UVA Fans Cause Cancer

The AP published an article yesterday detailing some of UVA's football woes. Full article can be found here. There's plenty of interesting stuff, though:

"We were very confident coming off the field on that drive," defensive end Eli Harold said, "but they came back and responded," driving 83 yards in five plays for a go-ahead touchdown run.

"That really got us down and we never got back up," Harold said.

So, you get hit in the mouth and you fold? I can't help but read more into that statement- a lack of coaching and a lack of heart.

More from Eli Harold:

"That's why we we're like hanging our heads, you know, and a couple guys got beat, and during the whole course of the game, those guy that were getting beat were just hanging their heads. The energy was horrible. (Safeties coach Anthony Poindexter) was yelling at us. No one was ... I don't know what it was."

"No one was ... I don't know what it was."

The frailty of the Cavaliers' confidence wasn't helped by the crowd, Harold said. The announced attendance of 38,228 was the smallest at Scott Stadium since 2010, and it was vocally negative.

"There was not that many people at the game," Harold said. "The crowd behind us is yelling at us, I mean, they're our fans. It's like they're for the other team. And that all comes in play to winning.

"Like I said, when you hear things, it causes a cancer and causes you to act a certain way."

And when the results are like they were last week, he said, it makes you not want to do it again.

Wowzers. Eli Harold is a great talent. We recruited him hard. We were disappointed he didn't come to Blacksburg (can you imagine what he might have been able to accomplish in Bud Foster's system?). You can hear the sorrow in his words - the disappointment with the effort, with the fans, with just about everything. You almost feel sorry for the guy.

Almost.

Keep sellin' that dream, Head Ball Cop.

This comment needs to remain at 38-0, bro.

EDIT: Awww boo someone ruined it

However many Turkey legs this gets is what the final score of this years game against LOLUVa is gonna be

Nobody cared who I was until I put on this mask

jeez 3-0

what a snoozer

Onward and upward

Pretty sure he was talking about RealDiehl's turkey leg count. 49-0 at this point. Defense must have 6 pick 6s at this point.

Now that it's 50, the defense probably decided to go for two after their final touchdown.

Nice try to get more legs.

BWHAHAHAHAHAH suffer UVA suffer

Where's the Cartman/SP gif of "Yes. Yes. I can taste your tears"??

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

Yeah it might be tempting to feel sorry for him, but he made his choice - he chose his path - Hope other highschool players are paying attention. You can go to UVA to try to "start" something, or you can take the proven path.....

Fortune Favors the Bold

My thoughts exactly. I hope recruits are reading this.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

Players calling out fans always signals great things for a program

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

Instead of writing letters to recruits that we are battling UVA for can we just send them this article

Go Hokies and Philly Sports

So when Mike London gets fired, and the hoos bring in their future ex-coach, I wonder what Quin Blanding and Andrew Brown will say...

I hope they don't have to worry about it. I hope they see the writing on the wall and make a healthy decision for themselves.

Fortune Favors the Bold

it makes you not want to do it again.

But yet, they still attempt to play football....

I have a hoo cousin and her husband that go to every home game. They even have a condo in c'ville for every game weekend. That's dedication there.

Having lived in Va pretty much all my life, I've noticed that many of hardest-core cav fans didn't even go there. They can be as lewd and crude as any other.

VT Nation to UVA recruits/players in regards to going to play for UVA: "Hate to say i told you so but, I told ya so"

@VTimHokie85

Question: If Brown were to renege(sp?) on his commitment to UVA and instead want to come to Tech, would we even welcome him here? I've always said I want kids that want to be at VT so I think I'd say, sorry, but the offer is no longer available to you

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I think we'd still take him. Our coaching staff is more likely to be able to seperate themselves from any "rivalry" or message trying to be sent.

But I wouldn't blame us if we didn't take him.

Indeed "rivalry".

