That is the problem. He has freshman at wideout & TE, a none existent running game, and a makeshift offensive line that has been ok. Loeffler has to put everything on Logan because the supporting cast is just not there yet. Because of this our offense will go as far as Logan will take it. If he has a bad day then the entire offense will not be successful because he is our leading rusher and passer.
Loeffler is weaning our team off of relying on our QB being superman, so its not going to happen over night. I have a feeling things will improve with Leal next year because is more of scrambler then a bowling ball, but I expect 2014 to be the year when this offense explodes. It is going to take time, but the foundation of a good offense is there.

"Loeffler is weaning our team off of relying on our QB being superman" - Heard that story before... just replace Loeffler with Stiney.
You beat me to the Superman point, but that's something that stuck out to me too.
I completely agree that our offense's success is tied directly to Logan's performance. Live by LT, die by LT sort of thing. But to your other point about how Loeffler is weaning the offense from its dependence on Logan having to be super man, I just haven't seen it. I really did like incorporating Trey Edmunds into the passing game more though.
My point is that we are working with what we have right now. Which as any VT fan can attest is scrambling QBs that need to be superman and has been for a long time.
I suspect Leal will start next year which will improve our offense because he has more speed for a scrambler, but by 2014 I feel we are going to have an good O-line and a descent drop back Quarterback with either Bucky Hodges (he is somewhat of a semi scrambler) or Andrew Ford (Who I think will probably win the starting job). Either way, VT will have quarterbacks that have 2 to 3 years to digest the playbook and feel comfortable in the offense, plus we will have an improved offensive line (I love the new Oline recruits we have coming in).
You threw me off in your initial post, but now I understand. I assume you mean 2015 if you are saying that Leal will start next year. I do agree that 2015 should be the year that things should be clicking on offense. No more square peg in round hole stuff. Grimes should have built the line his way, Loeffler should have players who have fully bought in and invested in his scheme and playbook, and we should see more production. I think the hard part to swallow right now is that we know we have talent on the roster, but it's either not being utilized properly or it's not being set up to succeed.
I definitely am not disagreeing with your post. I fully understand that this season Logan has been forced to be a one man show. It really isn't fair to him, the team, the defense or the fan base. Learning a new offensive system with new coaches has to be challenging as a senior so I try not to be too critical of Logan even though I do question his decision making at times. I place more blame on the coaches (past for talent drop off and present for not being creative) for not figuring out another way to move the football by this point in the season. I just have trouble believing that we don't have another offensive play maker somewhere in the program. However, it is hard to find a hidden gem of a play maker when you don't have a clear offensive identity. I am excited to see how SL pulls things together for the remainder of the season and I am even more excited to see what is possible with the talent we have coming in. Fingers crossed. Go Hokies
Yes I did mean 2015, sorry for the mix-up. Right now our offensive line is not good enough, and it has been the Achilles heal for the offense ever since I became a Hokie. It is not a coincidence that when we play big boy defensive lines that Pitt or BC has or had in the past that we always seem to lose.
The reason you run veer offenses or scrambling QBs is to make up for your O-line. This is also another reason Glennon ultimately failed. If Grimes stays for a while (his track record of staying at one place is not to promising) I am sure he can get the right players in to turn it around.
You bring up a great point about the future of the program when you mention Grimes sticking around. Weaver is on the way out, Frank is getting old and our offensive leadership is a giant question mark at this point. We even will have a new President soon which will be responsible for filling vacancies in the athletic department. It is concerning to say the least. We will see significant change in the future for better or for worse.
Big changes are going to happen in the next decade, and we could go from a formidable team to a non-factor if the right decisions aren't made. I think if we keep our staff intact for the next 5 years we have a legitimate chance to compete for a National Title.
Beyond that is a big question mark. I would like to think that Bud would make a good head coach, because players love playing for him, but there is the Muschamp factor, where he could be to hands on with the defense, and not have any clue with what to do with the offense.
That is yet to be seen, but in the perfect world Franks wins his National Title and rides on into the sunset and we have a smooth transition like FSU did (though Bowden didn't do so hot before leaving), but we have someone like Jimbo Fisher ready to take the reigns.
