Time will tell how good these receivers are. The recruiting services aren't perfect, and I look forward to seeing what Zohn Burden can do. I feel like he's a pretty good coach.

There is also the "Dwayne Lawson factor", so who knows what the chemistry will be like?

I think VT is going to be surprised at the ferocity that Ohio State is going to come in with.

As long as VT comes in loose like they did last year, and aren't surprised when Ohio State shows up like it's "for real", I think they'll do fine.

But VT really can't come in overconfident. Just confident enough. Just like last year. With any luck, some things will work for them this year, also like last year.

If Bud's defense can shut them down, and VT shows up with an offense and a loose Michael Brewer, that will be quite the game. Lane Stadium will rock if it's a real game.

Otherwise, it could be a long night.

He wouldn't have "easily" been the crown jewel. He may have been rated highest by the recruiting services, but you could make the argument for every single one of our WR commits has the potential to be as good as him. I actually think that if it weren't for Deablo getting injured last year, he would be rated higher than Tino.

The staff will continue to recruit him and if he has a change of heart and decides to become a Hokie, than great but we will be okay either way. We will likely add 1 or possibly even 2 more receivers in this class anyway.

I'm saying that that's not the question. The question is "What has he done to put himself at the TOP of the list?"

He's been an OUTSTANDING Defensive Coordinator. He gets to keep that job as long as he wants it, and VT should pay him handsomely.

The Head Coach job is a different position, requiring different skills. I'm saying the job is not his by default. He gets to put his case forward. He has been outstanding and loves the place. He's had a lot of success as Defensive Coordinator. Those are great qualifications, and nobody else has those.

Yea? What else ya got? All that isn't enough to get my non-existent vote or vocal support.

He needs to convince Whit that he has thought about the big picture, and is willing to do what it takes to get the Offense and recruiting working better than it is now, while keeping the defense top-notch. Is the defense going to be able to maintain their level of excellence without Bud? What is he going to do that Beamer couldn't figure out, or was unwilling to do? What is he going to do differently? Who will his offensive coordinator be? What will be Shane Beamer's role?

Beamer took the program as far as he could. He went to the national championship game. But he wasn't able to turn the corner. The program is better known now, and has a lot of support, but it's a consistent top-30 program. I would like to see a national championship in that trophy case, but to get that I believe you have to be a consistent top-20 program. How is Bud going to get there? He doesn't have to convince me. He has to convince recruits. Every year. He has to win recruiting battles against UNC, UMD, and UVa CONSISTENTLY, and against Alabama and Ohio State at least regularly with recruits from Virginia. There is no way VT should be losing recruiting battles with UVa. With what VT has to offer, that's just poor salesmanship.

Part of that HC job is "selling the dream", or at least having an overall staff that can do that. You're getting better, staying even, or losing ground. Where is VT right now? Where will they be in two years?

Does the guy who can do all of this exist? Can VT hire him? Is it Bud? You tell me.

I'll say I think Loeffler is better than people give him credit for being. But we're going to find that out in the next two years. If he can work out the demons on the offense, recruiting picks up, and this thing starts to hum I think it bolster's Bud's case for a seamless transition. Is that what Whit is thinking?

I like the idea of consistency, and I'm not saying it can't be Bud. But for me, it's not automatically Bud.

personally I'm a fan of Goodwin hall. It's the new engineering building at the corner of price's fork and whatever tom's creek is called on the campus side. They have a massive turbine hanging from the ceiling, a 3d printing vending machine on display, and the second floor houses the TREC robotics lab (they have a fire fighting robot). Not sure you can walk through the lab, but the walls are glass. I think the Ware lab on old turner st is worth seeing. At the very least, the lobby will be open with older projects (mini baja, mini formula cars, drones). the lab itself may be open and you can walk through and see some of the projects in process.

Non-engineering attractions:
They also have the solar house set up to walk through behind cowgill hall.
Apparently the fossil/geology museum inside Derring is worth seeing, but I've never made it over there.
Hahn Horticultural gardens is pretty sweet. that's behind English field. Very pretty, not sure how peaceful it will be gameday, but at least there will be fewer couples making out. Same goes for walking around the duck toilet pond.

Eat at Our Daily Bread on south main across from gucci kroger for breakfast or lunch. It's a little pricey, but every bite is amazing.
622 north or preston's (in the Inn at Virginia Tech) are pretty good choices for good food. I've heard the black hen is good as well. All are a little up there cost-wise, but good. The nice thing is that all three have separate bars (as in basically different buildings) so you can choose to take part in that crowd or not. Avoid the Cellar on busy weekends. Food is pretty good, but service is awful even on slow days (we go there every friday for gluten free options, always regret the wait).

Sadly no fishing since I am here with the family at a small resort. This time of year it is overcast and dreary in Lima, so we are soaking up the sun at the resort's swimming pools. I did dine on Doncella and Paco last night though and they were delicious. Not sure what the English names are for those fish, but both are river fish pulled from the Amazon tributaries here in Peru.

I keep going back and forth about how I think this game will play out. Add in the suspensions and it closes the gap and creates more uncertainty for a team that was really experienced with young talent.

The thing that y'all have going for you is three-fold IMO:

1) A stout defensive line and elite defensive backfield (if you have all your guys available and healthy)

2) Bud Foster

3) Not being intimidated knowing that you beat us on our own turf last year

I think that #3 is being understated. VT was young last year just like Ohio State but they didn't have the depth to overcome a slew of injuries as the year went on as y'all know. But this VT team won't be intimidated and they'll have a loud home crowd behind them.

Obviously the game could get out of hand if Ohio State is clicking 100% on offense and able to dictate the pace to the VT defense. I really don't see that happening though unless VT can't stop the run. Elliot will obviously be very key this year, and probably get more carries in the first quarter than he had the entire game in 2014 (8 carries).

I don't see a blowout unless it happens late in garbage time for the above 3 reasons.

I'm really worried we are going to get curb stomped by Ohio State. The OSU team that won the national championship is a significantly better OSU team than we faced in week 2. Hate hate hate all ya want but those are the facts. We caught them off guard. Now they are pissed and are going to destroy us worse than Miami did last year. I am terrified but also so excited for this game... Just hope it's a game and not a blowout by halftime.

What're ya gonna do... i gotta say this one stings...

I know we have 4 guys right now... each of them offering something different...

But this one hurts... Tino is a great route runner and would've easily been the jewel of the WR class.... After leading the race for so long to get passed at the finish line sucks... I hate the trend these recruiting battles are going in. When was the last time we won a battle with a serious neck and neck final 2 or 3....
