Along those lines, on drives of 60 yards or more our defense has only given up 3 TD's (1 against Tenn, 2 against ECU) and 1 FG. That's 4 scores out of 48 drives. Field position is huge...driving the field on Bud's defense is not an easy task.

I can't help notice the trough of no rain cutting right across the middle of NC on Saturday. I wonder if this means we're shaping up to have a day where the two systems buffer each other enough to keep the rain from both well away from our area.

Greg Stroman, to me, is a liability in the secondary.

Are we ignoring the secondary breakdowns in the ECU game? Alexander gave up a 75 yd TD.

I'm not ready to anoint Alexander over Stroman. Both are extremely talented. In the two TDs that Stroman gave up, he was in position to make a play but just didn't get his hands in the right place. In the TD Alexander gave up, he messed up his footwork, causing him to trip up. These mistakes are correctable, and I think both are extremely valuable in the secondary.

It's part of the negotiation process; coaches would rather sacrifice some money on the front end to maintain a higher level of job security.

And then this follow up...

how is this not green yet? best movie ever!

I think this notion would be true if we were still under the BCS. A loss or two essentially ends your hopes for the title game, and staying undefeated and winning pretty were all that mattered. With the playoff committee, strength of schedule is one of if not the most important criteria. I don't think a loss or two necessarily will knock a team out of contention for the playoff if they were against good competition. Eventually, I see the P5 narrowing to the P4 (goodbye Big 12) and every conference champion essentially being guaranteed a spot. If that does become the case, I want more ACC competition and games between divisions with the ultimate prize being winning the ACC title for a playoff berth. Right now, we essentially have two separate conferences with how infrequently we play teams from the other division. Getting rid of the permanent crossover would help, but that also hurts FSU-Miami, GT-Clemson, UNC-NC State. I don't want to sacrifice a whole season's worth of meaningful and competitive games for the uncertain at best hope for a top-10 ACC title game.

I really think the fact he trusts the offense to cover for him if he messes up has him calling a much looser game this year than the past, and its allowing him to get more creative and test various looks that he wouldn't have done in year's past. We just aren't playing as tight as we were and its paying off in spades. Having a good offense is making our defense raise its game to another level, which I actually didn't expect to see, but its such a nice surprise.

Through four games, Virginia Tech ranks sixth nationally in points allowed on drives that don't start with a turnover

Too bad it has to have this caveat.

Need to compensate with no turnovers for the rest of the year.

Next summer, I will show you how if someone hasn't shown you by then. Your fish pictures need to be displayed for everyone's enjoyment.
