NFL network is reporting right now that Fuller ran an unofficial 4.4 forty and Exum ran a 4.5 forty.
Ha Ha Clinton Dix ran a 4.5
Exum with 17 reps on the bench and Fuller with 13 reps.
Clinton Dix only had 11 reps.
Looking good so far for the Hokie DB's!

1st run. Exum 4.51 - Fuller 4.40
2nd run. Exum 4.5 - Fuller 4.40
Unofficial but they are consistent
Looks like Kyle lost the bet the Corey. I'd have to imagine that Thanksgivings at the Fuller house are never boring.
I hope they have a running bet on whose son will start for the Hokies first!
Not so fast my friend....Corey ran an official 4.43...we still don't have Kyle's official time.
Yes, but I thought Kyle said he was trying to be his unofficial time of 4.37.
Yeah, I think he did say that. He still might beat Corey's official time however. Corey ran a 4.43 official I think.
I think Corey has him, but I have to say that I am impressed with Kyle's time for sure.
Good for him!
I'm impressed with Exum's numbers; I've always thought of him as an heir-apparent to Chancellor and a better fit at safety than DB.
4.5 and 17 reps show that he's great safety material; those numbers should get him drafted.
I'm not disagreeing that Exum showed well with those numbers, but I don't understand how numbers alone translate to him being great safety material.
The underlying assumption is that Exum is an excellent defensive back. The question is whether he's a Safety or a Corner... His testing #'s show that he is strong for a DB, but not especially fast. That's a talent set that fits better at Safety than it does at Cornerback.
Yeah, I understand if people think he's not shifty enough or doesn't have the technique. Darqueze Dennard of Michigan St is a highly rated CB in the 4.5 range though, and there are plenty of other examples (Joyner of FSU, Purifoy of UF) who are in the same range as CBs.
I really have to question the official clock regardless today. Just seems odd that so many of the corners are posting unusually higher 40 times than most were previously expected. The prediction was that there would be anywhere from 18-20 DB's under the 4.5 mark and Fuller was tied at 13th at 4.49. That combined with Clowney clocking a 4.53 yesterday really makes me wonder if something wasn't slightly off today.
The idea that these clocks are accurate to the hundredth of a second is pretty ludicrous anyway, so I wouldn't sweat it. The difference between 4.35 and 4.40 is so miniscule as to be irrlevant, and everyone acts like one guy is a burner and the other just average. My guess is it's all in the measurment noise anyhow.
That's true...recently got to see that with the winter Olympics in the Downhill Parallel Snowboard Slalom. .12 of a second lead seemed like they both started the same time.
He doesn't get of blocks well enough to be a ss and foster moved him out of being a fs because (if you read between the lines in his comments) he had issues calling coverages and keeping track of multiple routes. His time actually isn't terrible for a larger cb, but we'll see how it goes
Let's keep in mind, looking at his less-than-outstanding jumping numbers too, that the guy is a little over a year removed from annihilating his knee. The fact that he's even at the combine putting up competitive numbers is quite an accomplishment.
A year, right? Not a month...
Whoops, right you are. No idea where that came from.
Not especially fast is relative. Joe Haden is considered a true shut-down corner and he ran a 4.57 forty at the combine (he did better at UF's pro day). Richard Sherman ran a 4.54. People have been commenting how Exum still looks hampered by his injury, which was compounded by the recent ankle issue. By the time VT's pro day rolls around, he will have had more time to heal and should post a better time.
He is fortunate that he has the size and toughness to thrive in a system that emulates Seattle with bigger corners that challenge receivers closer to the line of scrimmage, which will be more and more popular to combat the passing offenses like Denver and New England. He just has to hope that a team sees past the extended recovery time and will give him time to get back to the level he playing at towards the end of the 2012 season.
Seattle is going to draft Fuller in the 1st and Exum later on in the plan to have an all hokie all pro secondary
That last part seems redundant to me...
Exum would make a great safety. Kyle a shutdown CB in the NFL.
exum was moved to cb for a reason
We needed corners is the main reason.
We didn't need corners when he got back from injury this year, yet he was still playing at the corner position...
That's because he was arguably our best cover corner at the end of last year, not to mention the coaching staff didn't want to have to rely on two true freshmen unless they absolutely had to, regardless of how talented they are.
Antone's original move to corner was not because we needed more corners. Maybe that's why he stayed there, but I doubt it. This article explains how Bonner and Exum were flip-flopped due to Exum's difficulties getting the secondary set up for plays. They wanted to put him in a position where he could play 1 on 1 with guys and not worrying about everything else, at the same time, Bonner seemed to have a better head for the game and therefore Torrian Gray though he might be a better fit at safety. It wasn't because we needed more corners.

... because you don't switch someone's position mid-season.
Also, looking at Exum's three starts:
... against Duke, Facyson was out and Kyle was hurt, so Exum and Kendall started at CB.
... against BC, Kyle was out and I think Facyson was hurt too.
... against Miami, Kyle started but left after two plays, so Exum, Kendall and Facyson rotated. (Then Exum got hurt again.)
Cuz why would you change a guy's position his last season of eligibility
For two players that just had major surgery, Kyle and Antone did great at the NFL combine. It makes me wonder what kinda records they would've set if they didnt have any setbacks.
Kyle can run faster than everyone even with his eyes closed.
Tone's face is also hilarious.
