This puts the game right at the beginning of whatever trick-or-treating we are going to have. I might be watching the game on my phone next the fire pit as I socially distance giving out candy.

This could make trick-or-treating with Mini LancerHokie interesting..... I will probably take her around 5:30-6ish, which makes me missing most of the 2nd half. I guess I will listen on my phone as we wander the neighborhood and listen for yelling as we go.
In the same boat. Was hoping for a noon or 8 PM kick. May put the phone on do not disturb and DVR it instead.
I always take our daughter out while HokieEnginerd stays home and hands out candy and shows off his pumpkin carving We have 3 pumpkins that he is going to carve--- 1 is probably a 25-30 pound one that he will do a mermaid on to match Mini LancerHokie's costume. The other 2 are hundred pounders that he hasn't decided what to do. I suggested a pirate/sea monster theme... They will look pretty cool when he is done and people always stop by to see what he does every year. I am dressing up as a football player (again) so I will be ready for the game.
pics please (upon completion)
He has done some awesome ones.
Last year he did a Harry Potter theme---Harry, Dumbledore, Mischief Managed, the Hogwarts shield and Hogwarts
He's also done: Gandalf and the Balrog, Maleficent, Linus and Sally in the pumpkin patch from the Great Pumpkin, Jack Skelenton on the curled cliff, a Sugar Skull on a giant white pumpkin, a Dia de los Muertos lady, the Eye of Smaug, the Hokie Bird that is his profile pic, Curious George, Mickey as a Skeleton and a pumpkin to match our daughter's costume most every year.
Photos or didn't happen. :)
I will post them after work tonight.
EDIT: My profile pic is one that I did 2 years ago.
EDIT2: Because I don't want to do work right now, I put all of the pics I could find on my phone into a Imgur album.
Pumpkin Album
Wow. Those are very well done. Especially the Lord of the Rings ones.
What do you use to shave/skin the pumpkin like that. I've been wanting to try a pumpkin that style and might try this year.
First I draw the pattern on with a sharpie. Sharpies are nice for drawing on pumpkins because the lines stay put but you can fix mistakes by just rubbing it off with a little rubbing alcohol on a paper towel. Then I take an exacto knife and slice out the lines of the pattern. Then I have a set of small flat head screw drivers I use to peel the surface off. To let the light through, I thin the wall out by scraping off the INSIDE of the pumpkin. It is more forgiving that way. To light them I use a string of white Christmas lights. Candles just aren't strong enough. I do have a shop light I use occasionally for the 100+ lb pumpkins. I usually spend the entire week before Halloween working on them after work. I am going to start on this year's this weekend. Doing it this way takes a TON of patience.
Very cool photos, and thanks for posting them.
I guess they did happen!
This is what I'll be doing
Well the horror of games broadcast on the ACCN will fit the day.
My wife's birthday is the 31st, so there was no winning no matter when they scheduled the game.
Are you not going to be "winning" off the field?
Now drop cardinal head on the gif you and you have a winner on your hands
Sleep with one eye open
Halloween would fall on a Saturday (second best option IMO) during a pandemic which demands that people socially distance themselves....figures. Why couldn't COVID happen in a year when Halloween falls on, like, a Wednesday or something?
Really wanted this one to be a nooner because our neighborhood is gung-ho on trick or treating this year.
honestly suprised more of yall arent using covid as an excuse to stay in and finish the game
I will actually use trick or treating as an excuse to stay away from the game if it comes down to it lol.
But in all actuality I have a TV that I move from our outdoor kitchen, to the wood shop, to the garage so I'll just move it out to the garage for the evening.
The ACCN is growing on me. It really adds to the experience when you're never quite sure what the real down and distance is. That and the spurtle commercials.
It's fitting that this game is on Halloween, because this game scares me.
Even though Louisville is 1-4, this is a game that I've historically seen us lose before. Gotta stay hungry these next several weeks if we're gonna get to 6-1.
Thankfully my daughter has reached that age where she has decided she wants to hand out the candy and not go trick-or-treating this year. Going out with her has been my job as she knows I will stay out longer than my wife will.
Nobody around the country gets to watch us play because we are always on the ACCN.
