was absolutely bananas, instant classic. Red flagged, some massive time penalties, and...
Spoiler alert: a race win by someone other than Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull for the first time since 2013.
Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB5yhZdF8SI
Didn't get to watch a single lap. Been on the run since 9. But, that's a wild podium lol hope Darlington delivers a good race as well.
So happy for Gasly. Guy has been a stud since he got demoted. So well liked on the grid. Happy to see him have success after what Red Bull did to him.
So, I was able to finally watch the race today. Truex at fault, or should Chase have checked up? I have my opinion, but wanted to hear from others. Glad Harvick punched his ticket to the 2nd round. Austin Dillon closed that gap raiding sideways and the angle looked like he could've had a better run out of 4 than he realistically did.
Truex definitely at fault. You can't ask the leader, racing for the win, to check up. He held his line and did what he had to do. Truex, always holier than thou towards anyone who drives remotely aggressive, got a wee bit aggressive and it cost them both.
Was watching it in a room full of ladies and could barely hear the tv but when they came off of 4 I said "holy hell where'd he come from?!"
10-4. That's how I felt too. It was crazy how Chase searched at the bottom as he was doing so well to keep that small gap on Truex while rim riding at a track pretty notorious for cars doing generally best up there. He had every right to hold his line is what I think too. Truex sent it and it didn't stuck, but I think he knew that was the only shot he had for the win.
Austin Dillon sending it on the final lap was a pretty good save as well coming off 4. For a second I thought he was gonna get Harvick in the right rear on exit with that bumper cam. Fun race and wish I could've gone instead of driving back from Louisiana during the race.
Are we gonna talk about what they want to do with Autoclub Speedway? I'll link it later.
I'll be very interested to see how they handle what will be the backstretch. The front stretch/oval/whatever you wanna call it is rather steep for a straightaway (11 degrees). It'll either be Bristol-steep banking or Martinsville/Richmond type braking. Idk...gonna be a massive undertaking making it all flow. I wish I had some of that Roger Penske money (he still owns it...right?)
Also, crazy to think if this goes thru, a short track will sit where they used to push 220mph going into turn 1.
Bristol has reached it's "social distancing capacity." Though it's not official, I'm gonna call it a sellout. Bristol's back baby! Wooo! Cannot wait to get up there!
Bubba Wallace is leaving Richard Petty!? That's surprising to me. Anyone think he'll take over the 48 or the 20?
I'd think more along the lines of the 42. Maybe it's been the equipment at RPM that's held him back, but I've seen absolutely nothing that suggests he is worthy of a top flight ride. He'll bring a pile of sponsors which will help soften the blow of lack of success, but there's a reason Gibbs and Jones are separating, and it's not a lack of sponsorship.
Also, heard a rumor a while back that a certain Carl Edwards was testing some of Gibbs cars recently...man I hope that's true.
I would pee myself if he came back. I never knew how much I liked him until he was gone.
That would be awesome to see one more flip off the window. I always wished he was there longer.
I thought I'd read that he was possibly looking at purchasing RPM with Denny or something crazy, unless that was an article from the onion. Either way I don't think he has produced even results like Almirola to get a top ride except his sponsors he has.
Maybe the split with Jones will help him like it did with Logano for change of scenery.
Just seems like they view Bell as next man up better than Jones and want to open up the 95 for another rookie or developmental guy with Levine. Isn't RPM moving to an alliance with JGR as wel for Toyota? Gonna be interesting times besides the playoffs.
The 95 has been sold to Spire (currently fields the 77) and will no longer be aligned with Gibbs or Toyota. I'm also pretty sure the RPM-to-Toyota rumors have been outright denied by RPM, so I doubt that's happening.
Most likely scenario is Denny buying the 13 team and getting equipment from Gibbs, though I'm not sure who they'll tab to drive it. They don't have anyone in the pipeline who's even remotely close to ready for cup equipment, and Erik Jones is one of the top free agents left, but that would be a bit awkward. The only other drivers remotely close to making sense are Larson and Bubba, and with Chastain filling the 42 you should expect one of them in the 48 and the other in the 13 (or whatever number Denny replaced it with).
