Georgia Tech and Louisville Swapping Divisions?

Let me preface this by saying nothing is confirmed, and as far as I know Jason Staples doesn't have a history of reporting breaking news, nor is he affiliated with any major media outlet. So the following is nothing more than a rumor that has seemingly been squashed by ESPN's Heather Dinich.

However, it is February, and it is an interesting scenario to talk about, because there's no football happening any time soon.

Would you rather have Louisville or Georgia Tech in the division? Does your answer change if we could replace Boston College as our cross-divisional opponent with either Georgia Tech or Clemson?

Georgia Tech

is a fun team to play in that it is usually such a grueling match-up and has decided the Coastal race for a good many years. I'd rather switch the cross-divisional rivalry with Boston College out for Lul'ville.

Seems like someone wants to suck up to FSU

Giving them GT would cut down on their travel and give the Noles one less thing to complain about.

GT

I'd rather keep GT in the coastal. Though I could see an interesting rivalry sparking with Louisville if they were to stay relevant...

I think keeping GT in the Coastal will give the Coastal battle an event to watch every year because it is the Techno Bowl and the winner (typically) goes on to represent the Coastal in the ACCCG.

BUT, with UNC off probation, I expect to see UNC being in the mix next fall before taking a bit of a dive until Fedora has his own recruit in his system.

Boston College have never brought anything to the ACC...until Syracuse and Pittsburgh were brought aboard, giving the Chestnut Hill alumni some natural geographic rival. It's just too bad that the administration in Boston can't suck it up and bring on UConn, which apparently have bad blood between those two.

I think Louisville is a great addition for the conference. In basketball, who would love to watch Pitino, Williams, and K engage each other in chess matches? Awesome TV bonanza for sure. I like what Charlie Strong has done for the football program, and if he stay there, he might make Louisville the next Virginia Tech, IMO.

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

Why?

Minus the ease of ONE team, putting GT in the ACC Atlantic does nothing. If the Conference is going to do that then just do the ACC North and ACC South divisions (with Atlantic and Coastal names); however, no one wants that at all, particularly VT and UVA fans. It would literally be all old Big East teams and UVA. Terrible.

Hokies, NY Rangers, NY Jets, NY Mets (sigh), USA Hockey, Richmond Renegades (R.I.P)

Well if Dinich said it

It's gotta be true.

I think Loo-ville is still on the upswing and GT is definitely headed down the toilet (which I love). Seems like the ACC is trying to make the divisions more regional...

Then BC and Miami should swap. And, then trade Syracuse with one of the NC teams. Now it would be regionalized. Although, ACC North would be more dispersed and travel more than ACC south.

My Dad is a GT Grad

I grew up GT but I went to VT and love being a Hokie. I love this family rivalry. I would hate to see it go.

Personally GT and Miami are my two favorite teams to play in the Coastal. Those games are usually worth watching. UNC and Duke I just don't really care about and UVA...well... LOLUVA.

Anyone see the GT USC game. GT's defense looked fantastic. There was an opening for their DC position after Groh was fired and Charles Kelly stepped up. He has since moved on to be linebackers coach at FSU. After leaving the preseason #1 USC offense stutterin, I think that was a big lose. His blizt packages were better than anything I have seen at GT before. Not quite as good as Foster though. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I would want to stick with GT.

We joined the ACC to play ACC teams. Louisville is not an ACC team.

Hell, they weren't even Big East

when we GTFO'd. Good Ole' Conference USA...

But, at this point they have shown their worth as an athletic program recently, in basketball and football at least. They do have more BCS Bowl wins than us, though we've played in 3 times as many...

Maybe Maryland is looking for some OOC action. Would that make it better? ACC is not the same. Calling L'ville not an ACC team is a little like the pot calling the kettle black.

If we keep GT

can we require that they re-hire AlGroh?

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

VT4SEC

Hopefully this isn't relevant for long. SEC within 5 years would be lovely.

I think they should just redo the divisions after Maryland leaves and Louisville joins.

I love Virginia Tech, regardless of the outcome of every game.

I'd give anything to get a new cross division rival

If we could play GT as our cross division foe, I'd be pleased.
