Are you referring to the branding ideas presented at the last BOV meeting? I know Nike showcased several, modernized VT and HokieBird logos at the meeting. I think they should leave the VT logo as is but some of their HokieBird logos were nice. They're trying to actually make him look like a Fighting Gobbler, much more badass, and less like a character you would find on Looney Tunes.
Unless I am wrong, we hadn't chosen a quarterback until the end of spring either, even though it was clear that Brewer was going to win it after the first scrimmage.
Like I mentioned, I am not saying he is doing wonderful. I would hold out on judgements until there is actually information though. Pretty sure most teams try to keep their cards pretty close to their chest.

Honestly, I had never heard that before until very recently, and I recall reading over the vt.edu website created by the people who designed it (which I think has since been taken down, I can't find it anymore). I am not sure having it look like the square root of 1 was intentional.
Fortunately corner and nose are two positions we aren't lacking for talent. But hopefully these two will use their time wisely and join us in the future
not really. The last time that happened was with Holland fisher. Neither of these two guys were considered our top end recruits for the class they were in the middle.
edit: although if tim settle doesn't qualify he would fit the description you are talking about.

I already get the hard look from my wife when I make my golden hokie donation, I think an extra 10% might have me sleeping in the other bedroom.
Buying the tickets through Tech is likely to cost a little more but has several advantages.
1) Tech sells out their allotment of away game tickets. If these are routinely sold out, it makes it easier for the school to request more for bowls.
2) You get to sit with a bunch of other crazy insane Tech fans who are willing to travel to away games.
3) It probably does help your HC status.

Yup. Hope he's willing to make the switch and honestly not sure why Arizona hasn't attempted it yet. Worst case if they think he has ANY chance of developing into a QB they could keep him as the 3rd qb and try to get some use out of him on ST and as a situational WR/TE...
Okay, several perspecitves to see this from.....
1. The young men - They know what the academic rules are and what is needed to qualify for and enroll in a D1 program. They know it early because they see their older teammates being recruited and I'm sure their HS coaching staff talks with them often about what is needed. It's up to them to earn the grades and get the test scores. When they do or they don't - they've exercised a choice.
2. The Universities - Coaching staffs know, or should know, who will qualify and who will not. D1 football at VT and most of the Power 5 schools is many things - one of those things is that it is a business.... a very large business. Recruiting well is one of the skills necessary to succeed in business. When a school continues to recruit players that they know will not qualify, the coaches are making decisions too. Those decisions impact the school's athletic program and overall reputation. Staffs have to make decisions - When we meet with prospects that we are interested in and who are interested in our program, do we tell them straight up, leaving no uncertainties, what is expected academically? Past experience tells me that many programs, including ours, could do a better job of this. When young people are told what is expected and that there are little to no exceptions or what the extenuating circumstances are, they can make better choices.
3. The Alumni - Of course it matters. When I look at NFL rosters, or see former player's on LinkedIn or in the news, I like seeing that they graduated from Virginia Tech!
4. The money - Got to mention "the money." What are the direct and indirect consequences when you recruit someone who doesn't qualify? Financial impact? Impact on others that you might of pursued but didn't because of the pursuit of a non-qualifier?
Coach Beamer and company have been and continue to be advocates of the student-athlete. Even when a player that they have signed has a career threatening injury, they stand behind their scholarship offer. This staff led by this coach spells integrity in so many cases over the years. You can trust what Coach Beamer says.... even when you disagree with him, you can still trust him and that his motives are good ones.
Once a HOKIE, always a HOKIE - ask Sweet Feet, G-Bell, and so many other young men who have gone through the program.
So the last perspective on recruiting non-qualifying athletes is policy driven. Does the Athletic Department have a policy in place or not?
You knew things were going to be bad when the bypassed him for anybody else on the team that could throw the ball when they were in the middle of a playoff run. And then in the playoffs too. I think he only threw like 8 passes last season, one for a TD that the WR broke.
Too bad. At least he got paid some money to be a professional QB, might be time to line up at TE if you want that 8-10 year run in the league.
The fact that its even close doesn't bode well for Logan.
He should be making strides towards getting playing time. The fact its essentially a tossup between a guy who was a 4th round pick and an undrafted rookie who until recently didn't realize his vision was so bad he needed corrective lenses is telling. Logan was brought in to be groomed into the next starter a few years down the line, and if he keeps progressing like this, he might not even be backup QB material down the line. Not good.

Yeah I really appreciate these jerseys more and more now. I would say maybe modernize the lettering (the font) but other than that keep it like that. It has a nice old school feel like Alabama's, but yet it's classy. Plus it speaks to who we are, a humble, blue collar, Southern football tradition.

it's not basically, that's what I did and added in my take on the players in parenthesis. figured since people were talking about it might as well include the player's names.
when talking about recruiting you are not going to find many "evidence based reasons". I'd put money on his take for the Richmond kids (taylor, Ferrell and felton davis) as he's very connected down there especially at Benedictine. He also left off darvin taylor from that area who was thought to be a hokie lean early in the process but picked FSU.
I misread the comments above ours that led to it. I was thinking that they went elsewhere because our rosters had younger talent and was pointing out we rotate a lot but that is not relevant now that I realize what the discussion was on.
I have actually seen the "XITLITE" tag. I saw it driving on 66 near East Falls Church/Arlington one afternoon. It's on a big black pickup truck and the driver is indeed a Hokie (I *think* there was a big VT on the back window).
I wanted to take a picture, but he was one lane over and couldn't get behind him with the traffic.
