What is the likelihood that we could pick up these players on a transfer? Does anyone speculate that Buzz may try to pick them up?

Not likely. We need big men.

We have no scholarship spots. As it is we're one short for next year given the 3 signed seniors

5 years, 2 degrees, 33 football games as a student, and 2 Cassell court stormings later, I bleed Maroon and Orange

Burton is the more desirable of the two, but I think Buzz has his sights set on some higher quality bigs that would fit our bill better in the future. As someone mentioned, we're full on scholarships next year. Burton is a 3-4 type guy, but we have suitable guys coming in next year that would do as well for us.

Of course, everyone IS aware that both players would have to sit out until next January, and that Marquette can decide there are certain schools where they cannot transfer, right?

Dawson had really fallen out of favor with the new Marquette staff, because even last year as a bench/role player, he averaged about 10 mpg last season in about two thirds of their games played with a full roster and yet this season had only managed to get on the floor in one game with only 10 scholarship players available so it is not that surprising to see him decide to transfer. I do not anticipate Buzz showing much interest and I expect Dawson to end up at a mid-major where he might actully get playing time.

Deonte Burton I think is more of a case of someone who thought he would be starting this season only to see himself in the exact same role as he played last season for this team. He is getting about 16 mpg so far this season and his point contribution is down half a point from last season. I do not anticipate that Buzz will pursue Burton or entertain using a scholarship considering he would have to sit out at a key momentum year that is next season.

Neither of these players would likely start for this team two years from now and I would rather see Buzz focus on players that are a great fit for this roster moving forward.