"rivalry"

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Though I would not down vote this, as it is your opinion, I respectfully disagree. If a kid comes to the realization that VT is the better place for him, then I say, good for him. That shows the ability to analyze the situation and make the correct call. And why would we not want someone like that?

Fortune Favors the Bold

I see what you're saying, but I would make the argument that you have plenty of time to see that VT is superior during the recruiting process. But I will admit that I have so much disdain for UVA that it just bugs me that someone of his caliber would pick UVA over Tech, so I'm being a little harsh in my opinion

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I'd take him for 3 reasons:

1) He's hella talented and would do wonders in Bud's system
2) DT is a position of need in this class
3) It's ALWAYS fun to take a player away from UVA

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

All fair points. I've come to realize that I just need to stop being personally offended when a kid chooses UVA over us. Turkey leg

Id still take him. VT was still in his top 3. He was just brain washed somehow. I wouldn't take Blanding for he showed no interest what so ever

@VTimHokie85

Well we all know where the brainwashing originated. These guys think they are going to go into C'ville and create this "dynasty" off of 4 or 5 highly ranked players..they aren't seeing the big picture that it takes 30-40 good players to make a team great. Will they make an impact? I'm sure, but this isn't basketball, you can't ride the coat tail of 2 extremely good players and expect to be unbeatable.

Not necessarily. The offer doesn't stand forever. When he committed, they likely took what would have been his scholarship and offered it to someone else.

Has a man open...caught! Danny Coale!

1) If we have enough scholarships in the class for him, and:
2) If we haven't already filled our DT quota for the year, and:
3) If he seems like the kind of kid we want then

Sure.

If:
1) He flushed our offer letter down the toilet or
2) Seems like he's only out for himself then

No.

Having said that:
1) I would love to steal a 5 star from UVA
2) We need to bring in every elite VA recruit we can

If it came down to him or Nnadi.

How the UVA higher ups in the atheltic department can read this and keep the cop is beyond me. This kid sounds defeated, and not just by Ball State, but by his "fans" and coaches.

I hope all their recruits read this. If I were in their shoes, I would definitely be looking elsewhere. This does not sound like a fun atmospthere at all.

Keep on being you UVA.

I'm also pretty sure that my family members that do go to cavs games aren't going to be the ones verbally berated their own players. They're more the type to just sit down and mope.

It's interesting. UVA is really...hehe...bad...hehe...

On Andrew, that ship had sailed. I can almost hear the pitch. "You're the one we will shoulder our team on. You're the man"

Whereas at Tech: "you'll be a cog in a system. You will be no stronger and no weaker than the guy beside you or behind you. We will take you to levels you guys have never achieved. But, don't get it twisted. You're a machine running a machine. Team. Win."

It's simple. Meangelo's aside, we are a different unit than the other squad. It's where you go from 7-6 to 5-1 partially based on new cogs and a whole lotta faith.

I can not wait to get to Charlottesville in November. Gonna get ugly, kids.

Yes, and those issues start at the top. I personally wouldn't want to be part of that situation.

So you're saying... there were actually more people at the UVA spring game?

Party Positive.

On paper, UVa recruits well. They get 4 and 5 star kids. On paper. Some of them pan out. Some of them fail miserably. Maybe its because the "system" and coaching at UVa. Maybe its because they are overrated to begin with. Maybe it's because their potential has been maxed out prior to them getting to college.

Personally, they can have all of the paper victories they want. OUr coaches and players will outwork them and it shows up on the scoreboard every November. Hey, the have to do something decent, right?!

May we all get what we want and never what we deserve.

4) Notice the young lady sitting disinterestedly to the right of the Hokies... If these were true Cavaliers, she would be oogling them longingly and unable to watch the game on the field.

That has to be the saddest realization for a fan. Your team sucks SO BAD that your biggest rival doesn't even waste the time to smack talk you.

On that same note, I can't wait for the game this year and the impending Decade of Dominance shirts that will be made. I have a shopping list.
