This is what makes them #LOLUVA. From what I have heard, the kid is a stud but offering him 5 years before he graduates? Sounds like the Hoos sure are a desperate bunch.

what does that make him this year? 8th grade? lol
Yep.
Taking a page out of the lane kiffin book
just what I was thinking. No matter, London will be gone by the time the kid graduates, much like Kiffen may get fired (to be picked up by some NFL team Im sure. Fall upwards faster!) if they lose anywhere close to as many games as they did last year
Based on the product they've put on the field the last decade, an 8th grader could probably challenge for the starting position next year.
O.M.G. This is fantastic!!!
This. Is. Awesome. Well in, Guitarman
I just choked on my Lucky Charms.
You win this entire weekend.
Both Les Miles and the almighty Saban did the same thing not too long ago.
holy crap, all the big time SEC schools have

Very true. But it's a little less funny when it's actually a good team making the offer.
Off topic here but I read this on one of the UVA fanboy sites responding to a Tech fan and I find it hilarious: "beginning of the end of Beamer era in Blacksburg.....u guys were good but not good enough.....all we can say is it was fun while it lasted...now step back and let London and company show u how to get it done in the next 3 years...good luck vs Best Western U"
Fun while it lasted? So they have enjoyed losing? I'm also curious what the "in the next 3 years" remark means - maybe they'll win some undisclosed thing or achieve some undisclosed goal?
Beamer's coaching career may be winding down, but what they fail to realize is that the heir apparent is Bud Foster, and that should just be flat-out terrifying for everyone not in Maroon and Orange.
Although I agree with you that Bud Foster is deserving of the next VTHC job, I don't think that's going to happen. I believe that Shane Beamer is in position to take over the HC duties when Daddy leaves. I would love to see Bud Foster be our HC just as much as (if not more than) the next guy but realistically I don't think that will happen :(
If not Bud, I vote for Chad Morris but that is a pipeline dream at this point.
Realistically, I agree with you, but I think that there's no question that (as long as he stays around) Bud is going to be the heart of the team. It's not hard to argue that he's just as much a reason for VT's success as Beamer.
I honestly don't know if Bud will be HC, but I don't even know if he really wants it. I think Bud is the kind of guy that loves defense, loves teaching young men to play hard-nosed football, and being a HC requires too much in the way of politics, schmoozing, etc. I doubt he'd like that at all. I hope that he is at least offered the position; it's his to decline. If he legitimately doesn't want it, then move on to the next candidate. We owe Bud at least that much respect.
AGREE
Exactly.
Every time I read some UVA hatemail, I automatically think it was written by someone as douchey as the Winklevoss twins.

LMAO! Their cockyness never ceases to amaze me. Such fools they are....
The sad thing is they are 110% serious and have absolutely no clue how absurd they sound. My coworkers sometimes ask me why I'm so hostile to UVA. I present exhibit A...
I know what you mean. My best friend is an LOLUVa fan. She talks so much shit. I just laugh at her. And I will definitely be laughing at her come Saturday when they are shutout by the Ducks
The real concern here is that your best friend is a UVA fan...
I had honestly considered questioning this myself but decided not to for some reason
She is not a real fan. She doesn't even watch their games or know when they are playing. It's cool guys...
Again. Exhibit B why I hate on UVA fans. I was talking to one back in the middle of summer and he didn't even know they were playing Oregon this year, let alone what week. On top of that he pronounced it OreGONE. GAH!!
Well, in fairness, if that was the product I had to watch I'd lose track of it, too.
One of the bridesmaids in my wedding used to help out with the UVA football team back when she was a student. Even then, she could care less about UVA football. She loves UVA soccer, but not football.
As in the words of Colin Cowherd ragging on UVA: *very snobbish tone* "I'd rather be a sophisticate than win football games"
meh, one of my best friends on the planet is diehard uva, and he can talk football with the best of them. my daughter was born at uva and i told him she was a little wahoo and he was like "lets not get crazy."
I don't know if they'll get shut out. But they'll definitely get shut up.
I suspect this is just another spelling mistake made by the TimeCop. DeSue is probably similar in spelling to a more accomplished high school athlete, to whom London planned on "formerly" offering a scholarship.
It's an absolute trav-a-sham-a-mockery that middle school kids can't be middle school kids anymore.
It also speaks volumes on how #LOLUVA does recruiting. This reeks of desperation. London realizes if he keeps pulling 4-5 stars, his job is going to be safe regardless of his W-L record. He can always say "Listen I know we went 4-8, but look at all of the 757 4-stars we're bringing in. We're going to be a dominant in three years."
But, he'll be a pretty good QB for Charlie Weis to work with.
Bring back the man in the mirror!
All the cool kids in the SEC are doing it so it must be legit
The only reason I could see doing something like this is that it gets the kid interested in your school at a young age. When I was in middle school, I didn't watch college football - just pro.
But London has no idea how an 8th-grader is going to grow. The kid could just be an early bloomer who stops blooming, for all he knows. I think it's just to build buzz with that kid, and amoungst his peers, which is sorta despicable if the kid plateaus and they never give him a real offer...
BOOM! Couldn't agree more.
I would assume this kid must be one impressive looking 8th grader. He may be a bust, but he could also become a huge 5-star prospect. Now, when the SEC schools come knocking on his door, London at least has some leverage to say "Hey, we wanted you years before these guys." It looks pretty desperate and reeks of inferiority to me.
I would almost be willing to put money on it that this kids head gets so big from being recruiting so young that he loses his work ethic and humbleness and just falls flat on his face by his Junior year in high school.
Could you imagine getting excited/thinking you have an offer to a BCS school in 8th grade? You start following the team, become a huge fan, and then, more than likely, don't get the offer... That's just brutal. And the kids are way too young to know when someone's blowing smoke up their ass. The whole process is pretty disgusting.
I did some digging around. The Hoo fans I've found on 247 and TheSabre are actually... really... excited... about... an 8th... grade... QB.
LOLUVA indeed.
He's enrolling 4 years early. It is said he can throw the ball past the line of scrimmage, immediately making him the best arm in Charlottesville since Matt Schaub.
Couldnt help myself
It's funny how NCAA never steps in to regulate something that actually should be regulated. In my opinion, offer letters should not be allowed to be sent until a kids 2nd or 3rd year. Keep kids mind on school until then.
I very much agree. I don't think they can send offer letters until high school, maybe even senior year. Someone with recruiting insight, please correct me if I'm wrong. I think contact prior to junior year is limited by the NCAA, but there's nothing stopping a coach from talking to a player to say, "Hey, we're interested in having you play for us," but there's no offer letter, no scholarship discussed, etc. All very shady.
The rule is that they can't formally (or formerly if you're Mike London) extend a written scholarship offer until August 1st of the prospects senior year.
Edit: Changed your to you're. I was in that post-lunch, full stomach, half-asleep state when originally writing this.
Let me start off by apologizing and saying I realize I might get downvoted for this, but "you're*". Have to keep it correct if you're going to make fun of it
Turkey leg for you now :)
The kid is really 17. He got his ID in Charlottesville

Ooops, they plead guilty.

uvgay....who cares.
The story failed to mention how London wants him to get a GED so he can start for UVA in 2014.
I bet Mike London found him while doing one of his D.A.R.E. seminars. You know, because he used to be a cop and all.
