I was listening to the ACC Football Coaches Spring Teleconference during lunch this afternoon and Frank Beamer said both Mark Leal and Brenden Motley were "nicked up". As most of you know, the QBs have been live during scrimmages as of late and obviously that can take its toll.
Additionally, Beamer said they hadn't decided on a format for the spring game, although a decision could be coming soon. Frank conveyed he really wants a game format, but they need enough healthy bodies to do so. Andrew Motuapuaka was another guy he mentioned as nicked up.

Let's just hope that "nicked up" is less severe than "banged up," which all too often leads to "broken."
Leal and Ford took some major shots on Saturday. It isn't a huge surprise that any of the three are banged up with them going live.
Might not be a bad idea to keep one or both of these guys in a red jersey for awhile. You can still see how they react to pressure without Dadi removing their heads from their shoulders.
I think they are nicked up because it is an actual battle for the spot. Both Qb's want to show what they can do and going "live" puts game like scenarios in front of them. So yeah dadi and company are going to sack you, hit you, whatever. But there also is a middle ground of you're my teammate it does us no good to rough you guys up.
I would be more worried if Frank said yeah QB's are unscathed couldn't be perfect. Granted I don't want to see a major injury but I also don't want to see the QB's just walking through drills like its a daisy field. They better get use to it because we don't have the best OL at the moment and its going to be a tough season.
Yup, exactly right. No guarantees that the "loser" of the QB battle won't be playing a major role at some point in the season. Just takes one blown assignment, the starter not sliding/running out of bounds, or a single cheap shot (*cough* Sun Bowl *cough*) and just like that your backup is in.
If the D is doing this to our own guys, can't wait to see what they do to the other team.
In my head it will involve some of this... wait for itttttt..... assumeee the position!!!!!!
I will be disappointed in our coaching staff if we don't go live for the Spring Game with the QB's. Getting nicked up is part of football. These guys need as many live reps as they can get because whoever our QB is will have only started one game against William and Mary before they take the field at night, on the road, in the Horseshoe.
Keeping the QB's "safe" isn't a valid argument in this case. We have Brewer and Durkin as a safety net in the case that a QB does go down.
If I were a QB in the race I would be knocking on Frank's office door this afternoon begging to go live. It shows that you welcome the challenge (aka have huge plums) and you want the experience of competing against one of the nation's best defenses.
Hurry up Saturday!
Pretty sure I passed Motley in a boot walking around campus today. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and just a precautionary measure.
Probably an ingrown toenail like AJ McCarron.
I've also heard a rumor that Andrew Ford may have suffered a concussion. But I guess it isn't true if Beamer didn't mention it in the teleconference.
Well, Frank also mentioned Motuapuaka was "Nicked Up" and he has a broken scapula. So the range of injury described by "nicked up" is pretty large.
I hope this doesn't equate to NY Jets preseason like story where the QB was seriously injured....
Once the games begin, players will have to play - nicked up or not - so I'm not at all concerned about that. It does provide a nice buffer for the staff to rotate QBs a lot with the ready explanation of 'he was nicked up so we rested him'.
So I'm confused - per Richmond Times - Leal and Motley both doubtful for the spring game.
Did they get run over by Marshawn Williams or something?
Edited: Sourced RTD instead of BR
I think we decided to use one of our TEs as a QB
So Andrew Ford is going to be all-time QB this weekend, right?
I'm sure we can move one of our Running Backs to QB - Joel Caleb?
Running back to QB? Are you crazy? Has to be a TE.
Bucky Hodges - not because he was a QB in high school, but because he is like 10'4" and can see over the line.
