They did "grow" 3 different strains of grass for the different zones/regions from south to north. They vary a bit from the initial thought, but they have a 2' sandwich on top of the base level of most fields that have been meticulously taken care of for months leading up. These are the best agronimists in the world, and FIFA hasn't messed with them. I know a few gold guys that know a few on the team, They are in awe of what they've done for this world cup.

Seattle was designed with soccer in mind but its about the only one.

I think they had to have overwatered about 8 yards out from the box on the US attacking end in second half. At least five players fell or a pass/shot was botched because plant foot didnt stick.

Is it too far fetched to think we can win the first 2 knockout games and then maybe it's a toss up vs Spain assuming they advance as well.

I think the biggest disappointment so far is Portugal!
Seconded by Senegal and Uruguay.

Was that the same ECU team (quoting another TKP'er that I'll never remember) that had two guys named Terry Williams?

that team was so young too. we had ford, phillips, shai mckenzie and marshawn williams all playing meaningful roles as true freshman

I hope the next time Urban sat down in front of a TV after this interview, the first thing he saw was an ad for Papa John's

Just went back and watched the condensed 2014 OSU game on youtube. Man, I forgot how fun that game was. That team had so much potential.

I did chuckle when urban recognized Bud and the coaching he did. Obviously I am biased, but that defensive performance is one of the best "you got out coached" that the Hokies have had in their favor.
Which we then had to the other way when Lincoln Riley took us for a loop at ECU.

Truth be told, it was a long time ago, but the memories are seared into my failing brain. From the moment we arrived until the moment we got outta town, from fans (even a guy in a wheelchair trying to fight) to the policemen, it was about as miserable a trip as any of us could imagine short of adding in jailing or injury, both of which were threatened at one time or another. Tour companies in Blacksburg stopped booking bus trips there also, as I recall.
My impression that day was that most of the worst behavior wasn't students, but more local fans, some of whom seemed pretty out of control, even for college football fans. Glad to hear the experience is different today, and I have always loved the beauty of WVa and have no animus for the university itself, an excellent school.

I like the term, "erasers". I hope by game 3, we see empirical evidence of a handful of erasers or erasers in the making.

Also love his confidence in our depth. What a treat that will be down the stretch of any season.

I also believe the most important intangible in competitive sports is a coach's ability to tap into the players' "inner warrior". I have experienced this first hand as a coach at the HS level. It is an absolute game changer.

This right here will be the difference between us either going 0-3 or 2-1 in that 3 game on the road stretch, as well as, our final record of his first season.

IMO, JMMF is the coach who is already tapping into that now and will show this coming season.

Two of my daughters are Mountaineers. One graduated a year ago and the other just finished sophomore year.

I have been to Morgantown a bunch. It has been nothing but great times. Met a lot of cool people. Have made wonderful family memories there.

The drive there is beautiful and easy. Nothing like 81.

I'm 55. I know what you speak of regarding the "old days" of how awful WVU treated opposing fans. That's why I never made the road trip to Morgantown back in the day.

Heading your way for good by next spring if all continues to progress. We'll be neighbors (Bridgewater) and I'd love to buy you a beer and get a little skinny on the fishing that way. I've fished Mossy back in it's early days, and had a couple of great smallmouth trips many years ago as well, but other than heading to Highland for trout, I'm clueless on what the Shen Valley has to offer.

I will leave that to another generation to do that, I'll NEVER go back to that hole again. Maybe time has changed them, but I have my doubts. Go forewarned if you go for a football game, and leave your next of kin instructions.

I'd also love for HC to have some benefits beyond season tickets

This would be great. Between life commitments and logistical pains of Blacksburg, I'd reckon season tickets aren't even remotely on the table for more than 95% of even the active, sports-crazed subset of the alumni base.

Triumph has done this a little bit with exclusive content and I think you get the equivalent of a Cameo shoutout with certain tiers of membership. But I think it's pretty limited and there's opportunities to do a lot more.