This aged well. I just had a whiskey memory and was on your thought track, just didn't put it together right. Was more of the Denny and Bubba rumors I'd heard and then looks like I drunk rambled dumbness haha. Let's see what happens with MJ in the fold.
Welp...at least I can devote my full attention to the race next Saturday 🤷♂️ Hashtag silver linings
Best weather ever for a Richmond fall race.....
Well the F1 race has gone to hell already. Another red flag, this time after a safety car restart
Can we just have all the F1 races in Italy? Two weeks in a row, two weeks of drama.
Xfinity race was great (at least in person). I had Cindric in our three man pool and won lol
Edit: I'll take any questions as in the big C precautions tomorrow morning...respect my decision.
I missed it all. All of it lol. But I'll watch it today.
Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin start new team for Bubba Wallace
Now I meant to get on here yesterday to bring up the Bristol Dirt track news. BRISTOL DIRT TRACK
Circuit of The Americas should be pretty cool as well.
Welp, guess I'm a NASCAR fan now...
All these cool new tracks and they finish at Phoenix?
I'd rather it be at Pheonix than Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Homestead, Kansas....
Who the hell thinks it's a good idea to have Atlanta in July? People are going to melt. Cool additions though. Reallyyy wish they could've let Martinsville keep Mother's Day. Darlington in April makes more sense in my geographical mind.
The same people who've had races at Daytona in July! Talk about melting! 🥵
Nice to see next years schedule. But it's still 2020 and Talladega is open for business. Just got my tix for the Alabama 500 this Sunday. Nothing like the Dega. Yee Yee
Damnit...I'm jealous. That place is heaven on earth. I hope when I die (punchers chance it'll happen there), someone has the wherewithal to spread my ashes on the Boulevard.
Didn't get to see the truck race, but had the Xfinity race from 2nd stage onward on the iPad. Really wish they'd let em go to the checkers, would've been crazy lol very pumped for tomorrow. As a Kes fan, I think he needs to live up to the Dega whisperer namesake this weekend to advance to the 3rd rd. I don't trust him at the Roval despite him being pretty decent on road courses.
Very excited for some Talladega today. And I really need Martinsville to allow fans and camping. At least fans.
Today and Martinsville in a few weeks are my two favorite races of the year. Just so much build up and anticipation. But this race is just so...whatever the term for clinching your butthole for three hours is, that's what it is.
And yeah, I desperately want folks to be able to attend Martinsville. Need some tailgating in my life as well!
What a damn race this has been.
That last lap was absurd. And how could anyone not like Matty D? And if the Wood Brothers don't give him an extension, shame on em. Dude can drive and very, very likable.
That finish was awesome! How about that Denny Hamlin!!
That penalty on Matty D is bullshit. If he were Gordon or Johnson, NASCAR wouldn't do shit. And Hamlin rode down low when he could've come back up on the track. Assholes from NASCAR.
I hate the penalty for DB but Hamlin couldn't have made his move any differently. Slowing down could have caused more crap behind him, he got out of the way and got back up. I don't know why he should have to slow down just because he had to dip below the line. Jr was right, get rid of it. It was implemented to stop wrecks...did a great job today didn't it?
I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Hamlin gained the advantage by staying below the yellow line, passing cars battling for position, then cut back up in front of them, causing them to have to check up to keep from wrecking. Not slamming Hamlin per se, but slamming NASCAR for their bullshit application of rules. Either the rules mean what they say or they don't.
And there was plenty of crap that was happening behind the leaders that put a lot of other drivers in danger, but who cares right?
That's a harsh call on this in my opinion. I think it's very clear he could only go down. It's the clear instinctive choice for any driver. That line is invisible to them when something starts happening.

He didn't just "dip" below the yellow line, he rode down there for a quarter-mile, cut the turn, and conveniently came up when he was in the lead. He had ample opportunity to get out of the throttle and avoid whatever he thought was happening in front of him or get down and not advance his position. He still had the full front stretch and tri-oval to make a run at the lead if he'd just come back onto the track in third
If they're not going to enforce the rule how it's written, they ought to do away with it (at minimum in OT and on the last lap). And the arbitrary "forcing another car below the double yellow" shouldn't get enforced unless it's reckless (see e.g. Logano at the end of stage 2). NASCAR bungled this, just like they bungle everything else. They refuse to get out of their own way and it makes the sport hard to support.
