Man, my buddy on the West side texted me with about 3min left and said "meet me at half field?" Against better judgement I made my way down the East side stairs and joined a group of fans packing the lower rows, getting ready to rush the field. It was eery how silent that final 2:11 was down there.... Ahhh
Exactly. The "Bud can't stop mobile QBs" mantra has really come from the D being forced into constant, predictable man coverage (injuries/attrition to starters = youth & less scheme options). In man, the DB's can't look back for a scrambling QB. Especially problematic when the scramble isn't designed, so Bud doesn't have someone else in place with QB spy responsibilities. This leads to big, long scrambles downfield as already mentioned...
If Bud has a reliable experienced secondary allowing him to mix & disguise coverages like he did under his best defenses, then he will be back to giving OC's nightmares. VT still has the athleticism to play man and it's good to hear Bud confirm how talented those young DE's are. This roster is sooo talented, just have to get them snaps and let the best in the biz coach 'em up.
