Any hire is obviously judged based on their results on the field, but based on how he improved West Virginia's secondary this seems like a great hire.
Gray was a hell of a coach but it is time to move on. He was going to leave at some point because he has to diversify his resume if he has any ambition of becoming a DC.
I'm excited about the new guy...hell, I'm excited about this entire coaching staff.
I'm willing to give him a chance. But I'm not gonna acknowledge this as a home run hire BEFORE we start seeing similar or better results than Gray (not that I'm expecting it in his first season). Also, the pros of Gray statistically and astronomically outweighed the cons. Everyone here knows that.

I like Gray, obviously a talented coach but this year he made a lot of questionable decisions. From refusing to recruit Wayne Davis, offering Clay Dean without the rest of the staff's approval, and starting Greg Strohman and not taking him out until after he had given up three touchdowns in the ECU games. I think it might have been in everyone's best interest to move on, and Mitchell seems like a home run hire