Y'all gotta remember these cars are going 200mph and any disruption of air is enough to spin them out. Swerving like you are trying to dodge a deer and still stay in your lane isnt that easy at those speeds. Not to mention the transition of the yellow line to banking also causes issues which is why they don't want cars down there at speed anyway. And at 200 it takes less than 5 seconds to go 1/4 Mile.
Wild races at the Roval this weekend. And I think the ACCN was doing the camera work today, holy cow it was bad.
Watched the whole weekend including IMSA. Wild times. Happy to see Kyle Busch out of the playoffs for a change. I was really hoping Clint would sneak into the 8 today instead of breaking his power steering and almost killing himself.
Y'all got any of those Martinsville Tickets.....
Racing to resume tomorrow at 9AM...as in 9 tomorrow morning. Holy shit lol gonna have a pot of coffee with a Cup race, don't think I've even considered that before
I guess it's 10 for us but yeah good god
Oh hell yeah, didn't even consider that lol if they can get it going even for some laps I'll take it
I wake my ass up early for this race and they still can't start it on time?
Looking at Pockrass' twitter makes me think it won't happen for a couple days.
They can just run two at Martinsville. And I won't get to see a one 😭
This will go down in Nascar history books as The Great Mist of 2020. Now their saying potential for sleet there this evening lol TMS has had to have spent a fortune in fuel for the Titans and jet dryers the past couple days.
Like, don't they have to drive to Martinsville lol
Watching this on tv hurts. First race in probably a decade and only one of like 2-3 in 20years I haven't been in attendance at Martinsville. That being said, not even 100 laps in and it's been exciting as hell. And I hope Kes puts a brush guard on his front bumper, probably gonna need it.
May be setting it up for a fun ending
*gif of Sheldon breathing into a paper bag*
Is it chicken shit Harvick isn't going to Phoenix with a chance at the championship? Yeah, definitely. Am I going to complain? Nooooooope. Onto Phoenix! #2Crew!!!
Martinsville delivered! Love short track racin', especially as a cut-off race.
"Martinsville delivered" is exactly what I texted my dad lol and yes, that as a cut-off makes for some excitement that Nascar needs. Idk if the casual fan will watch that and react like I did (somewhere between a giggle and throwing up) but damnit you couldn't help but realize shit was happening. The first 200 laps was balls to the wall, the last 150 was nail biting watching every battle for position. Woo lordy. Goosebump raising race.
Or maybe that was just me, idk.
Not just you. I was pumping my fist and contorting my body and saying all kinds of nonsense. It was so good. Phoenix should be fun as well. Glad they got off the Homestead thing. Need to move that final race around every so often.
Seeing Jimmie's obviously been crying face has me damn near to tearing up. Such a bad, bad man. Sports are one of like two things that can get me emotional. Fuck. Great season. Would have loved to have been to more than 2.5 races (damn that Daytona weather)...onto 2021!
I'm glad he is going to be doing some other things like the Indy and IMSA.
And Chase Elliott will be the first one to 8. The training wheels are off.
Lol he's over the hump, no doubt. 8? Not going to say no, he certainly has the best chance going forward to get 7. Like they just said, Kyle's the only guy in the series now with multiple championships...which, in a sport that only hands out one ring a year (and has a handful of dudes slammin' out 3-7 championships in their careers), kind of easy to imagine. But still...damn. Kevin Harvick has to be second guessing everyyyyything from the past 10 races. Shit, the past 4. Up there with Gordon's 04 season as the best to never claim the title.
All that to say, how many more days to Daytona?
I think it's getting easier and easier to win more and more. Kyle could do it but it will be interesting to see how he performs next year coming off of this past year. May not be past his prime yet. Chase still has 20 years at least. He is going to end up being more like Gordon probably than anyone.
