Boston College running back Montel Harris, who enters his final season within striking distance of the
conference's 33-year-old record for career rushing yardage, is the preseason Player of the Year.
The Seminoles of coach Jimbo Fisher, who won the Atlantic last year, received 65 of 71 first-place votes in that portion of the balloting. Fifty of the 65 also said Florida State will prevail in the title game, set for Dec. 3 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
The Hokies, who have won three of the first six championship contests, got 66 votes in the Coastal election.
Eighteen electors picked Tech to repeat as ACC champion.
Harris, who enters this fall with 3,600 career rushing yards, the most of any ACC player after his junior
season, as chosen by 26 media representatives, with FSU quarterack EJ Manuel second with 14 votes. Harris' teammate Luke Kuechly, a 2010 unanimous All-America linebacker selection, was third with 12 votes.
This fall, Harris will be chasing the Atlantic Coast Conference career rushing record of 4,602 yards, set in 1978 by NC State All-America Ted Brown.

BOSTON. COLLEGE. Child, please.
But seriously...
But seriously...
I like the FSU hype. Our boys always seem to play hard to prove the doubters wrong.
Not surprising
Not surprising at all...since the AP has been so high on FSU along with ESPN I was surprised they actually lost eighteen votes to us for ACC Champions. Though I think FSU will be good I still wouldn't be shocked if they don't even reach Charlotte. Media hype like this affects different teams in different ways. A couple of times FSU was picked to win the Atlantic they didn't even win five ACC games and last year they needed serious help to reach Charlotte. Though they got serious talent people have short memories as to a couple of already piss poor showings in big games for FSU just eight months ago.
In terms of the Preseason POY that is kind of what I expected as well. Harris is definitely the best pure RB in the ACC (outside of DW...he's just the best all round player in the conference while eating some Chick-Fil-A on Sundays- whole other level). Though the award doesn't usually go to defensive players I was truly shocked and rather disappointed that Jayron Hosley didn't even get a vote. He's arguably the best cover corner in the ACC and in the nation! Should give more motivation to team to prove these people just as last year to prove them right.
It frustrates me that Florida
It frustrates me that Florida State continues to get hype despite the fact that we waxed them in that same game not eight months ago. The only reason the score and stat lines were so close was because we really started to celebrate at the start of the fourth. E.J. Manuel was not super impressive until the game was no longer in doubt, and considering how much better our defense should be this year, I don't see how FSU is head-and-shoulders better than us. Oh well, we'll prove the voters wrong like normal and show 'em all in Charlotte!
Recruiting
Recruiting
My bet is that they are getting such lofty praise and preseason hype because of the killer recruiting years that they have had of late. We all know that the number of stars projected on a recruit doesn't always translate to being nasty on Saturdays.
Also, I get the feeling from just listening to national media that they are hungry for a new story in the ACC, new blood to rise to the top. How sweet would it be to prove that the Title still rolls through Southwestern VA.
I thought E.J. Manuel played
I thought E.J. Manuel played well enough considering it was his first time on the big stage. If we had a returning starter at QB too, I think the voting would have been much closer between VT-FSU. Also, we all believe Foster will fix the D (and he will), but the media has to be more skeptical based on returning personel.
Either way, let them get all the hype. We play the part of the underdog better than the favorite.
I agree on most...
I agree on most...
Miz I agree on most points and to be perfectly frank though I hope they beat Oklahoma I definitely don't see it happening. In fact I see this becoming like the Miami-Ohio State games of the last two years: incredibly over-hyped. OU will have a test through the first half but then should pull away. People have been making some gruff on the fact that FSU D-coordinator is Stoops brother; however, that works two ways. Another waxing? I hope not for the sake of the ACC but I am also not holding my breath for a big OOC win for the ACC.
Let's give EJ some credit though. He did play well (not great) when called upon and helped get them to Charlotte last year (also thanks to all the last minute upsets in the Atlantic Division). You do have a great point about the ACCCG: he really didn't show up until our second stringers were getting some serious P.T. Remove that game but he's still a top five QB in the ACC which isn't saying much. He has a solid arm (though prone to some questionable decisions) with mobility but he's no Tyrod, Vick (x2), or Randall. Like I said in my earlier post I am not going to be surprised if FSU has either one or five losses going into Championship weekend. Personally taking the VT love out I just think that FSU is another over-hyped ACC team that will start top 10 but finish in the teens or the twenties. Serious talent but there's always something...familiar story?
Good Points Duffman
Good Points Duffman
If we're talking in the scope of ACC Quarterbacks, I still think Manuel is in the top 3 (O'Brien and Thomas would be my other two picks), even including that performance, but I don't think people should point to THAT game to show off his ability. The Gator Bowl performance two years ago was probably a better representation of what he's able to do.
It will be interesting to see if FSU can put up a fight against OU for more than two quarters, I agree that it will probably turn into another UM/OSU-type game, but I'm praying it's not.
I think O'Brien is going to
I think O'Brien is going to regress, big time, under Gary Crowton and Randy Edsall. Neither of them can sniff the track record that the Fridge had developing quarterbacks or scheme a passing attack like the big man.
I'm interested to see how good Mike Glennon is in year one. Contrary to Edsall and Crowton Tom O'Brien and Dana Bible are adept at developing QBs, and have confidence in him after letting Wilson go. I wouldn't be shocked if he and Sean Renfree are the best pure passers in the ACC.
I'm with ya. Let's just go
I'm with ya. Let's just go take it...who cares if anyone thinks we can!
more of the same

It's fine...hype them up all they want, and I hope they stomp Oklahoma too (which honestly I think is a tad overhyped also). It would be great for the league and us as well if there is a big title game in December. It will be bigger than the 2005 Miami game...hopefully with a different outcome of course.

Singing their war chant and doing the chop for the first time was pure awesome, and never gets old.
So good.
So good.
I hate Seminoles...Seminoles f*** animals was the chant in the North Endzone from what I remember :)
