# | Hokies Use Preseason Practice to Retool the Secondary in the Wake of CJ Reavis' Dismissal Nothing offensive about the comment - there just seems to be some irrational fear for Cardale Jones' threat as a runner. The guy averaged 30-yards rushing per game over the three games he started last year whereas JT Barrett had 938 yards and 11 TDs (78 yards per game) before getting hurt.
My original point was simply pointing out from matchup perspective that we should want Cardale Jones to start (and he is slow as butt). If JT Barrett starts, we are in significantly more trouble.

# | Hokies Sift Through Stable of Now-Healthy Running Backs, Develop Continuity on the Offensive Line 3 out of the 4 teams he faced averaged giving up more than 180 yards per game rushing, but let's not factor that in either.
Just for some perspective in games where JC had at least 10 carries he's averaged over 4 YPC in 7 out of the 13 games. He did have his best year last year in that regards, but have to consider the competition. I love his effort and what a great hokie he is, but I don't think he's our best RB.
See Virginia Tech Football 2012-2014. Not really even close to a conference championship.

If he was a Freshman then maybe, but he's a Senior. 3-years of so-so production. He is not able to manufacture yardage if our o-line isn't performing in the way that Shai, Marshawn, and Trey can to grind 3-4 yard runs. If the o-line is not living up to expectations in the first few weeks then J.C. will be the odd man out yet again. If they do perform and Loeffler uses the read-option from the shotgun appropriately then I can see J.C. being effective.
MacMillan is a total unknown. A high school QB with one year of non-game experience under his belt provides no basis for expectations. He may be an amazing athlete, but he has to prove that he can block, know the playbook, etc. before he'll be a known commodity.

McMillan hasn't played a snap regardless of what he did on the scout team he's an unknown who has only had 1 full year even playing the position.
4 games is a spurt. Can also give the OL a bit of credit for those games too can't we? Also not like we played a difficult schedule with duke, wf, uva and cinci in those games. (UVA was 18th in rushing defense, duke 92nd, WF 81st and cinci 85th)
We'd use him on defense too, but unfortunately facts are facts...

imagine his shock when he discovered he actually has to attend real classes at UVa, he really didn't think that transfer through all that well
Watched Denmark last night against Stratford High School.
Did not have a good night. Stratford went man up on him the whole night.
The first two balls he had thrown his way, great plays by the DB but he was having trouble getting open and didn't make the catch.
Next series, he got alligator arms on a slant route and dropped the pass but definitely had a chance for a catch.
Next series, 1st down, runs a hitch, ball hits him in the chest and pops up in the air and is intercepted.
Next series, has his first catch of the night on a 7 yard out route.
Next series, drops two more balls and catches one more, one literally goes right through his hands. The positive of this one was that he was able to get wide open though.
Postives - he definitely gets off the ball well, and the best thing I saw was he is not a "me" guy. Comes off to the sidelines, watches every defensive play with his helmet on and you can tell a leader of the other guys.
Negatives - I just don't know about his QB play will help him this year and where/how Hanahan's coach will use him. Every series, he is wide left in a trips or or twins situation. Coach never isolated him to take advantage of his speed or moved him around once. (but at the same time Hanahan does play Stratford later in the year so maybe he just wasn't wanting to show that)
All in all I definitely don't think he will be an instant playmaker at VT but in the program for awhile but could end up making some things happen later in his career, but can see him being like David Prince (is he still on the team?)
Denmark won't be playing top competition in SC this year so I am sure he will have some break out games and be able to show his stuff. (he is in 3A in SC, which his conference is comparable to Cburg/Bburg/Salem in southwest VA)

He's right. Cardale may not be fast but he can bulldoze over people not unlike Logan did.
Not only is our defense better than it was last september, but so is our offensive line. Same people, but 500x more mature.
I dont think VT will muster 2 touchdowns.

Darren evans did a lot more than one game. If he would have stayed he would have been our #1 back the next year.
What you both are saying about McMillan is that he is unknown to you. What I am saying is he is not an unknown because the people paid to know, which is none of us, have specifically said he has what it takes. So not an unknown.
4 games is a spurt. interesting. Usually players that are played in spurts do so in a number of plays, let alone game, but ok... So how many games does it take to not be a spurt? And regardless of what you think of the difficulty level of those teams JCC shined in UVA game and got us the win, and continued to shine even more in Cinci. you can knock him, but in my book he's already proved naysayers wrong.
