This is another great point. As a multi-purpose venue, Cassell is pretty lousy.

I might be wrong, but I have a feeling, if there is a new WR coach to move him to RB, it would come externally, Burden has already interviewed prior to them naming Wiggins WR coach. It will be interesting to see how things work out between VT, UVA, Maryland (recruiting purposes), Miami (mostly for the recruiting, but I have a feeling theyll be hitting Fla, GA hard) and who Babers brings in at Syracuse.

# | Cassell Coliseum Catch-All Thread - Likes, Dislikes, Wants, etc. I love Cassell for a lot of the reasons cited here but if Whit is really serious about increasing revenue, than eventually they need to build an all new multi purpose arena in my opinion. Right now Cassell is a revenue generating building about 30-40 days a year at most depending on how much crowd you get for basketball men and women plus maybe wrestling if its not being held over at the new performing arts building. A multi purpose arena could generate revenue somewhere between 120-140 days a year if done properly. It could allow for ultra premium (Boxes), premium, regular and student and still manage to focus on the student section front and center. It even better accounts for the media as well.
The biggest challenge here is of course making sure you keep the focus on basketball while making other events possible and location on campus (shut down Cassell and build a new over top while playing everything in Roanoke or build elsewhere on campus). It may be one of the few things that UVA has done right, but JPJ Arena is a great basketball environment that still allows the school to make money other ways when basketball isnt the focus.
I am thinking our boys need to have a free throw contest against our ladies team and take some notes. The girls tend to have better form and motion since most can't just muscle the ball up there.
First off, we beat Tennessee?!?!? That is a huge win over a traditional powerhouse!!! Also glad to see a player from a non-ranked team getting some credit where credit is due.
I'm calling it now. Cline will have a monster year in 2016. Bucky will try to take the top off/deep outs and seams. Cline will be perfectly fit for the underneath stuff in Fuente's system.
Really agree with the sentiment that the halftime mention was over the line. No reason to do it, it was piling on plain and simple. His point was made to the player on national TV, twice even. To then make his point to the audience was redundant and mean, in my opinion. One thing to coach and teach, another altogether to shame a kid.

Living in Roanoke, it is still hard to make games during the week. Though now with the smart-way bus... if they ran that to downtown Roanoke to Cassell, and back without worry of missing the "last bus". Plus It has WiFi!
Though it does look bad on TV, it is a great atmosphere inside the arena.
I am afraid we almost need to build something new - probably in the parking lot across lane now, tear down Cassell and use that as a new lot for students, basketball & football parking. Maybe even a parking garage.

Yeah...Kalvin Cline? Where the heck was he all year? I saw him catch maybe two passes all year. Hurt or not making it to enough practices/meetings due to VTCC requirements?

Tennessee very quietly had a good year, and of the 4 games they lost, they should have won 3 of those if it weren't for their coach's conservative game management. And they're only going to build on that.
Our only shot of winning against them is if the defense completely shuts down whatever Tennessee throws at them. And of course the offense will need to put some points on the board, because whoever scores more points will win the game. /madden
This is a big concern of mine. I had a similar thought like 200 comments down in the "Fuente Staff" thread 5 days ago.
"Fuente said that last year was the first time he gave up play calling duties to allow him to focus on the program as a whole. I believe he had an OC and co-OC. Is one of them more "the guy" than the other regarding Memphis's offensive prowess? What happens if one of the OCs doesn't come with Fuente to VT? People are giving Fuente credit as a QB developer, but he has stated that he began to look at the program from the 50,000ft level. Won't his position coaches now be the people developing QBs, packaging plays, and calling plays?"
I'm guilty of this too, but let's not forget that premium seating doesn't only apply to wealthy donors. Businesses often buy up a significant portion of these packages for things like client entertainment or employee rewards.

So while the NRV isn't overflowing with 1%-ers, there are plenty of businesses that would fall into these categories.

Sounds like 3 options:
1) Shane stays as RB coach and Recruiting Coordinator
2) Wiggins goes to RBs, Burden stays, unclear who might be Recruiting Coordinator
3) Outside hire
On Hokiesports, most of the coaches already have assigned positions for next season. On there, Wiggins is listed as the WR coach. Perhaps that isn't definite, but it would be odd if they switched his assignment after announcing it one way. That leaves either option 1 or option 3. Some of it could depend even on if Shane gets an opportunity outside VT. I feel that there could be an inside agreement that Shane has a spot on the staff unless he finds something better, such as a HC position. Once the dust settles, maybe there will be some clarity there.
EDIT: Looks like nothing is certain regarding who is coaching where until staff completely comes together. Perhaps Stiney takes TE and Recruiting and Shibest has ST only. Who knows.