Ahhhh man only one race this year hard to believe. I need more in person action next year.
Thing is, Kyle's early years were met with the likes of Gordon, Kenseth's one 'ship, his brother, and Jimmie going on a tear that likely will never be seen again. He really missed the boat on piling on his two championships from 2010-2020. Just going thru my mind on guys who "should have" won a championship in this decade: 2011: Carl, 2012: Bowyer, 2015: Joey, 2016(?): Carl? Or was that 2017? 2020: Harv or Denny. This format is nuts, but it makes it exciting. Want a game 7? Here ya have it lol
Also excited to see what he can bring to Indy...also very glad to hear he's only running road courses (if I
I'm wrong on that statement, please let me know). Ovals in those cars is just suicidal.
I heard he's become a bit more open to trying oval races, but to this point he's only announced that he's running the road courses.
Hoping to catch him at VIR some time.
Awesome to see Chase get it. Big fan of that kid.
Always pull for the underdog, so I've always rooted against Jimmie. But that man is one first class legend. Would have loved to see the 48 get a W this year.
Same. Hated him in his prime, but damnit, he's the best I've ever see do it. Those 10-12yrs was such utter dominance. Absolutely insane. Tiger Woods kind of shit.
Are you me? I was anti-Jimmie from the start, even after Junior became his teammate, but I'll be damned if I haven't been pulling for him for the last year or more as he completely fell off the map.
That said, I'm happy for Chase. Even though he definitely wasn't the most deserving driver this season, he and his team came through when it mattered most and won the last two races to bring it home, and it's not even like he backed his way in as this is now 5 total wins on the year. And, well, with next year's emphasis on road courses, I have to believe he's the hands-down favorite to repeat.
I'm not you...but are you...I?
Oooooo...haven't even thought about the road courses next season. My goodness...he could win 15 races next year lol
15 might be a stretch, but he could win all 6 road courses and 3 of the 6 short tracks and I wouldn't even bat an eye. Toss in a couple intermediate races and maybe a plate track and, well... maybe 15 isn't that big of a stretch lol
Right? Me and my dad (big Nascar guy, and the one who ushered me into the sport a looong time ago) have had talks, Chase is good everywhere he goes. Short tracks? Good. Intermediate? Good. Superspeedways? Really good. Road courses? On course to be the best ever. He's ultra competitive at every track he goes to. Who's the last guy who can say that? Stewart? Not as good at mayyybe intermediate tracks? Jimmie? Not as good at road courses, but was absolutely lights out at intermediates. He's the full package. Nascar has a group of "dudes" coming in to replace the "dudes," but idk if any of them have what Chase has...a head start. We may be in for another big time run. Not a Jimmie type run, but something similar.
You're not wrong, he may very well be the next driver to get a win on every track, after Jeff and Kyle (both at a certain point, before additional tracks were added).
It truly feels impressive that Chase's 11 wins are spread out among 9 different tracks. I wonder how often that is the case.
As the track starts to dry, why pit for slicks when you can just make some yourself?
^ Hamilton's 50-lap old intermediate tires that he drove to the championship.
I know Stroll had to be pissed they brought him in for a second set of inters from the lead given how the race turned out.
Apparently he had front wing damage? At least that's Racing Point's story...
Not sure I believe that, but I guess you have to come up with something since its the bosses son.
What an exciting race. I think more of the F1 season should take place in the cold and wet parts of the year, it certainly shakes things up.
Terrible, fiery crash in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Thankful the halo was invented and that a conscious Grosjean was able to escape the fire.
Saw the clip of the safety crew attempting to extinguish the fire then out of nowhere he hops out of the blaze. Absolutely incredible he made it thru that. Just...wow.
Watched the replay on TV last night. Crazy. They had a camera on the car on top of the halo as well, but cut off the replay about 20 feet from the guardrail. That's one of the worst I've seen, especially for someone to simply walk away from.
Interesting story on the 1982 Winston 500 and a guy named L.W. Wright.
https://jalopnik.com/meet-the-fake-nascar-driver-that-competed-in-the-19...
