This sucks for the acc
So with Bridgewater and Strong gone, is Louisville back to being on like par with Maryland now? One gone, insert the other?
We'll, at least they'll have UVA to compete with.
I'm thinking they forced Mack out in the wrong year.
To me this doesn't seem like the juggernaut hire that we all thought might happen.
Dunno.
Probably a formality here unless the Louisville AD can sway him back:
Just saw that as well.
How long before he has to win he Red River? Two years, tops?
Given the Texas alumni and booster reputation, I'd say that's about right.
Helps out our chances with Isaiah Ford and Tyler Murphy if true.
i kinda miss the days before twitter.
Here's the latest from ESPN which provides a nice summary of the situation: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10240886/charlie-strong-l....
Strong has a staff meeting set for 9:00 AM this morning. We'll know what he's doing pretty soon.
These tweets are from Eric Crawford a sports columnist for WDRB in Louisville.
Let's hope he's using the Texas job to leverage a raise from Louisville. That program appears from the outside to know how to develop a team, hires good people, gives them control of their situation, and supports them. They're one of the most profitable programs in the country and one of the top revenue generators in all of college sports. They have a great basketball program and a very-good-and-still-rising football program with a huge corporate donor (The Papa). Strong should stay there as it is a better situation and he's already a very popular figure there.
Having said all that, I could see him leaving. It's Texas.
Told ya.
I was kinda hoping it would be Art Briles instead.
Can't say it's too surprising. But it looks like I'm not the only one who is qualifying how supportive his athletic department is at Louisville.
Good article on Strong and what he'll face at UT. They picked him because he's a winner and a good recruiter, exactly what it takes to get back to being the best football team in Texas.
so if Strong turns around UT and gets them back to their winning ways in, lets say, 2 years (generous I know) how long will you give Jerry Jones to poach him for the Boys?
Welcome to Hokie Nation Isaiah Ford
What would this mean for 2014 WR Isaiah Ford? He's a Louisville commit but took a VT official in October and there have been rumors of him switching on signing day. If Strong really does leave, Ford could be some good news for us to come out of the situation.
Plus we'd have a fantastic Ford-to-Ford pass-catch combo for 3+years. Built Ford Tough indeed.

"Texas is likely to announce Sunday that Louisville's Charlie Strong will be the new coach of the Longhorns, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad."

Their D-Line Coach will likely stay on
The plot thickens...
Interesting, but not surprising. No way Texas would want the headache of dealing with a show-cause penalty for a DC.
