I'm not walking any line. I'm being figurative. Jim Weaver wanted to play out his contract, Virginia Tech wanted him to retire. As a result, they came up with an amicable solution that got Jim Weaver out of the AD role, while still giving him most of the money in his contract.
Call that whatever you want, they paid him money to leave. If they hadn't done that, Whit wouldn't be AD right now, Buzz wouldn't be MBB coach right now, and board traffic would be relatively low. All I know is thank god they did it, it was beyond time.

The Record Exchange was awesome. I can't even attempt to figure out how many hours I wasted looking through the used CD bins. You also got those sampler CDs when you bought something. Crossroads was also across the street when I was there (where Moe's is now). Great time to be a music junkie.

I'm not ignoring the fact that he's battling a pretty nasty illness. Everyone knows that, and he's been battling it for a long time. I think it's had a impact on his job performance for a long time as well. I also think he thought he could continue to do the job and planned to until the very last day of his last contract. Therefore any move he made, like in hiring JJ, was made because he thought it was the best move, not because he was being generous to his successor in two years by framing it with a lower buyout (which would have been on top of the other buyout). That was my original point - hiring JJ wasn't some part of some sort of master succession plan. It was a hiring completely in line with all of his previous hires, and he wasn't actually planning on retiring now - he was planning on being here the length of his contract.
As important as Enter Sandman is, I think they should have stopped after ...And Justice for All. That way we could have possibly ended up using For Whom the Bell Tolls as entrance music.

I listened to there "piohgd" album a lot at VT. They had one song called "Lonesome Bulldog" that was a folksy little ditty about Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick. There are four versions of this song on the album. Each version gets more and more processed and distorted as the album goes on.
I got it at the Record Exchange. Anybody remember that place, it used to be next to The Cellar. That place was awesome. Ask them for anything, no matter how obscure, and it would show up in about a week and they didn't charge extra. You just got this little pink postcard in the mail telling you it was there. Keep in mind that this was in the early to mid 90's. I didn't really listen to the radio so my tastes were a bit obscure. I listened to mostly Industrial, Metal, and Punk at the time so this place was perfect for me to get whatever I wanted. They also had listening stations where you could listen to whatever you wanted before you bought it. I discovered a ton of great music this way that I would have never picked-up otherwise. They also bought and sold used CDs and tapes (I said this was in the early to mid 90s). I loved that place. I just looked at Google Maps and it looks like its location was taken over by The Cellar. I guess it was inevitable, since record stores have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

well, basically the storms a little bigger than I initially thought, I'm currently in my GIS lab doing some undergrad research so i really cant break it down to much mostly because...well i have 10 days to do an entire research poster.
Regardless, I thought temperatures would be a little higher than they actually are. This difference of my predicted 5 degree difference results in a change from a wintry mix to what we have now. Temperatures are still a little to high for serious problems. For instance as I'm sure you can see, snow is struggling to build up on roads and some sidewalks. This is because the roads have held in some extra heat. also temperatures are hovering right now, right around 30. They should be increasing but due to the amount of snowfall we're seeing its actually cooling the air around us which is usually referred to as the wet bulb. this is dropping temperatures low enough in some areas for accumulation. If you look at a radar you can see that dry socket i always talk about, riiiiiiiiiiight over central virginia and richmond. it barely missed us. like BARELY. we definitely got the worst of this. Virginia beach and that region are getting rain and central virginia is getting nothing and the valley is getting more snow than most meteorologists thought. The vast majority of the storm however is offshore check out the radars if you get the chance if that thing had developed sooner we would have been looking at quite the snow event in blacksburg again. so i guess we can count ourselves lucky there.
i do expect this snow to stop by 10 and youll start seeing winds REALLY pick up this evening. were talking like 30 MPH gusts over night before things start warming up. by the weekend itll be in the 50s and its looking like theres going to be some rain coming through thursday night/friday morning and most of the day friday. All of this snow should be gone by friday afternoon soooooooooo i guess thats good news.
After speaking with a few other meteorologists im really glad im not the only one who thought this thing was going to miss us only to be bitch-slapped into oblivion by mother nature
