'Staches for Success

Various styles of facial hair have been used throughout history to identify a man's sense of ruggedness or allure. From the gangly beard to the artsy goatee these styles help paint a picture of the type of man one sees. None however, are as downright intimidating as the 'stache. Reserved mainly for the blue collar, not afraid to get his hands dirty, kind of guy. He rocks the face broom with pride knowing that at the end of the day, whatever task lay before him will be done with the utmost effort and due dilligence.

It is by no suprise then that the Godfather of the Lunchpail Defense, Bud Foster, or Mr. Smashmouth football himself in Bruce Smith have adorned these misplaced eyebrows of intensity. Their type of look and ferocity is everything we have loved about Virginia Tech football. It isn't flashy or mysterious, it just gets the job done with whatever tools it has at it's disposal.

Now that the team has stumbled through a 3-3 start, it is to some as if that identity has shaken. Out of all the complaints and disappointments heard the last few weeks none have been more rampant regarding the lack of attitude or aggressiveness on the field that fans have grown accustomed to. Not swagger or ego, but a mental toughness and confidence witnessed throughout the countless classes of football players brought through the system.

Therefore, before the game on Saturday I had almost fallen into the same pity party many had so quickly and stubbornly gone. Until I saw Andrew Miller. Like a sign from the football gods telling us that there was still hope, his shining face popped on the screen with one of the goofiest yet glorious cookie dusters I have seen. Although the ship has somewhat strayed its course there is still much more football left to play. And if a guy like Andrew Miller believes, I believe. To show my support for him, the team, and all that is Hokie football. I have donned this week 'Staches for Success and will strut my very own until Homecoming against Duke whether I look like an asshole or not.

Ladies and gentlemen alike, feel free to join me in my cause with a pic of your dedication to "Staches for Success. After all, we all need a little fun again.
