Had an official to Marshall on the 17th. Nebraska has been after him hard for the past month or two, but I'd still be shocked if he went anywhere other than VT.

I saw a few wks back on twitter somewhere where Minor may not even pass. He would most likely have to prep. But my best guess is hes a Hokie. And we would honor his scholarship if he had to prep just like we did with the other guys

lol true, but I think besides us Nebraska is the team to watch for I believe. I hope he passes tho and I hope he becomes a hokie. We could certainly use him at LB

Fo shizzle. We only have one LB so far in this years class. And he might end up at DE. Are there any other LB's we are looking at? I don't want to do what we did on OL recruiting for a few years...

Nah, he'll either be at VT (if he qualifies), Marshall (if he can't qualify to VT's standards) or FUMA/Hargrave. He won't go to Nebraska.
He's gotta be thinking about Cequan Jefferson and DJ Reid. Two guys in his shoes a year ago who couldn't pull it together a FUMA and were forced to scramble (CJ to Temple, DJR still TBD).

Thanks both of you...I was skeptical after what happened with Cequan Jefferson and his twitter account and the false reports coming out regarding that.
Also, I am emotionally scarred from the Drew Harris situation of last year...

I believe jefferson could have enrolled in may/june as well but he wanted to enroll earlier i believe that is why he went elsewhere. Not a 100 percent on that tho

Getting Raymon Minor or Jacorien Payton would help ease our minds I am sure.
We could use a few guys stepping up like the Van Dyke brothers...Motuapuaka, Chase Williams, Dahmon McKinnon, Deon Clarke, etc.
If they can elevate their game it will help alot.
Do we think there is any chance that Trey will flip sides at this point? I just don't see it happening at this late time, since he spent a full year at RB and is still recovering from a broken leg.

I have a solution to lb depth problems. We take Lebron James out of the Nba and give him a full ride to Vt as he has not yet attended college an then we start him at every Lb spot and add an extra 2 men to the defensive backfield

In all seriousness. Is there any doubt that he would instantly become the best TE in the NFL? Not talking about blocking here. Talkin Jimmy Graham routes all day long.

The first real NFL hit (see Kam Chancellor's hit on Vernon Davis) he took would be his last. He'd quit. Lebron is used to being the most athletically gifted person on the court but when the going gets tough he checks out. He would like the fact that the helmet would hide his receding hairline better than a headband.

Lebron is a physical specimen. And has shown so over the course of his NBA career. Prolly the most physically dominant player at this time. Lot of people do hate LeBron tho. But he would get up from a hit. And he would do quite well in the nfl at TE

Announcement: TBA
Minor Crystal Ball: Virginia Tech (80 percent)
Expert Picks
Adams: Marshall. "The question here is not Minor's interest in the Hokies, who have long been the clubhouse leader in his recruitment. if he can get in, he will attend Virginia Tech. As of now though that is very much in question."
Bartow: Virginia Tech. The Hokies have led for Minor for a while and it looks like they have opted to sign him. Shurburtt: Virginia Tech. "Things have changed during the last few days in terms of Minor and the Hokies and it's now all systems go toward a signing day announcement for his long-time favorite. I was told just an hour or so ago, it's 99.9 percent that he signs with the Hokies. I never put odds that high, but it looks like a safe pick."
Simmons: Virginia Tech. It looks like might work out between Minor and Virginia Tech. If a kid wants to be somewhere and the school wants him, those things usually have tendency to work out.
Wiltfong: Virginia Tech. Unless academics push him to Marshall.

I think it sounds more like we're going to take the risk that he qualifies and is accepted by Admissions and/or that we would be willing to wait on him to prep like Fisher and Reid had to.

He can't prep, he was "reclassified" as a junior a few years ago so he's had 5 years to get the prerequisite GPA and SAT score.
The scuttlebutt last night was that Minor was in because he's found out what his SAT score was from the 1/23 test. It sounds like it was sufficient to get into VT with his current GPA and he will commit to us. If he didn't have that test score, a commitment to VT would have resulted in him having to go JUCO. That's why Marshall came up late, they can take partial qualifiers and VT can't.

You don't go visit Marshall for fun, that's for sure.

Jay Payton, but I believe he might have issues qualifying as well. http://247sports.com/Player/Jacorien-Payton-32608

Reid qualified and will be enrolling in may/june
Thanks.
Confirmed on Reid?
Last I heard it was still up in the air...is this a recent development?
If so, great news for our stable of RB's!
Its confirmed sir. He was cleared by the clearinghouse and his gpa was where it needed to be. He will enroll when Holland fisher does around may/june
Do you have a source? Not doubting you, I just haven't seen anything about it and started looking. Unable to find anything.
sounds like doubt to me
Its been confirmed, no need to put a source on it
You say its been confirmed...by who?
By definition, if you don't have a source, then its not confirmed.
VT is not confirming it....DJ Reid has not confirmed it...The NCAA hasn't confirmed it.
(that I can find)
Some information may come from paid sites that user's can not link for reason's of website rules.
Ya what arnie said. I can assure you he was cleared and he will enroll in may/june like has been said. But that's all I can say on it
Thanks both of you...I was skeptical after what happened with Cequan Jefferson and his twitter account and the false reports coming out regarding that.

you are correct
The clearing house is one thing but there is also the matter of getting into VT. This is what got CJ.
Is anyone else as worried as I am about the serious lack of LB depth and recruits we have?
I am really hoping we have a surprise or two on signing day for more LB. Or else we might actually need to move Edmunds over.
Getting Raymon Minor or Jacorien Payton would help ease our minds I am sure.

theres no chance trey flips. hes invested 2 years at RB if you count his redshirt year
not even in light of Justin Hamilton's career and how that played out?
No. Zero chance.
I need an "Edmunds Linebacker" buzzword mute button.
What if we moved him to TE?
He would break records!
Yes, I am equally concerned about the lack of LB recruits!
I have a solution to lb depth problems. We take Lebron James out of the Nba and give him a full ride to Vt as he has not yet attended college an then we start him at every Lb spot and add an extra 2 men to the defensive backfield
Lebron would make a better kicker. He already has the flop downpat.
Clearly he would be a TE...
In all seriousness. Is there any doubt that he would instantly become the best TE in the NFL? Not talking about blocking here. Talkin Jimmy Graham routes all day long.

Our QB depth is looking good, we don't need any TE recruits.

From last night's 247sports Signing Day Expert Predictions (sure-to-go-wrong-but-hopefully-not-in-this-case):
Raymon Minor, ATH, Richmond (Va.) Benedictine
So does this mean VT has accepted him in terms of academics?
Based on the vague explanations, that seems to be what they are implying...but who knows...
I think it sounds more like we're going to take the risk that he qualifies and is accepted by Admissions and/or that we would be willing to wait on him to prep like Fisher and Reid had to.
