They are connected. They undulate with one another. You have to remember we are talking about recruits here, so if a team hasn't been relevant in 5 years, they don't have a national brand to them. For us, we remember teams that have been good even if they aren't now.

Totally agree, I don't like making proven coaches take pay cuts and the new ones getting bigger raises. Now if they live up to the hype then its all water under the bridge, but I expect a higher PPG average than this year where I think we ended up at 51 overall which was higher than I expected.

I think it's fair to say that the recruits saw the writing on the wall with Frank and that "contract extension." Even if they didn't, I'd be surprised if they didn't sense some weakness.

"Lame duck" may be a little harsh. But I think it's relevant in all but the most literal of interpretations.

I'll follow-up by saying that I'm not sold on Shane's recruiting abilities, but it's fair to say that he may have been a little sand-bagged at VT.

You bet. These guys never quit and there were times when you could see their growth and potential. Playing at Duke sucks, you play against 8 and what has to be the toughest home crowd in college basketball, but I repeat what I have said on the other thread, I fully expect a different game when next they come to Cassell. No, we aren't there, we may not even be close to there, but I'm starting to think we'll soon be able to see it from here.

I actually liked the effort that the team showed in the 2nd half. Kept fighting, even if it seemed like an impossible task. This wasn't a game that anyone could realistically have expected us to win. Duke is just a more talented team, simple as that. Looking forward to seeing how they come out against Wake

I think Wisconsin has a better brand name than Virginia Tech, certainly a more established football program. I would agree with Michigan State, probably also toss in Texas AM, TCU, maybe Missouri

When one player regresses, it falls to the player. When the whole unit regresses, it falls to the coaching, players, and program. Last time this happened was 2012.

With the program reboot, we can only hope this will go away and players will get consistently better from year to year.

Overwhelmed by the stage? Probably. Out-talented and out-played? Definitely. The Hokies showed up. They simply got handled because they were up against a very good foe in one of the most impressive venues in all of sports.

Thank you. I'm tired of hearing any permutation of the narrative that this team doesn't try.

In the smaller sample size of my lifetime as a Hokie, preseason hype doesn't usually work out that well for us.

But I will say I am always impressed with Maddy's unselfish play. I haven't seen it mentioned on here, but please go watch a clip of Dadi's final sack against Tulsa. Watch the subtle move Luther makes to give Dadi space. Unheralded and unselfish play. Wish they were coming back next season.

Could you see my fishing pictures from the other day? I know IFishVTIam was saying he couldn't see them. They don't show up on my phone but I can see others pictures.

I think that Disney will try to tie the Rebels series into the new trilogy somehow. Two ideas on how they could manage it:

1. Having Snoke show up as one of the inquisitors, possibly being introduced in the last tv episode released before Episode VIII is released.
2. Having Rey turn out to be the daughter/granddaughter of one or more of the Characters in the show. Since Rey appears to be human and not be at least partially alien it would make Kanan Jarrus/Hera Syndulla (human/twilek) as parents and Ahsoka Tano(togruta) as her mother unlikely, but Ezra Bridger/Sabine Wren (both human) are possible parents/grandparents for Rey.

Roger that. Pretty much of the entirety of my wife's family lives in Bridgewater, just south of Harrisonburg, and nicer folks or more amenable living conditions are hard to find. They envy the Hokies when it comes to college in general, and sports in particular, but otherwise, they're ok. Get the JMU softball people talking, though, and the sparks really fly. Football-wise, though, they knew they caught lightening in a bottle that one time.
