Thoughts on Pitt

Just curious to see how everyone is feeling about Pitt this week. After a good game against UNC last week that the crowd really showed up for, I think it's time for the Hokies to end this losing streak to the Panthers. Here are a few thoughts/keys that I've been considering:

  • Pitt's Receiving Corps: Devin Street and Tyler Boyd are both averaging over 100 yards/game and look to be on their way to All ACC honors. The O&M secondary will have their work cut out for them. If Antone plays on Saturday, there will be kids at the Day Care that will need his undivided attention. The Hokie secondary will do well if...
  • The Hokie front seven wreak havoc in the backfield. Cavman's Crew sacked Pitt QB Tom Savage 7 times and in the process, knocked him out with a concussion (he wasn't wearing a Hokie Stone Brain Bucket). I hope to see Gayle, MANBEARPIG, Big Lu, etc. to have a big game and pad the Hokie stat numbers. I also have a hunch that Dadi will somehow be involved in putting points on the board. If they cause problems up front, look to see our good turnover margin go up and Logan's Fuller-Adjusted Interceptions to go down.
  • Finally, I know I speak for all of us here on TKP when I say that I'm elated that Rushel Shell won't be in Blacksburg this weekend. Nothing personal, Rushel, but what you did to the collective Hokie confidence in our defense last season was not cool, bro. I hope you're enjoying Morganhole.

I wish I could be at the game this weekend to see the streak end. To anyone going: have fun, stay loud, and Beat Pitt.

This is where the stats start floating out the window. Given the recent history with Pitt, I just want to beat them. We've lost 4 straight to them, in all which we were ranked in the top 15. They have our number, just like we have GiT's number. Just win baby!!!!! Logan, show up. D, flatten them for 60 minutes!!!!!!

just as vtnerf said, mostly all I want is a win. But after a solid defensive performance against GT and a solid offensive outing against UNC...I would like to put the two together and dominate Pitt. But they can not be overlooked, but this is moot as this team has been very good about focusing on each week at a time.

I don't just want a win. I want pure, utter, annihilation.

And I want it to not stop until Russel Shell shows up from wherever and kneels down on the 50 yd line tearfully exclaiming, "I'm sorry!!! I take it back!!! I take it all back!!!"

I want to see the Pitt QB, Savage, at the post game press thing to say, "On this day, I am truly sorry that my father and mother ever met."

(But a win is cool, too.)

Leonard. Duh.

haha... I am oddly digging the aggressive nature of ALL your posts. Not sure if that is real or an intentional persona as with HOAT, but you should definitely change your picture to something that looks upset. +1

It's not odd to dig the nature of my posts.

This guy, ...I like this guy

I want to beat them but I really want to lay a physical whooping on them. I want both lines to dominate them. I want big hits. I want hard running from our guys. I want to see them scared to run the next play.

Yeah this game is all superstition for me and no stats (lets face it I know nothing about them anyway). I feel that all we have to do is execute and we should be fine. Exum potentially returning is still making me nervous though...

Think we could get some of these printed up in O&M?

Tyler Boyd is the real deal. I've seen Pitt a few times this year and the kid can flat out play. He'll be by far the best receiver we face this year outside of Cooper (and Watkins in the ACCCG).

Then I can't wait to see either Fuller, Exum or Facyson do this all day!

BLOCK'D!

As a side note, I saw Fuller make a nearly identical play against UNC. Magic!

It was amazing! I want to see more!

I could watch that all day. He's done that a couple times this year. You really can't defend a pass any better.

Tone was out there on the practice fields doing what he does. I think we we finally see him dress and take some snaps this weekend.

I wouldn't sleep on Stefon Diggs though.

Matter of fact, I'd love for Fuller, Fuller, AND Facyson to knock passes away from Stefon Diggs all day. "You don't come here, you won't catch a pass here either!"

