Farewell to a Great Hokie!!

Many of you might not know this but longtime equipment manager Lester Karlin's last game was the Sun Bowl. He was a student equipment manger from 1971-1973 and then returned and has been working for the football team since 1978. He's been with the program since before Beamer became coach, and a once and lifetime person. I had the pleasure of working for him for 4 years and I can't believe he is retiring.

He will be missed!

Thanks Lester!!

No doubt a large part of Virginia Tech's success.
The winds of change are blowing.......

I wish I could apply for this job.

@AMB4VT

Why don't you. I would, but all I've got is a saddle, bridle, and some shoes.

Sounds like some of the girls I know- saddle, bridle and some shoes....

This is going to be great for the ACC.

He sounded like a very humble dude, every time he was on TTL. Best wishes to you in retirement, Mr. Karlin!

Lester was such a character that they are dividing his job into two separate jobs following his retirement. They will hire someone for football equipment manager and another for director of equipment (or whatever the title is, basically the guy that oversees the entire department.)

He will be missed in the athletic department, though I'm sure he will still be around the area.