Not that it matters as far as perception goes, but neutrals around the country are missing out on a really fun team to watch.
You're not wrong. Sigh.
You're not double wrong. Sigh. Sigh.
What's it gonna take to get a game not on the ACCN? Given its shitty production and how awful the overall network money deal is compared to other leagues, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss Raycom.
Amen. I also hate losing screen size to the permanent fucking scroll at the bottom.
Its going to take a year like this year and then another one maintaining it to get out from the under the cloud of mediocrity the program has been mired in for 3 years. Winning will get networks attention. The later half of the schedule should be on higher profile networks.
Honestly, we should have had better network slots in the early part of the season before all of the other conferences came back.
Looking ahead, Miami and Clemson are our best bets for a real ESPN or ABC. Pitt could get us there, and uva could just based on the strength of a rivalry. But I could see almost all of them (plus Liberty) being prime ACCN fodder.
I read on Twitter that we're getting so many ACCN games because there are a lot of Comcast customers in Virginia. So, basic cable shenanigans to force people's hands.
Comcast Xfinity still doesn't carry ACCN?
I don't believe they do. I switched to Verizon from Comcast last year just so I could pick up the ACCN.
Verizon is 1000x better than Comcast. I am assuming you mean FIOS right?
1,000,000x better. I switched about 5 years ago, and have not looked back. Each time my contract ends, they offer me the new deal.
Maybe I misread, or someone mistyped. Sounded like a reasonable theory that a major cable provider in VA wasn't on board with ACCN yet.
Can confirm Comcast does not carry ACCN in any way, shape, form, or package. In my area it's either that or DTV, which does. Comcast, however, is the only reliable internet provider, and they price their breakouts accordingly. Sucks.
A compelling matchup. Like the UNC game.
I've been out of the tricker-treating game for 15 years now, but who starts at 4pm? Don't you wait until after dark?
Not the ones with little kids. In a typical year in my neighborhood, the parents with toddlers will have them out around 5 or so.
Barely after dark. The problem is that a 4 pm game ends after 7, or about the time the kids would be getting back home anyway.
I always remember going out around 7 and going until 9ish? Granted it was a lonnnggg time ago, so my memory might be hazy.
Hokies must really be selling those spurtles.
Game/channel breakdown through Halloween. (all info below sourced from Wikipedia, anything regarding future games subject to change)
ACCN appearances:
6: Pitt, uva
4: VT, NC State, Wake, and Syracuse.
3: Clemson, Miami, BC, Louisville
2: UNC, Duke
1: GT
Yet to appear on ACCN: Notre Dame, FSU
ACCN: The exclusive home of uva football through October 2020.
RSN selections:
4: Duke
3: Syracuse
2: BC, FSU
1: VT, NC State, GT, Wake, Louisville
0: Clemson, ND, UNC, Miami, Pitt, uva
UNC, NC State, GT, and Louisville are the only ones to appear on ESPN itself, all with 1 game a piece. There have been no ACC games on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
On the flip side, teams on ABC:
4: Clemson, GT
3: UNC, Miami, FSU
2: ND, BC
1: VT, Pitt, Wake, Louisville
0: NC State, uva, Syracuse, Duke
Notre Dame has 3 NBC games plus a USA game.
And just because I like turning things into numbers that we can compare . . . Let's see if we can determine who's had the best and worst TV deal so far. I'll assign a point value to each channel based on tier, and then divide by number of games. ABC or NBC - 3, ESPN or USA - 2, ACCN - 1, RSN - 0
Team: avg (points/games)
ND: 2.83 (17/6)
NC State: 2.5 (15/6)
UNC: 2.16 (13/6)
Clemson: 2.14 (15/7)
GT: 2.14 (15/7)
Miami: 2 (12/6)
FSU: 2 (12/6)
Louisville: 1.33 (8/6)
BC: 1.29 (9/7)
Pitt: 1.29 (9/7)
VT: 1.16 (7/6)
Wake: 1.16 (7/6)
uva: 1 (6/6)
Duke: 0.71 (5/7)
Syracuse: 0.57 (4/7)
Re: 11th out of 15 ACC teams for TV deals?

My brother in law went to Louisville. If we lose, I will have to throw my phone in the ocean.
