Cardale had a couple of these headaches in HS. When the headache phases out, it seems to not pose any further problems. So, however Urban was going to use him before, he will be able to use him Mon night.
I have been partial to the idea that Cardale will get a series per quarter. There are others who think he will not see the field at all unless JT is injured. Others think he will be seen for some specials/trick plays, short yardage, taking a shot long, etc. There has been some thought they might use him with JT and Braxton - and the possibilities there are only limited by imagination. But I think everyone recognizes you aren't going to beat VT based solely on that kind of stuff. What his exact role in the gameplan is will be something to look for Monday night.
We OSU fans generally don't worry about Cardale getting hit. We worry about the guys he is hitting. :)

Is CoachUM capable of setting up his offense in the way Miami did in 2013 or does he just run his offense how it has always been run? CoachUM seems to be a little bit of egotistical when it comes to his thoughts on this game. he thinks other than the sound, for his team it wi be a piece of cake...
They updated their stuff a couple of days ago so it no longer matches...and unfortunately I don't know any details on what changed other than everyone moved around. I verified the graphs match the numbers they had posted prior to their update, and in any event preseason ratings, especially on special teams, aren't particularly meaningful.

Thanks for that very detailed and objective break-down.
When I look at that Tech D alignment, I see the middle of the field wide open. I understand that this is partially negated by inside leverage by alignment of the secondary as well as depending on the rush to get to the QB in 3 sec or less. I also know that if the QB does get enough time, or a DB makes one misstep, or you rub those DBs off one another to create some space - it's uh-oh time.
It also applies to the running game. The defense relies on clogging gaps in the middle, but if one gets created there is essentially no second level of defense, and we have seen what Elliott does when that happens.
To me, that's the ballgame in a nutshell in terms of OSU offense vs. VT defense. I agree totally that the lack of proven players on the outside for OSU (other than Thomas) really helps the Hokies set this defense and make it work.
TCU has an elite, explosive offense, but we saw them not look like world-beaters last night. They made quite a few mistakes, and were held down by a Minnesota defense that is good (especially in the secondary) but not elite. I chalked it up to first game issues. My point is that defenses are generally sharper than offenses this time of year, and I would see that as boding well for VT if OSU isn't executing at a high level.
On the other side of the ball, I expect the OSU defense to have the same advantage, but not having Bosa does bring uncertainty as to how they plug that gap in performance level - and how that affects the entire front 7.

As someone who's had a few close calls of that nature over the years, and only once did I actually shoot the guy a bird (richly deserved), I think you have a good plan. Too many assholes out there, and nowadays, waaay too many of them are armed.

Old news to most of us, he was a class act in school and has been a great coach. What is better than that, he is a much better person than he is a coach.

I've noticed with Big10 bands and SEC bands that imitate BIG10 bands, the members do not have fun during the game. They basically sit there and play when they're told. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Having said that, The MVs might not put as good of a show on the field in terms of drill precision or musicality, but they're entertaining, they have fun doing it, and they support their team with enthusiasm.

Both were awesome games in their own right, but neither were particularly significant and there is no way that WVU ended our title hopes in '03; they may have beaten us badly but that season just didn't go well.

Most music performance classes get 1 credit while requiring waaayyy more rehearsal and performance time, plus individual practice time. The way music classes are setup in college is a joke.

I am in the unusual position of having relatives in both bands. Two of my children were in the Marching Virginians, one being the drum major and my niece was in the OSUMB. Very different philosophies and very different resources and rewards. I know Dave McKee is extremely proud of the fact the MVs are made up of many majors and the dedication of these students. Watching both, I can't help but think, the MVs are having more fun and are more involved in the game itself. If you watch the stands, the OSU director will be conducting the students but the MV drum majors will be conducting the students and learning to coordinate with officials, tv timeouts and when to play what song. Kudos to OSUMB, they do put on a great show. I grew up just off the OSU campus and they have been doing Script Ohio since at least the 1960s - it is incredible to watch.

I'm so proud of being an Alum of the Marching Virginians, and getting to see the band continue to grow in the right direction and continue to get the respect of the University Officials. I helped donate money so the current and future members could have their own space to practice and not have to worry about conflicting with the Track and Field practices, port-a-potties, diesel powered lights in the fall when the sun goes down at 5, having to repaint the field every wek, etc. Dave has brought this band a long way and they completely deserve this new facility for all the support and effort they provide for athletics and the community. It is wonderful to see the respect and gratitude non-band members give the Marching Virginians and the HTs. Hell the fans were part of the reason I loved performing during my 5 years in the band! Go Hokies!