Just realized that he and Kendall were HS teammates. Don't know how I didn't know.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Need to beat them. Not only for the sake of winning the conference, but for all the pain and anguish they've caused us the last dozen years!

Savage scares me he can spin his bean really well! Needs to be on his back early and often.

yeah that's what we called it when I was playing hs ball in the early 80's! watched the pitt game vs loluva and savage looked good throwing. I agree w what is posted below that we should be able to get sacks especially if cancerville (I don't take that word lightly my sister died from the shit but playing off what eli Harold was quoted saying about his team which is funny and sad for them ) was able to get 7.

"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time!"

The advantage we have is that Savage is a pocket passer. Bud will rain the blitzes down and the wrath of Tyler, Edwards, Gayle, Collins, #MANBEARPIG, et al will be felt. Dare I say that we will ravage the Savage?

My worry is that Pitt will be able to set up some nasty screen's to defeat the blitz. But other than Boyd & Streeter do they actually have anybody that can catch the ball out of the backfield for a screen?

On the other hand, #LOLUVA got 7 sacks against their OL. Foster may just rush 4 and only blitz sparingly. Seriously though, if they got 7 we need to get at least 8. Or 10. Or 14.

I don't think we'll get as many sacks as LOLUVA did simply because the QB will be ready for it. They'll have prepared him (I imagine) by having people scream at him or something if he doesn't get rid of the ball or run with it in 2-3 seconds.

I say we get like 5-6 sacks, with about 15-20 TFL because he will technically be running with it. I also anticipate at least 1 Intentional Grounding penalty, and let's give it a large range, but 2-6 interceptions.

With this secondary and their shaky QB, you know Bud's gonna bring the pressure!

Now there's this Saturday's T-shirt. "Ravage the Savage", lol.

Pitt. PIttsburgh. aPm (Pittsburgh on the Allengany and Monogahela). The Western University of Pennsylvania.
They wanted to be called the full name "Pittsburgh", not Pitt. Everyone laughed it off to the extent that they actual caved and now accept the name Pitt. Call me, maybe? From here on out, I will refer to them at aPm since I cannot post my actual name for them...

They are always dangerous, as has been seen with the 4 straight wins over us ranked in the top 15 every year. They are near the top tier for dislike in the ACC. (Miami, BC, Murland. Would even put them above LOLUVa.) Actually, I think the ACC brought them in just to taunt us and keep Tech in check given what they have done with us recently. (Think about it, none of them have been able to do so!!!) I hate seeing them on the schedule because I know its going to be a fight, and very likely I won't like the outcome.

'12: 5-5 after loss
'03: 1-4 after loss
'02: 2-3 after loss
'01: 2-2 after loss

'98-'00: 12-5 after wins.

I know its going back some time, but it seems that aPm in the middle of the season sets the tone for the rest of the year for us. We lose, it goes downhill from there. We win, we are playing at higher level afterwards. Just think back to last season...we were ranked 13th (prob not deserved, but hey, it we were...) After losing to aPm, we go on to lose to Cincy and UNC in 2 of the next 3 weeks. Ok, you get the point. Let's go out and win one this weekend!!!!

I like this sense of urgency.

We had to beat GT. We had to beat UNC. We have to beat Pitt. (Not only for redemption but for our ACC Title hopes) Still have Duke, BC, Miami, Maryland, and UVA.

In the past years some of these games have been disregarded completely. This year I feel like it's different. Every week is a must win. Logan has something to prove for the NFL. The new coaching staff has something to prove. The inexperienced RBs and WRs have something to prove. The defense has its tradition and pride on the line. Frank is still trying to prove he has what it takes to compete at an elite level.

So far I love the feeling of this season. It has been ugly but this may turn out to be one of the most memorable I've ever witnessed.

Because, if it goes correctly, it will be earned! In years past, there were 6-8 games that were "givens". Not this year.

Shane has something to prove.

Beamer has something to prove.
Foster has......wait. Scratch that one.

Foster always aims to prove this:
