Former Virginia Tech running back Michael Holmes will serve two years in prison after pleading no contest Monday to a charge that he conspired in an armed burglary at a Blacksburg apartment in November.
Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Bobby Turk sentenced Holmes, 20, of Staunton, to 10 years in prison with eight years suspended. After serving two years, Holmes will be placed on five years of supervised probation, Turk ordered.
I hope Mike realizes it's not how you start, but how you finish and gets his life together in jail.

This is a true tragedy for this young man, so much talent thrown away . Hope he can get his life together in prison & accomplish something positive with the rest of his life.

Fo sho. When he was kicked off the team he showed up at fork in the road. One way took him on a path to recovery through resiliencey, the other a path to destruction through self pity. It appears he chose the latter. Never let one thing define you as a man. Upon release he will find himself at another fork in the road...
I hope during that 2 yrs in prison he decides to hit the ground running and make something of himself. It's sad that a lot of people let this stuff define them and never get out from under it.

This sucks, especially with the circumstances of his original dismissal from the team. I hope that he can get out and get his life together, but the chips are stacked against him at this point.
