Considering over half my wrong guesses have been off by half a point.... I hate these spreads
I don't care anymore. Just win
Ok friends. I want to be excited about this. I want to believe this is the beginning of the moment we've all been waiting for, but I've been beaten down into skepticism.
What matters is paying for talent. Yes, good coaches, good facilities, but most importantly talent. I've followed this pretty closely but feels like I'm missing something big here. And I likely did miss it somewhere, but it's definitely not jumping out at me either.
Will this money be used to pay players?
With the House v. NCAA settlement, schools will be able to share up to ~$20M+ annually with athletes starting July 2025, but it's still optional and capped. I've seen Whit mention this in past, but what does it really mean? Scholarships, cost-of-attendance, and NIL are one thing, but the direct revenue-sharing piece is new and separate.
How much will go all in from NIL and rev share to players? Is that competitive with rest of ACC or did we just pay for a bunch more coaches and a GM?
Maybe they want to keep the total number opaque, but it's hard to really distill how much impact this money will have and thus my expectations will remain low until we land a stellar class/portal haul.
Curious what folks who follow the AD/board side more closely think.
Is there any public indication yet on our strategy here?

Holland Fisher
I had profs make sone snide comments while moving things around like you described. Some times just defeated that we'd rather go to a game. Of course Nunnally would tell us about how he beat VPI 3 times as the VMI quarterback so full spectrum there.

I concur completely. I actually discussed this with Provost Clarke not too long ago, and this was his exact conclusion from VT-specific data. Football success definitely does boost applicant numbers but there is no clear impact on yield, quality, or performance once enrolled.
Okay after watching the video with the orange visor I love these helmets.
I feel like 1-5 is coming
Good to see the 8's get some love after their recent performances
Terrion is indeed a BULLY (on the field)

Interestingly enough, admissions tracks this and has been studying it. There is no correlation between applicant quality or quality of admitted student in terms of high school credentials, time to degree completion, or GPA while enrolled at VT as a function of successful vs. unsuccessful periods in athletics. We get *more* applicants but not necessarily *better* applicants.
Matt brown at extra points has a piece about this (multiple in fact), and his takeaway is that:
As best as I can tell, most research seems to suggest that athletic success is correlated with increases in undergraduate applications. But the size of that increase, the length of time it exists, and how it might impact applicant quality or student retention, seems to merit a big ol' It Depends.
My advice? Schools should treat Flutie Effect bonuses as found money, not bonuses to aspire to.

I was a ME. Had multiple teachers moving tests and labs for football games. Never heard any complaints.
Diverting that to operations for faculty compensation and retention would be the better move to me at this point. Kind of think we should take a pause on the shiny new academic buildings for a while and focus on people.
Completely agree. If Guitarman says its an issue, it should be rectified before they cram campus full of another tower style parking lot.
Stop it! Stop it! my record is already dead.
Ah, thank you.
Bottom of the OP
No Maroon Anything
I'm feeling pretty confident this week.
I do not get the NMA acronym.

I like the uniform. I think the helmet, especially with visor really pops. but for the LOVE OF GOD WHY ARE WE WEARING AWAY COLORS TO A HOME GAME!
This is a wonderful away jersey. Fucking wear orange and maroon at home. Stop the dumbassery.
