I always viewed it as parody. The official name is "The Ohio State University," and they make a big deal out of the "The" whenever they say it. For instance, when their marching band (which is admittedly awesome) makes their entrance, the PA announcer says the "The" more prominently than anything else. So tOSU, I always thought, is an effort to represent their true acronym, but reduces the "The" to minor status, rather than the emphasis they always put on it.
I'm enjoying all the updates to this thread.

Quarterback Kai Locksley also in Chicago Maroon and Orange.

Single A player out of Galax isn't gonna have a lot of scouts on him regardless of what he does. As far as I know the only scholarship player I've ever seen come out of that district is Coleman Thomas to Tennessee. Been a few decent walk-ons though.
I thought it was us winning games and sending guys to the pros and #ChoppingWood that had more to do with it than Stiney.
Adam Friedman (@RivalsFriedman) got this picture of Tim Settle (the number 1 DT recruit for VT) and elite tackle prospect Matthew Burrell together in Orange and Maroon. This is a good picture.

Notice how when they give recruits the jerseys to try on, they're always maroon jerseys?

Why do I imagine a 9th ACC game for VT somehow being a rematch with BC? Please do not do this.
Also would love if they got rid of the cross-division rivals altogether and just did a rotation.
thought the students had a fairly decent turnout and a somewhat spirited section
HAHAHAHA! YOU'RE KIDDING, RIGHT?

ahhhh, so forget that idea!
I'd prefer the 9 game sched too. The ACC should be working to establish itself on its own terms and in its own right, not jockeying for position as an SEC fluffer.
We can still play them OOC.
It's easy to forget Stinespring is the recruiting coordinator and is probably directly responsible for the second and now third junior days happening.
Man how cool would it be if Chancellor, Worrilds, and Anderson were there to greet them?
Then shouldn't it be Tosu?
how is playing 50% of your football games against teams between VA and Boston being "back in the BigEast"? i hate this argument. we will still be in a league with and play teams from NC to Florida. no other sport would be impacted by any divisional alignment in football.
leaving the BigEast for the ACC had very little to do with who we play in football. it was about TV revenue, olympic sports stability, and prestige. period.
with the current coastal/atlantic split and an 8 game schedule, VT plays BC, Pitt, uva, UNC, Dook, GT and Miami annually with only 1 game vs cuse/l'ville/ncsu/wake/clemson/FSU
if you go North/South while adding a 9th game, VT plays BC, Pitt, uva, still plus cuse and 3 of UNC/dook/Wake/l'ville/Miami depending on how you define the North plus THREE of the remaining southern schools.
it's a wash at worst for football, and has zero impact on other sports IMO.

I don't think the SEC game per year would work with many team in the ACC besides the teams already with sec rivalries. What I'd prefer is that all the ACC teams use that game to schedule a non confence rival that makes geographic sense for them. Like Pitt-PSU, VT-WVU, UVA-ODU (because of CML's love for the 757), Syracuse- Rutgers, BC- UCONN, NCSU- East Carolina, UNC- UT. Duke-Stanford (Bit of a stretch for sure), Miami- UCF (?), and of course the other teams with SEC rivalries. I know this is highly idealized, but I think people like Syracuse would much rather play Rutgers than say Ole Miss. Just my 2 cents

# | Bitter blog - Would you rather see a 9-game ACC schedule or a yearly ACC-SEC matchup? ACC-SEC so we don't have to hear how our schedule is bad because the ACC is bad
Ah yes. The "legendary" Ricky Bomb Stokes era. Damn.
ACC-SEC, but in a best vs. best and worst vs. worst format, home one year, away the next. Make it the last Saturday in September. There are not enough "fits" to do the same team every year. The other big improvement would be eliminating divisions so more ACC teams play each other. Something in the ballpark of Andy's idea would be a major improvement and makes so much economic sense.
The bottom line is that a diverse and quality schedule is how the declining ticket sales are going to be fixed.
Dude, I know! Was just about to point it out! Def reminds me of Ken Fuller and the refs.
9 acc games. I want either clemson or florida state on the schedule every year.
There is no guarantee that the SEC will be the best conference in the land every year. Playing an arkansas, kentucky, the mississippis on their down years wouldn't do it for me.
