The three-star safety from Ocean Lakes High had some academic things to resolve before he could joint he team. He did so Thursday.
Alleyne played safety, receiver and cornerback for the Dolphins last year. Rivals ranked him as the No. 14 player in the state.

So he went from Ocean Lakes to the Miami Dolphins to the Hokies. Yeah, that sounds about right.

If you liked TD1, you'll like the book. I read it after watching the show and a lot of the themes are very similar and the main character is basically Rust Cohle. It was just one of those where it seems like the author's thought process was "Well, I'm out of paper, so fuck it, THE END."

Personally, I don't want to disqualify any of the games we played last year, and instead, try to reason why it happened that we can go into the Shoe in Week 2, and play like a well oiled machine out of the gate and then all of the sudden begin to regress over the remainder of the season. In my opinion, there are 3 big factors at play that lead to our decline over the course of last season.

1. Bosa knocked the hell out of Brewer, and he wasn't healthy for the remainder of the season. Heck, even in the Ohio St game, pre-Bosa hit Brewer was a lot better than post-Bosa hit Brewer. And then ECU and GT happened over the next 2 weeks, and he was just... off.
2. Loeffler's wife had a kid in September, right after that game. Word out of Merryman was that he was already putting in long hours before then, and then this happens. The playcalling against Ohio St was on point and put us in a position to succeed time and time again. It regressed badly over the remainder of the year. And then we hear Beamer making statements this past week about how he needed to talk to Scott about ensuring he doesn't burn himself out during the week, and yeah. Put the pieces together, and this was a guy who was mentally drained on gamedays due to everything else in his life going on. Things that were not in place prior to that Ohio St game.
3. Injuries plagued us. Ohio St was the only game last year we were remotely healthy for. By the end of the year, we're using backups and freshmen all over the OL (including having to start a guy who was playing DIII football a year prior), we're down to our 4th string RB being starter, our best DLman was out for the year, we were down at least one starter in the secondary, our QB was playing injured all year (including playing through a separated shoulder in one game), and what was supposed to be a vaunted 3 headed beast at TE was down to only one guy. I can't recall the last time I saw a swarm of injuries like that happen to one team in one season. And the injury train began against ECU, the game after Ohio St.

I agree that Ohio St got better as the season went along, and I agree that had we played them at the end of the year, we would have been slaughtered. But that does not mean we can't beat them now. We are a completely different team than the one that ended last season. By the end of last season, the roster we were fielding due to injuries had the depth of a squad who would have thought making a bowl was the program's biggest achievement in a long time. That's not the squad that will be taking the field on Labor Day.

It also depends on the show. The Sopranos was essentially a family drama set against a mob background. You called it right, it was essentially a look at seven years, and it wasn't important to have a plot that went from a hard beginning to a hard end, but rather just show character development across time, and the open ended conclusion was fantastic. Compare that to Boardwalk Empire, another mob show, but far more balanced between character development and a hard, definable plot (largely because of its basis in actual events). Because it was about the rise and fall of Nucky, it makes sense to show both of those things, and the ending was again very well fitting. True Detective is the opposite of the Sopranos. Very little emphasis on characters, and basically everything relates to one specific plot line. So it requires a definitive beginning and end, which it had. I think most people are happy with the TYPE of ending, but its the specific details of how it worked out that is getting the criticism.

TLDR: The best way to end a story depends on the type of story.

Just one quick point...we would have still gone to the BCS the 2004 season regardless of when we lost to NC State.

Saw the post's title and was wondering where David M. Hale High School was and what recruits were coming from there. I am not a smart man.

Not only will classes have started, but Tech won't have classes on Labor day for the first time in a long, long time. Student tickets are already selling for around 150$ just to other students that didn't buy season tickets. It's safe to say the current Hokies are going to be pumped for this game.

Please, we all know that there is no way VT could be an improved team from the one that defeated OSU last year because....reasons?

Just a few thoughts to share with fellow CFB fans:
1. Thanks for welcoming me here yesterday. I've been lurking here since last year when 11 Warriors linked to an article you had posted analyzing OSU's key plays. Great article & spot on.
2. Other than your weird color scheme, this is a GREAT site with good commentators. I come here because of all the VT sites I scouted out last year, this was the one that is the MOST like 11W. And as a long-term 11W member, I mean that as a compliment.
3. All fan sites have a ~5 % idiot core that can be frustrating. But I have noticed that you do a good job of policing your own (as we also try to do).
4. The game against VT is the second most worrisome game on our schedule. First? Michigan State. They're very good, they know us, and they want revenge.
5. I'll post sometime soon the reasons why I think OSU could win, and the reasons why I think VT can win.
6. I've learned that you don't like being referred to as V-Tech. So noted.
